Iggy Azalea Preps 'The Great Escape Tour, Responds to Critics

Iggy AzaleaLarry Busacca, Getty Images

Iggy Azalea is having a phenomenal year so far. From her chart-topping single ‘Fancy’ to winning Favorite Rap Album at the American Music Awards to her four Grammy nominations, the Aussie rhymer is probably beaming right now. But she’s not done yet. Azalea is planning to continue her reign well into the new year.

On Wednesday (Dec. 10), ‘The New Classic’ creator took to Twitter and announced her first arena tour will be called The Great Escape and hinted at it being the title of her second album.

“Also my tour is called ‘The Great Escape Tour’ and this name is somewhat relatable to what ill be naming Album2,” she wrote.

While venues and dates have yet to be announced, the ‘Problem’ rapper did reveal that pop crooner Nick Jonas will go with her on tour.

Despite this bit of good news, Azalea has been the subject of scrutiny lately from her comments about USC protesters at her show being “trolls” to her lack of validity in the industry. However, she is not letting that stop her from continuing to climb to the top.

Azalea reminded fans of her relentless spirit when she tweeted:

Before she embarks on her tour next year, Iggy Azalea will close out 2014 performing on ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest’ special on ABC.

T-Pain Exchanges Depression For Happiness in 'Keep On ' Video

Rapper-producer T-Pain still makes you root for him like he’s an underdog. But whether you root for him or not, he’s completely happy and content. That’s the concept behind the video for his new EDM-inspired track, ‘Keep On.’

The clip follows the Florida native to various cities around the globe as he performs, make TV appearances and rides on his tour bus. The video starts with breathtaking footage of the beach during sunset and from there director Sam King uses multiple shots, making the video move at an extremely frantic pace.

Considering the song is a over six minutes long, there’s a lot to take in and the visuals give you a sense of how hectic the rappa-turnt-sanga’s life really is.

The visual also shows old footage from when T-Pain cut off his dreadlocks, which runs throughout, and it could be seen as symbolism for the 29-year-old artist going through a mid-career metamorphosis.

Clearly, the song is upbeat and extremely happy, which is good to hear since the RCA artist has admitted to suffering from depression.

‘Keep On’ will presumably be on T-Pain’s next album ‘Stoicville,’ which should be out in 2015.

Nike Air Flight Huarache 'Trash Talk'

Kinetics

Even if you’re not an expert in talking trash, a time-honored tradition on the basketball court, this latest Nike Air Flight Huarache release pays tribute to those on-court insults in a very fitting and graphic way.

There’s nothing bad to say about the new Nike Air Flight Huarache, which originally premiered in 1992 and was worn by NBA greats like Reggie Miller and Scottie Pippen. The shoe boasts a black upper covered in tonal taunts all over it. The glossy words are met with golden accents and finished by an embroidered “5x’s” on the heel. This sneaker is truly something to look at.

Even though the Nike Air Flight Huarache “Trash Talk” is meant to get in your head, don’t let it throw you off of your sneaker game. Look for this Quickstrike to drop on Dec. 18 at select Nike accounts for $120.

Jazmine Sullivan Gets Sexy on 'Mascara'

Jazmine Sullivan is clearly back in the music game. After releasing her previous song, ‘Dumb,’ earlier this year, she’s just released another new tune called ‘Mascara.’

With a slow and smooth R&B melody and a light beat, Sullivan sounds sultry and lures you with her vocals. However, the song might think she’s trying to get you with her feminine wiles. It’s more than that. The R&B singer talks about being a strong, independent woman who should be able to do what she wants — from enjoying a strings-attached time between the sheets from time to time to dressing a little sexier.

“Don’t I deserve to be privileged? / Don’t I deserve to get the very best? / Because it ain’t easy being this fine all the time / Cause, if it was, then we all could do it,” she sings.

‘Mascara’ is the latest single off her upcoming album, ‘Reality Show,’ which is due out next year.

MF DOOM x Clarks Originals Wallabee 'Knicks'

End

Rapper MF DOOM has been hard at work these days making sure that his fans around the world have shoes to keep them comfy while plotting global domination. He has teamed up with Clarks Originals to release his second collaboration of the Wallabee shoe and this time he pays tribute to the New York Knicks.

The simple suede shoe is decked out in navy blue with orange laces criss-crossing in the two eyelets around the ankle. This pair packs a few surprises, including 3M stitching and a bright outsole, which has a glow in the dark element to it.

The mask etched on the ankle lets you know that these shoes are fully official and approved by DOOM himself. Expect to see them at select retailers, including U.K.’s End Clothing on Dec 12. Now if we can just get that MF DOOM and Ghostface Killah collaborative album to drop, the cypher would be complete.

NasKimberly White, Getty Images

If you haven’t seen the Nas documentary, ‘Time Is Illmatic,’ you don’t have to search high and low for it, because it will air on the cable network Showtime this Friday (Dec 12).

The documentary focuses on the making of the Queensbridge rapper’s classic 1994 album ‘Illmatic’ and the life that Nas lived prior to its release. Furthermore, it’ll show the making of the album along with accompanying interviews by the producers behind the project.

The legendary rapper himself also gives candid details about what inspired him to create such timeless cuts like ‘New York State of Mind’ and ‘One Love.’

“When I made ‘Illmatic,’ I was trying to make the perfect album,” he said. “It comes from them days of ‘Wildstyle.’ I was trying to make you experience my life. I wanted you to look at hip-hop differently. I wanted you to feel that hip-hop was changing and becoming something more real.”

“I gave you what the streets felt like, what it sounded like, tasted like, smelt like, all in that album,” he continued. “I tried to capture it like no one else could.”

The Nas documentary, ‘Time Is Illmatic,’ will premiere on Showtime at 9PM ET on Dec. 12.

Jay Z Visits New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to Discuss Criminal Justice Reform

Jay ZTheo Wargo, Getty Images

You may not have seen Jay Z marching with the Eric Garner protesters, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t doing his part to help make a change. On Wednesday (Dec. 10), Hov met with New York’s Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to discuss changing the criminal justice system, among other issues.

Specifically, Jay and Cuomo discussed hiring special prosecutors to handle cases where officers are accused of police brutality, and according to the rapper, the governor fully agreed.

According to Billboard, Cuomo will try to get these changes passed next year, along with trying to carry out other modifications to the current system.

But Jay Z wasn’t the only rap mogul to speak to the governor.

According to the New York Times, Russell Simmons also paid Cuomo a visit to discuss the same issues and he said the meeting was a successful one. But that will obviously be proven if there are substantial changes to the criminal justice system in 2015.

This is not the first time that Mr. Carter and Uncle Russ involved themselves with social issues. Jay Z and his wife, Beyonce, paid tuition for Sean Bell’s children, the Brooklyn man who was gunned down by police officers in 2006. The rap mogul also gave money to help out the Mike Brown protest movement in Ferguson, Mo.

By the looks of it, it seems that Jay Z isn’t just an amazing lyricist, he’s a pretty good guy for using his dollars to initiate change.

J. Cole Performs 'Be Free' on 'The Late Show with David Letterman'

Unless you haven’t noticed, it looks like J. Cole has fully embraced his artistic and conscious side. The Roc Nation rhymer stopped by ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’ on Wednesday (Dec. 10) to perform ‘Be Free,’ a song that he released earlier this year.

In light of the current social unrest that’s been happening across the United States due to the Michael Brown, Tamir Rice and Eric Garner cases, Cole decided not to perform a song off his new album ’2014 Forest Hills Drive.’ Instead, the North Carolina native wanted to send a heartfelt message to the grieving families and the whole country.

Sporting all black and backed by a lone keyboardist, Cole sung and rapped passionately about the plight of black people in the United States, particularly young black men. He enunciated every word fully — making sure everyone heard the song’s message and feel its impact. The performance couldn’t have been any more timely.

At the end, David Letterman seemed touched and took the time to express how much he loved the song. He also thanked Cole for coming on.

With all of the rap songs out there that do everything except talk about the issues, it’s nice to have a rapper who isn’t afraid to put the promotion of his new album on the back burner to address current issues. So Cole should definitely be applauded for his selflessness.

Meanwhile, Cole’s LP, ’2014 Forest Hills Drive,’ is projected to sell over 300,000 copies in its first week of release. That’s quite an impressive feat considering there was no advance promotion or single for the album.

And here’s another feat for the talented spitter: ’2014 Forest Hills Drive’ is slated to become the first rap album to sale over 200,000 units in one week, beating out other major artists like Rick Ross.

Ludacris Blasts Gossipers on 'In My Life' Featuring John Legend

Ludacris In My LifeDef Jam Since making his mark as an actor in Hollywood, it’s easy to forget that Ludacris is a veteran rapper with an unique ability to spit thought-provoking rhymes. On his new single ‘In My Life,’ featuring John Legend, Luda is still funny and provocative at the same time.

Right off the bat, the Atlanta rhymer speaks on the many rumors that’s been following him in the last few years and he does it with incredible wit and style.

“I used to care so much what people thought about me, now I really could give a f— / Not when I own over $15 million in real estate and bought all the ‘Fast and Furious’ trucks / See everyday I put in work and my salary grows, so excuse me if I ain’t caught up in reality shows,” he spits.

As usual, Luda’s loud booming voice cuts straight through the track, which consists of wailing horns and faint keys.

Piano man Legend, who sings the hook, adds his deep raspy vocals, which is bound to increase the chances of the song getting heavy radio airplay.

It’s been a while since we heard from the Disturbing Tha Peace boss, and ‘In My Life’ is a pretty strong reintroduction. The track will be featured on his forthcoming EP ‘Burning Bridges,’ which arrives in stores on Dec. 16.
