Fetty Wap may have gone up against some heavy hitters during his run in The Boombox Battle, but the New Jersey rapper has come out on top in the end. The RGF head honcho is the latest artist to be inducted into The Boombox Battle Hall of Fame — proving that a great song can get you to the top no matter how long you’ve been in the hip-hop game.
Hailing from Paterson, N.J., Fetty Wap’s ‘Trap Queen’ has been blowing up on the internet in many ways. With over 4 million listens on Soundcloud and more than 2.2 million views of the track’s video, the song has put Fetty on everyone’s radar and even landed him a deal with Lyor Cohen’s 300 Entertainment.
The mid-tempo tune showcases Fetty’s sing-song rapping approach and his songwriting skills, which feature him loving his girl, money and the bando.
“I’m like, ‘Hey, what’s up, hello’ / Seen yo pretty ass soon as you came in that door / I just wanna chill, got a sack for us to roll / Married to the money, introduced her to my stove / Showed her how to whip it, now she remixin’ for low / She my trap queen, let her hit the bando / We be countin’ up, watch how far them bands go,” he delivers on the first verse.
The rhymer started off the battle competition by going against Fabolous, who at the time was on his own successful and undefeated run. But even though ‘Lituation’ was popular for a number of weeks, Fetty Wap’s ‘Trap Queen’ won over the fans and took almost 88 percent of the votes that week. Fetty then beat out J. Cole, Dipset and finally Lil Wayne.
Fetty Wap joins Chris Brown, Tinashe, Michael Jackson, Trey Songz, Lil Durk and T-Pain in The Boombox Battle Hall of Fame.
