2015 Grammy Awards Red Carpet

The most anticipated night in music went down at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday (Feb. 8). But besides the excitement surrounding the winners, another important aspect of the ceremony was what each artist wore on the red carpet.

Each year, fashion enthusiasts keep their eyes glued to their TV screens to check out what their favorite artists wore to the main event. Just take a look down memory lane to Nicki Minaj’s tribute to Catholicism and her alter-ego Roman Zolanski in 2012.

The 2015 red carpet was no different. Ciara chose a black chiffon gown while Jennifer Hudson opted for a hip-hugging ivory number. A fresh-off the runway design was suitable for Rihanna while some of hip-hop and R&B’s hottest couples sizzled in front of the camera. Take a look at the 2015 Grammy Awards Red Carpet.

Sam Smith Wins Song of the Year and Record of the Year at 2015 Grammy Awards

Sam SmithKevork Djansezian, Getty Images

It looks like Sam Smith is this year’s Adele. The soul crooner took home four Grammys, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the awards ceremony Sunday night (Feb. 8).

He didn’t win the highly coveted trophy for Album of the Year, but he was more than excited to receive his final two awards, which were earned for his song ‘Stay With Me.’ The dominance isn’t the only thing that links Smith and Adele. Both of their albums come from heartbreak.

“I wanna say thank you so much to the man I fell in love with last year,” Smith said. “Thank you for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys.”

He also earned the top honor for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album for his lauded effort ‘In the Lonely Hour.’

Heartbreak win Grammys and Grammys cause album sales to spike. So congrats to Smith for his big wins.

Common and John Legend Perform 'Glory' at 2015 Grammy Awards [VIDEO]

Music’s biggest night closed with one of hip-hop’s most relevant and moving songs. Common and John Legend brought social issues to the forefront with their track, ‘Glory,’ featured in the lauded film ‘Selma.’

The duo performed the poignant number after Beyonce’s rendition of ‘Precious Lord, Take My Hand’ (also from the film ‘Selma’). Dapper in their suits, Common took the mic while John handled the keys.

‘Glory’ has enjoyed much critical success as of late. Earlier this year, the track took home the award for Best Original Song at the 2015 Golden Globes. Common, who also stars in the movie ‘Selma,’ said this during his acceptance speech: “As I got to know the people of the Civil Rights Movement I realized I am the hopeful black woman who was denied her right to vote,” Common said. “I am the caring white supporter killed on the front lines of freedom. I am the unarmed black kid who maybe needed a hand, but instead was given a bullet. I am the two fallen police officers murdered in the line of duty. ‘Selma’ has awakened my humanity.”

Beyonce Takes Us to Church With 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord' at 2015 Grammy Awards [VIDEO]

Beyonce never disappoints onstage and her performance at the 2015 Grammy Awards Sunday night (Feb. 8) was no exception. The superstar delivered a stirring rendition of ‘Take My Hand, Precious Lord’ and took us all to church in the process.

The chanteuse looked absolutely angelic in a white gown and sheer cape, surrounded by men in white suits. The emotional performance of the song, heard most recently on the ‘Selma’ soundtrack, had the singer in tears and emoting with her hands. She was feeling it.

The set was not without controversy. Ledisi actually sang the original version of the song in ‘Selma’ and many fans felt that the singer was snubbed in favor of Beyonce. In the movie, Ledisi portrays legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson and sings the spiritual song to Martin Luther King, Jr.

Ledisi apparently had “no clue” why she was replaced and told Entertainment Tonight, “I will say and what I’m excited about is that I had the pleasure of playing an iconic figure in ‘Selma,’ and the song, ‘Take My Hand, Precious Lord,’ it’s been going on forever — starting with the queen Mahalia [Jackson], the queen of soul Aretha Franklin.”

Usher Honors Stevie Wonder With 'If It's Magic' at 2015 Grammy Awards [VIDEO]

R&B superstar Usher honored soul icon Stevie Wonder at the 2015 Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 8). The singer performed a special rendition of Wonder’s classic song ‘If It’s Magic’ from his ‘Songs in the Key Life’ album.

Last year, Wonder celebrated the album with a tour, in which he played the effort in its entirety. Backed by a harp, Usher stayed true to the original song and performed the lyrics eloquently.

Behind the crooner was a huge screen that projected trees, picturesque mountains, red-burning clouds and various happy children during the performance. As a surprise to the crowd, a svelte Stevie Wonder suddenly appeared onstage next to Usher playing a melody on his golden harmonica.

Honestly, Wonder deserves more than a one-song salute at the Grammy Awards.

Thankfully, the producers fixed that. On Feb. 16, CBS will air ‘Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life — An All-Star GRAMMY Salute’ at 9PM ET. The two-hour special will feature performances from Janelle Monáe, Ed Sheeran, Usher, Ariana Grande and many more.

Pharrell Delivers Futuristic Performance of 'Happy' at 2015 Grammy Awards [VIDEO]

Pharrell Williams took his ubiquitous anthem ‘Happy’ to outer space with a futuristic performance at the 2015 Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 8).

Looking like a spaced-out bellboy, the ‘G I R L’ creator led a team of dancers to help him sing and groove to the joyous song. The performance included a gospel choir, fraternity steppers and violinists, as they gleefully sang along to the upbeat lyrics.

After he concluded his performance, Pharrell clasped his hands in prayer and said, “Thank you God, I apologize for not mentioning you earlier, but as you can see, I’m at your service Lord.”

The hitmaker’s performance garnered some mixed reactions online. Some couldn’t figure out what was happening onstage, while others noticed the dancers wearing hoodies and holding up their hands in a “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” stance.

Aside from his Grammy performance, Pharrell walked away with three golden gramophones as well. He won for Best Urban Contemporary Album for his 2014 effort, ‘G I R L,’ and Best Solo Pop Performance and Best Music Video for ‘Happy.’

Congrats to Skateboard P on his Grammy performance and his three wins. We know he’s a very ‘Happy’ guy tonight.

It really wasn’t that long ago when Pharrell Williams was known as one of hip-hop’s most respected producers. Now he’s that and a pop superstar. His Grammy wins confirm what his fans already know about him.

‘Happy’ was basically a pop culture sensation last year. So it makes sense the chart-topping track earned Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Music Video.

Pharrell took the stage to accept the award for Best Pop Solo Performance during the ceremony, but his famous hat didn’t make an appearance. As a result, we were only left with schoolboy shorts and an acceptance speech.

“I’m not gonna make this awkward… and long,” the rapper began. “I was so prepared for everybody else that is so talented in that category to walk away with that award. This is super awkward, and, um, I’m gonna moonwalk my way off the stage right now.”

We didn’t get to see that happen, but Pharrell did give us a moment we’ll be talking about tomorrow. It’s his reaction to Taylor Swift’s awkward dancing below.

Sam Smith Wins Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album at 2015 Grammy Awards [VIDEO]

Sam Smith had quite the ascent over the past few months. He had that ‘Saturday Night Live‘ performance, two songs that hit Billboard‘s Top 10 in the country and a debut album that went platinum. Now, he’s also a Grammy winner.

Smith beat Iggy Azalea for Best New Artist. The British artist was as humble as ever as he gave his short acceptance speech. The crooner’s voice broke slightly as he finished his words. “I’ve won a Grammy!” he said, dedicating it to his mother and father.

He later beat Katy Perry and Coldplay for Best Pop Vocal Album with ‘In the Lonely Hour.’ He was less emotional, but no less candid during this speech. “It was only when I decided to be myself when the music started to flow,” Smith said, reminiscing on his early career failures.

The British singer recently released a touching video to his song ‘Lay Me Down.”

Ariana Grande Performs 'Just a Little Bit of Your Heart' at 2015 Grammy Awards

Pop superstar Ariana Grande performed ‘Just a Little Bit of Your Heart at the 2015 Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 8).

After a brief introduction by ‘In the Woods’ actress Anna Kendrick, who saluted the songbird’s “powerful voice,” Grande emerged under a cloud of smoke, as she stood on a pedestal in a gorgeous purple gown. Backed by a 10-piece orchestra and a pianist, the pint-sized songbird let her voice do all of work as she serenaded the audience with the ballad.

You can tell she was a little nervous — there was no way Big Sean could jump onstage and calm her nerves — but the 21-year-old chanteuse was able to showcase her vocal skills and hit the high notes just right.

Grande’s understated performance will certainly be among the highlights of the night.

Kanye West Performs 'Only One' at 2015 Grammy Awards [VIDEO]

The 2015 Grammy Awards are upon us and one of the most anticipated performances tonight is the return of Kanye West to the stage. After much speculation and rumors, the producer-rapper ended his six-year hiatus from the awards ceremony by performing his very personal track ‘Only One.’

Surrounded by mostly darkness, Kanye sang the tender ode to his late mother, Donda West, intermittently stepping into a beam of light in the center of the stage. The fashion forward MC wore what appeared to be a red velvet sweatsuit, long black T-shirt and used the platform to show off his brand new Adidas Yeezy 3 sneakers.

This is just one of two performances for Ye on music’s biggest night. He’s expected to take the stage later on with the Beatles’ Paul McCartney and Rihanna for ‘FourFiveSeconds.‘ Earlier in the night, Kanye and wife Kim Kardashian took to the red carpet to show off their fashion sense and PDA, in a public kiss.

Iggy Azalea Is Most Excited to Be Nominated for Best New Artist at 2015 Grammy Awards

Iggy Azalea radiated on the red carpet at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, wearing a royal blue Armani Prive gown with sheer panels Sunday (Feb. 8). While her skin was glowing thanks to make-up artist Priscilla Ono, she was also glowing on account of her four Grammy nominations: Best New Artist, Best Rap Album, Best Album Artwork and Record of the Year for ‘Fancy’ with Charli XCX.

Her 2014 summer anthem ‘Fancy’ catapulted her to stardom and paved the way for her Grammy debut, but out of the four awards she could potentially win, Iggy is most excited for the Best New Artist category. Why? “Because it’s my debut album and you can only be nominated for it once,” Iggy told E! News’ Ryan Seacrest.

Up against British newcomers Sam Smith and Bastille, sisterly trio Haim and Brandy Clarke, Iggy lost the bid to the ‘In the Lonely Hour’ singer. Which other categories do you think Iggy will win at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards? Let us know in the comments below.

Eminem's 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2′ Wins Best Rap Album at 2015 Grammy Awards

The amount of vitriol Iggy Azalea suffered over the past few months basically made this year’s Best Rap Album category at the Grammy Awards ‘The New Classic’ vs. Everybody Else. The latter took home the prize — Eminem to be specific.

The rapper’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2′ took the coveted trophy, making this the his sixth win in the category. His most recent solo project earned the most acclaim since his return from a mid-2000s hiatus. When released in November of 2013, ‘MM LP2′ pushed units like all of Eminem’s solo albums. After selling over 792,000 copies in its first week, the album quickly went platinum.

Eminem also won Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for ‘The Monster’ featuring Rihanna. Like their prior single, ‘Love the Way You Lie,’ ‘The Monster’ climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Kanye West Listens to Aspiring Rapper Freestyle for Him [VIDEO]

What would you do if you had an impromptu meeting with Kanye West? Kick a freestyle! That’s what a budding rapper did when he ran into Yeezy outside of the House of Blues venue in Los Angeles Saturday (Feb. 7).

TMZ was right there when Cameron Grey begged West to give him a shot to spit a couple of bars for him. The ‘Bound 2’ rapper obliged him, while his guy pal, Justin Bieber, stood by and watched.

Grey performed a decent freestyle and then a written version for the rapper-producer. The verdict? It wasn’t bad and he does have some potential.

Impressed by the Grey’s enthusiasm, West asked if he was willing to start from the bottom. “I’m down to start anything. I just wanna learn,” he said, before adding that he just graduated from college.

We don’t know if West found his next rap superstar, but impromptu auditions like this is how Big Sean got signed to G.O.O.D. Music.

The adidas Originals Metro Attitude, adidas Originals ZX Flux and adidas Originals Superstar are all given the special effect and it is truly a thing to behold. Bobby Shmurda Talks Jail, Stabbing Rumors, Criminal Case in Billboard Interview

Bobby ShmurdaYouTube

Embattled rapper Bobby Shmurda remains behind bars after his $2 million bail package was withdrawn. Despite that setback, the Brooklyn rhymer was able to give a jailhouse interview to Billboard.

In his first interview since his Dec. 17 arrest, Shmurda describes his time in jail as “survival of the fittest” and that he was “thugging it out.” Nevertheless, he denied reports that he was stabbed during a fight inside. “It’s nothing but rumors, man. I’m good. Everybody knows I’m good,” he said. “I’m chillin’.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the ‘Hot N—-’ rhymer gave an update on the status of his bail package. He also accuses the DA of being bias and hating on him because of his success.

Read a few excerpts below:

Your mother and your lawyer are working hard to get you out on bail. Are you hopeful about that?

Uhhh…We’re trying, but right now I think the DA and the judge and everyone in the court is being biased. It’s so crazy. The favoritism, yeah. They don’t have no evidence, no nothing on me for the bill to be so high. I haven’t been out for a year, I haven’t been around for a year. So I didn’t make two million dollars! [Laughs] They gave me a bill they know I can’t pay. We can pay the 10 percent. And we tried to pay the 10 percent and they told us collateral. And every time we go for bail, it’s something new.

Your last hearing was Jan. 29. What were you thinking in court?

When I see the judge and the DA, I just see a bunch of people [who are] trying to take my life away for being blessed. That’s what I look at when I look at them. It looks like a bunch of haters.

Do you have a message for your fans?

Yeah. Keep your head up. Everybody goes through tough times and good times. You know what, tough times don’t last forever. I say, God makes his toughest battles for his strongest soldiers.

Hip-Hop Experts Share Memories of Ghostface Killah's 'Supreme Clientele'

Favorite Memory Involving 'Supreme Clientele'

"'Supreme Clientele' is actually one of my personal top 5 favorite albums of all time. Every time I mention this album being better than 'Ironman,' I get backlash. Whatever. This album is almost flawless and a complete listenable and enjoyable body of work.

I remember purchasing my first copy of this album like it was yesterday. I was in college and I had just heard 'One' on the radio. Yes, I actually heard it on the radio. The 'Apollo Kids' video was already on TV, and the beat was stupid, so the anticipation for this album release in my mind was unbearable at this point.

The Sam Goody up at Michigan State would run these one-hour Monday midnight releases for the albums that were coming out that Tuesday. 'Supreme Clientele' was on the list. I was definitely there. I bought my copy. I put it in my Sony Discman. As soon as 'Nutmeg' came on, I stopped walking and laid in the snow. The rest was history."

Favorite Song(s) on the Album and Why:

"My favorite song on the album has always been 'Nutmeg' (produced by Black Moes-Art), followed closely by 'Mighty Healthy'(produced by JuJu from Beatnuts) and 'One' (produced by Mathematics).'Nutmeg' just changed the whole way I look at repetitive beats. As soon as that sample started I was locked in. It set me up for the rest of the album. 'Mighty Healthy' was just the type of raw s--- that I love. From the lyrics to the beat, everything fell into place nicely. '…rap Derek Jeter…' As far as 'One,' I'm a melody-driven producer and I loved the bassline melody of the sample. I used to recite every lyric on this song and not know what the hell Ghost was talking about. He said '…lay my balls on ice, the branches in my weed be the vein…,' lmao."

Favorite Beat(s) on the Album and Why:

My favorite beats on the album would be between, again, 'Nutmeg' and 'Stroke of Death.' They both are just filled with the grit and rawness that I love. Also, they both have this repetition that I just can't get enough of. Emcees should love beats with repetition, it really helps them shine more. '…slalf hash Indian…,' lol."

What Makes the Album a Classic:

"What doesn't make this album a classic? In 2000, this album surpassed everything to me. Including the Intro, outro and skits; 'Supreme Clientele' is 21 joints, one better than the next that you don't have to skip through. The lyrics and deliveries are on point, from Ghost and Rae, to guest features like Method Man, Redman and Solomon Childs. The beats are just dumb. That's good dumb. Such a great choice of samples and drum combos and the arrangement of the album couldn't have been better (even though it doesn't match the tracklisting on the back). To me, it's a classic because if I had to take five albums on a deserted island, this would be one of them. Simple."

5. Favorite Verse on the Album and Why:

"I never thought that I would ever say this in public, but my favorite verse on 'Supreme Clientele' is probably RZA's verse on 'Stroke of Death.' Man, although I'm a huge fan of RZA on the beats, I've never really been a fan of him on the mic. Sheeeiiit, he went in on this joint though. '…Tony Montana flow, creamy white havana Joes…'"

Song From the Album You Wish You Had Produced and Why:

"The joint on this album that I wish I produced would probably have to be 'Apollo Kids.' It's just a great joint with great progression, and it had such a BIG feel to it. The sample was done perfectly. You couldn't tell me shit if I made that joint, lol."

Birdman Denied Entry at Nicki Minaj's Pre-Grammy Party [VIDEO]

Life of a CEO is not all glamorous and fun. Case in point: Cash Money Records honcho Birdman and his very huge entourage was denied entry into Nicki Minaj’s pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles early Sunday (Feb. 8).

TMZ was there to capture on camera as the Cash Money CEO — in a very colorful dress shirt — tried to walk through the front doors before he got stopped by security. Apparently, Birdman showed up a little too late at 1:45AM just when the venue was about to shutter its doors at 2AM.

If you listen closely, you can hear the doorman apologetically tell Birdman and his entourage that the club is closed. Also, we faintly hear someone say that Minaj didn’t want him inside the venue.

This is interesting since Minaj is an artist on Young Money and Lil Wayne is currently suing Birdman for $81 million. At least we now know where Queen Barbz’s loyalty lie within Weezy and Baby’s legal battle.

Eventually, cops were called and they swarmed in and told Birdman and his posse to leave the premise immediately.

D'Angelo Gives Triumphant Performance at Apollo Theater [VIDEOS]

After a 15-year hiatus, it’s safe to say that D’Angelo is officially back — and he’s better than ever. The R&B crooner performed at the historic Apollo Theater in New York on Saturday (Feb. 7) in support of his latest release, ‘Black Messiah.’

The night’s performance had two significance for the 40-year-old piano man. For one, it was the place that a then-16-year-old Michael Archer got his first taste of performing in front of crowd and where he won Amateur Night in 1991. Second, D’Angelo was performing on his late friend J Dilla’s birthday.

Back by the Vanguard, his 10-piece ensemble that featured virtuoso bassist Pino Palladino and ex-Time guitarist Jesse Johnson, D’Angelo performed a three-hour set of unbridled soul and funk. According to Billboard, the singer was a masterful bandleader, as he performed his classic tunes — three from ‘Brown Sugar’ and five from ‘Voodoo’ — as well as new songs from ‘Black Messiah.’

D was at home on the Apollo stage turning each of his songs into 10-minute jam sessions. The sold-out crowd sang along to ‘Brown Sugar’ and during a rousing performance of ‘Chicken Grease,’ the entire venue felt like a church revival was taking place.

While performing ‘Back to the Future (Part 1),’ D’Angelo sang to the crowd, “So if you’re wondering about the shape I’m in / I hope it ain’t my abdomen that you’re referring to,” while patting his noticeable large belly.

D’Angelo ended his show with an encore of his sumptuous ballad ‘Untitled,’ a fan-favorite from his ‘Voodoo’ album. In an unique move, each band member walked off the stage one by one while they played until it’s just only D at the piano. Essentially, picking up where he left off nearly 15 years ago — with just him playing the ivories.

On Feb. 11, D’Angelo will officially kick off his Second Coming tour in Europe. The trek starts Feb. 11 in Zurich, Switzerland and ends on March 7 in Brussels, Belgium.

Welcome back, D’Angelo.
