Pharrell Williams Honored With Wax Statue at Madame Tussauds in New York
2014 was a very “Happy” year for Pharell Williams, but due to being on the wrong end of a lawsuit over his Robin Thicke collaboration, “Blurred Lines,” the artist has been off to a dismal 2015. While that may have put a damper on his hot streak, a bright spot occurred today (April 1) when he was honored in the form of a wax statue at Madame Tussauds in New York City.
“So our Pharrell figure that we just launched today features… our artists have replicated the famous look from the 2014 Grammy Awards, hich features the signature look of the mountain hat, which was donated by Vivienne Westwood. He’s also wearing the red leather jacket that he performed in at the Grammy’s. And he has jewelry featured that was designed by Damien Hirst,” stated Bret Pidgeon, TO Regional General Manager in charge of Madame Tussauds New York City and Washington D.C. locations.
There are few things as big as getting a wax statue made in your likeness, especially when it’s displayed at Madame Tussauds. Any run-of-the-mill artist doesn’t get that privilege and it’s usually reserved for entertainers of the highest caliber, which Pharrell is certainly regarded as in the world of hip-hop. Other artists that have are featured in the New York location are Alicia Keys and even the late, great Notorious B.I.G. Rihanna has been lucky enough to receive more than one wax figure.
If you’re ever in the New York City area and feel like taking a selfie with the man who made some of your favorite jams, you know exactly where to go to make that happen.

'Straight Outta Compton' Trailer and Movie Posters Released [VIDEO]
We are about four months away until the release of the most anticipated movie of the summer (at least for rap fans) hits theaters. The theatrical trailer for the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton has arrived and it gives us a preview of what we should expect from the film.
Actors Jason Mitchell (as Easy-E), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (as Ice Cube), Corey Hawkins (as Dr. Dre), Aldis Hodge (as MC Ren) and Neil Brown Jr. (as DJ Yella) all convincingly look and portray the World’s Most Dangerous Group to a tee. If you need further proof, just look at the character posters of the individual members, which were also released as well.
In the trailer, we see N.W.A deal with police harassment and poverty in their Compton neighborhood. From there, we get several glimpses of the iconic group’s rise to stardom behind the backdrop of the L.A. Riots.
Veteran actor Paul Giamatti plays the role of Jerry Heller, who managed N.W.A. and Eazy-E from the beginning of their careers. He tries to stop the police, who are obviously not fond of their music, from arresting the group in the clip.
“You cannot come down here and arrest my clients because of what they look like,” he yells, as the authorities handcuff them without probable cause.
Directed by F. Gary Gray, Straight Outta Compton arrives in theaters on Aug. 14. Watch the theatrical trailer above.

ILOVEMAKONNEN Quenches Your Thirst With 'Drink More Water 5′ Mixtape
2014 was a heck of a year for Atlanta rapper ILOVEMAKONNEN. He struck pay-dirt when his club-ready single, “Tuesday,” got a huge co-sign from Drake, who remixed the buzzworthy record, earning the pair a Grammy nomination. This essentially put the former hairdresser on the map. Now he’s looking to follow-up on that success with his latest release, Drink More Water 5.
Running 11 tracks deep, the project features appearances from Migos, Rich the Kid, Rome Fortune and Fredo Santana, among others. The tape also includes previously released songs such as the title track and “Super Clean” as well as new bangers “Whip It (Remix),” “No Ma’am,” and “Dodging 12 (Remix).” Staying in tune with the vibe that made him a radio favorite, Makonnen crafts a project full of catchy songs that are sonically pleasing to the ear.
While this tape should keep the OVO signee in the conversation and on various music playlists, Drink More Water 5 is only the appetizer. Makonnen says his album is on the way and should be released in summer 2015.
The “Don’t Sell Molly No More” rapper recently announced his upcoming Loudest of the Loud tour, which will feature a stateside run, as well as stops in Europe. The tour kicks off at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on April 28 and will include stops in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C.; Chicago and California, among other cities. So be sure to grab a ticket if he’s in your town.

Tyra Launches L.A. Gear Liquid Gold L.A. Lights Collection
Following in the footsteps of Kanye West and Fabolous, Tyga is moving forward in the sneaker game with a new footwear line from L.A. Gear. The Compton rhymer recently launched the Liquid Gold L.A. Lights collection.
The sneaker is a remix of the L.A. Lights silhouette, which were popular back in the 1980s. The limited-edition shoe is outfitted in a solid metallic gold upper with black accents and a black outsole. The sneaker is also decorated with lights in the heel. The L.A. Gear branding is featured prominently on the tongue as well.
On Tuesday (March 31), Tyga held a sneaker release event at Shiekh Shoes in Los Angeles. Hundreds of fans and celebrities, including Christina Milian and Karrueche Tran, attended the event to show their support. The “40 Mill” rapper signed shoe boxes and took pictures with people who stood in line for hours.
This isn’t Tyga’s first foray into the sneaker world. In 2013, the rapper teamed up with Reebok and launched the T-Raww collection, which was a line of skate-inspired kicks.

10 Rappers & Singers Promoting Unexpected Products
Janelle Monae Flexes on 'Yoga' Featuring Jidenna
Janelle Monae‘s stock continues to rise with each show-stealing performance and new music she creates. The multi-talented artist’s record label and collective, Wondaland, just partnered up with Epic Records and she gets the ball rolling with her new song, “Yoga.”
Monae impresses with her crisp vocals and energy and owns the track from the start. By the time you get to the song’s infectious bridge, “I wanna last, wanna last forever / I wanna dance, dance, dance, all night” and the chorus encouraging the ladies to “bend over / Let your booty do that yoga,” you’re hooked, line and sinker.
The drum-heavy production is accentuated with claps and oodles of bass to spare and is equally perfect for the club or a beach party. The record features Wondaland artist Jidenna, a rapper out of New York’s East Flatbush, Brooklyn area. He’s an integral part in the ever-growing Swank sub-genre, which is an uptempo and funky take on hip-hop that is guaranteed to make you sweat out your new hairdo while cutting a rug.
“I said yoga, she dish that yoga / Looking for my loafers, then I woke up in a Toga,” Jidenna rhymes, enhancing the song.
After signing a distribution deal with Epic Records, the Wondaland team has been hard at work, debuting their premier release last month: Jidenna’s single, “Classic Man,” featuring label mate Roman GianArthur.
“The collective talent of the Wondaland artists is awe-inspiring,” says L.A. Ried, chairman of Epic Records. “I haven’t personally witnessed a collective that sounds and looks this special in quite a while. I’ve been a longtime supporter and friend of Janelle and it is an honor to now work with her as a visionary businesswoman who brings an all-star group of talented performers to the table.”
“I’m so thrilled to share Wondaland Records with the world. Each artist under Wondaland Records has unparalleled talent, incredible vision, and brings something unique to the music industry,” Janelle states. “Together, we’re creating a new movement and space for the future of music and pop culture. I’m honored to be partnering with Epic Records and my friend LA Reid to present such extraordinary talent.”
The Wondaland Records roster includes Jidenna, Roman GianArthur, Isis Valentino of St. Beauty, Nate Wonder and Chuck Lightning of Deep Cotton, among others. Wondaland’s debut project will be a compilation showcasing the label’s unique array of talent and is slated to be released in May.

50 Cent Throws Shade at Diddy and His Sexuality
50 Cent has no chill when it comes to Diddy.
On Tuesday (March 31), the G-Unit boss man shut down an Instagram follower that tried to come at him, suggesting he take part in a sexual act with French Montana. The rapper, who wasn’t interested in entertaining the subject, defended himself by using Diddy as a reference.
“You should f— French Montana,” the follower posted in a comment under an Instagram photo on Fif’s account. The image shows the Before I Self Destruct creator knuckling up. Fif responded to the fan with: “What the f— you say nothing n—- I aint with all that crazy s— what the f— you think I’m Puffy.”
50 has been throwing shade at Diddy for quite some time now, so this is nothing new. Just last week, Fif took aim at the REVOLT TV head honcho when he posted a photo of his new EFFEN vodka on Instagram with the hashtag “#nopuffyjuice.” The image has since been deleted.
The picture below, though it features a different caption, was used in the initial diss. When Bad Boy rapper French Montana caught wind of the words, he took his own shots at Diddy.
The Instagram post put up by French, which has also been deleted, featured 50’s GQ magazine cover. Fif is shown wearing a sleeveless shirt with wind blowing around him. The “Don’t Panic” rhymer put the caption, “Stop!!!! Legendary!!” to accompany the image.
This caused 50 to upload a picture featuring French and Diddy lying next to one another with the caption, “What in the #EFFENVODKA world is going on in this picture man. SOMETHINGS [sic] not right.”
Can’t we all just get along? If 50 has anything to say about it, apparently not.
