Nike Lunar Force 1 High '14 'White'

Ubiq

A new year always signifies a clean slate and if you want to live out that mantra through fashion, there’s no better way than with a fresh pair of “white on whites.” In 2015, feel free to update your references with the Nike‘s lunarized version of the classic kick.

The Nike Lunar Force 1 High maintains the feel of its predecessor by holding onto the white leather base, but the rest of the sneaker gets a few swift upgrades. A meshed-out tongue is tucked away under the laces while a cushy lunar midsole is sandwiched between an ice-blue outsole and white leather upper. A strap slung over the sneaker’s ankle lays like a crown on a model that is truly fit for a king.

These are as fresh and clean as they come. And with a $120 price tag, they won’t break the bank. Look for them today at select retailers including Ubiq.

Mariah Carey Announces Las Vegas Residency

Michael Loccisano, Getty Images

Mariah Carey just got a lot richer and her fans are much happier since she announced her own Las Vegas residency.

According to TMZ, Mimi will be taking over for Celine Dion as the artist in residence at the Colosseum inside Caesars Palace. Dion will take a sabbatical to care for her sick husband and will return no later than early 2016.

At one time, only older singers and performers were associated with Las Vegas residencies, but the tides have changed and younger, more contemporary artist like CeeLo Green have been performing nightly gigs in Sin City.

A few years ago, Kanye West turned down a $4.5 million offer to perform in Las Vegas for a total of nine days.

As far as the money Carey will make, she easily stands to pull in at least $500,000 a show, considering Britney Spears makes $475,000 each times she performs. The R&B diva’s hardcore fans will obviously flock to see her perform — the set will consist of 18 of Mariah’s No. 1 hits. Hitting the stage is nothing new, but she’s still a bit nervous.

“This is a special event for me,” she stated on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show.’ “And again, I have to hope that the fans will enjoy this cause I’m gonna be performing, which was kind of inspired by my album No. 1′s, and this is now the updated version with 18 of them. Hopefully, other people will enjoy this. I’ve never done this before.”

Dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

Common and John Legend's 'Glory' Receives 2015 Oscar Nomination

Common John LegendHandout, Getty Images

It’s only been a few days since Common and John Legend received the Golden Globe for their duet, ‘Glory,’ for the civil rights film, ‘Selma.’ And now it looks like they’ve just gotten another honor — an Oscar nomination.

Announced earlier this morning (Jan. 15), ‘Glory’ has been nominated in the Best Original Song category, which means that John and Common will also be performing it during the live telecast on Feb. 22. And if it had the same emotion and power as Common’s acceptance speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday night (Jan. 11), which will mostly happen, it’s definitely not one to miss.

The other nominees in the Best Original Song category include ‘Everything is Awesome’ from ‘The LEGO Movie,’Grateful’ from ‘Beyond the Lights,’ ‘I’m Not Gonna Miss You’ from ‘Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me and ‘Lost Stars’ from ‘Begin Again.’

And while the country commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday on Monday (Jan. 19), the two artists found the nomination announcement to be a great way to celebrate his birthday, which is actually today. They expressed their feelings about the Oscar nod via Twitter earlier this morning.

The 87th Academy Awards will air on Feb. 22 at 7PM EST on ABC.

Lupe Fiasco Quits Twitter: 'I Never Really Liked Dealing With the Public'

One of rap’s most outspoken and controversial tweeters is leaving the game. After social media rants against Kid Cudi and support for Iggy Azalea, Lupe Fiasco has announced that he’s quitting Twitter and focusing his efforts on something else.

On Tuesday, Lupe revealed he’s done with addressing the public directly, citing that he never really liked doing so in the first place. “These are my last few days addressing the public directly. Im not tired. I could carry on for years. I just really want to do something else,” he tweeted. “I never really liked dealing with the public. My recording career thus far put me in a place where i had to for promotion etc… Now that my contract is over and I have other things that I’d rather be doing I get to make the decision to go back to the shadows.”

For his last message to fans, he basically left them hanging. “So that’s that. And for my last tweet…,” the rapper wrote. It seems that Lupe’s 1.29 million followers will have to wait until his new album, ‘Tetsuo & Youth,’ drops on Jan. 20 to hear him drop some jewels.
