T.I. Comes to Car Accident Victim's Aid in Los Angeles (@tip)

T.I. has had a very busy week in Los Angeles. Just two days ago he and LA native Game confronted police and club security after mutual friends were beaten by security guards and denied entry into LA's Supperclub.

Yesterday, T.I. came to the rescue of a woman who had just been in a nasty car accident. The ATL rapper told TMZ that he was in Inglewood, on his way to Popeye's to get a bite to eat when he witnessed a bad car accident that left an SUV laying on its side.

He hopped out of his car and ran over to find a woman in distress, at least until she got a good look at him and said "Is that T.I.?"

Tip stayed with the woman until the ambulance came, during which the woman relayed to him that she was even more embarrassed because she wasn't wearing underwear, to which he smiled and said "Don't worry, we won't look."

Once the ambulance took over, he went on his way, but decided to find another Popeye's because the one nearby "had too much going on."

The woman is reportedly doing fine.

T.I. Questioned Over Club Brawl, Calls Cameraman a Snitch (@Tip)

T.I didn't have much to say to the paparazzi about the tense standoff he and Game had with police after their bodyguards got into a huge brawl with club security at Supperclub in LA Wednesday.

Wednesday's brawl was settled (somewhat) peacefully and no charges were filed.

This or That? Future vs. Odd Future

What happens in a music industry where people are more occupied with images than sounds? In 2014, it feels like social media and advertising resonate louder than any sound waves. We know what Miley Cyrus’ tongue looks like without knowing the words to any of her songs. We see Rihanna’s nipples and froth at the mouth without asking for her next album. We all tune in to watch the Grammys, knowing damn well that as soon as they’re over we’ll read and write about how irrelevant they are. America the beautiful.

Future and Odd Future are at polar ends of the spectrum. The first is a withdrawn studio rat, known for guarded interviews and intergalactic warbling. The second is the strongest youth movement of the past five years, built more on attitude than substance. They have their similarities – both acts are brutally honest (pun intended), never choosing to sell out, and Future has even approached OF’s level of grotesque absurdity on wax (“I know my dope raw, I seen it come out her ass / I wipe that shit off, and throw it right in the bag,” he rhymes on ‘Mark McGwire’). But in the larger picture, Future and Odd Future are two different beasts meant for seemingly different markets.

Future is the ultimate pop star, a rapper known most for his hooks and inflammable songwriting capabilities. He can switch from growling about the pain of selling drugs to tenderly murmuring about winning a trophy wife at the press of a button, but he’s far from robotic. His appeal lies not in what he says, but how he gargles it. You can hear the pain in his voice. At the end of his latest album ‘Honest,’ he screams, “I gave my blood, sweat, tears / You couldn’t have known what I did for this,” and on paper it looks so simple it’s stupefying, but when you hear him belt it out, it shoots right to your chest. Whether it’s the cadences of songs like ‘Karate Chop’ and ‘Shit,’ the accent of ‘Tony Montana,’ or the blunt repetition of ‘Same Damn Time’ and ‘Racks,’ one thing is certain – that s–t is kinda catchy.

Odd Future doesn’t give a f–k about catchy. Tyler the Creator takes pride in his chord progressions, and Earl Sweatshirt in his vexed rhyme schemes. They’d love to be on the radio, but not by means of sacrificing what got them to where they are today – an uncompromising expression of self. Part of why the squad is so fertile is because it’s so multifaceted – Frank Ocean is one of the most loved R&B stars of today, The Internet sound nothing like MellowHype, and even Sacramento punk rockers like Trash Talk have signed to Odd Future’s record label. The only collective f–k they seem to give is about not giving one.

Both acts actually started popping in 2011 – Future with ‘Racks’ and OF with Tyler’s ‘Yonkers’ video where he infamously “eats” a cockroach. Can you remember much about ‘Yonkers’ besides the detail above (and maybe the drums)? Can you remember anything at all about ‘Racks’ besides Future’s delirious hook? See what I mean about image and music?

It’s not to knock the Cali kids, but they’ve built their platform on being outrageous. They revamped the modern hip-hop show and brought moshing back. Tyler recently incited a riot at SXSW and has attracted such fervent crowds on the West Coast that concerts have been shut down. The collective was even banned form New Zealand for being “a potential threat to public order and public interest.” In Tyler’s eyes, he’s made Eminem proud – he sounds astonishingly similar to Mathers on certain parts of his latest album, ‘Wolf,’ and their manager, Chris Clancy, came up under Paul Rosenberg.

Future doesn’t really have a father to his style – call him Atlanta’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Perhaps the best comparison would be to Bob Dylan, who had a terrible voice and a knack for songwriting, enough to make him one of America’s most beloved musicians. Future prides himself on innovation – he’s gone on record to say that biters motivate him to try new things in the studio. He’s outrageous too, but not on Twitter or Instagram. The way he manipulates his own voice, whether it’s through Auto-tune or his own vocal chords, has sowed seeds in the music of Rich Homie Quan, Wiz Khalifa, and countless others.

And yet, as popular as Future seems to be, he’d probably kill to have the loyalty of Odd Future’s fan base. They sell out shows, design overly expensive merchandise, and say pretty much anything they want without fear of reprimand. Future almost got kicked off of Drake’s tour for downplaying ‘Nothing Was The Same.’ Even while Future was on stage with Andre 3000 at Coachella, the Outkast member shouted out Tyler, and the very next weekend, Pharrell brought his admirer onstage.

It’s tough to say whose attention each act commands – you’d never hear Odd Future in the club, and there probably aren’t too many Future enthusiasts that tune into Odd Future’s Adult Swim show. Yet they still have a kinship. At their core, both camps just want to be themselves. They’re very childlike (think Future’s chorus on ‘I Won’ and the behavior of the majority of the OF crew at all times), belying a desire to communicate that pre-maturity through their music. Despite what poptimists might think, children have a good ear for simple melodies and fun tunes without any pretentiousness or loaded biases of preference. Critics and fans alike are worried about getting it right and seeming smart and all this s–t that has little to do with simply putting on the music and enjoying it. Future and Odd Future make music that invites that experience. Despite your tastes, it’s something to be grateful for.

Chance the Rapper Ponders Loneliness on 'I Am Very Very Lonely'

Chance The RapperJohnny Nunez, Getty Images

Apparently, while Chance the Rapper is recuperating from the flu and tonsillitis, he had time to record a new song. The slow rap burner ‘I Am Very Very Lonely’ features the Chicago MC singing about just that: being lonely.

Over the 3-minute song, Chance details his lonesome activities including smoking, taking selfies, feeding his fishes and fixing the dishwasher, among other things.

“It’s just me and la cucaracha tonight / Cold pizza with the hot Sriracha tonight / Apple TV, Comcast, don’t know what to watch-a tonight / Shoulda had ya when I had ya, now I wish I gotcha tonight,” he raps.

It looks like Chance is on the mend, so there’s a possibility that he will be able to resume his touring duties later this week.

Take a listen to what Chance the Rapper does when he’s all by his lonesome below.

Ra Diggs' Lyrics at Center of New York Murder Trial

Ra DiggsYouTube

Lyrics from New York rapper Ra Diggs are at the center of a murder trial that has started in Brooklyn.

According to ABC News, the government and Diggs’ defense attorneys are debating whether his songs should be submitted as evidence in the case. In February 2012, Riggs was indicted for three brutal murders, one of which dates back to 2001.

Ra Diggs (real name Ronald Herron), who is reportedly a Waka Flocka associate, has several songs like ‘Live by the Gun, Die by the Gun,’ containing violent lyrics.

The government has accused the rapper of being the city’s highest-ranking Blood member and his songs detail various homicides he committed. The defense, however, believes that Diggs’ lyrics are protected under free speech and inadmissible.

Both sides are awaiting a ruling on whether a dozen of Diggs’ videos and songs can be submitted as evidence.

Diggs has a long criminal record that started in his teenage years, according to prosecutors. The 32-year-old is reportedly a reputed leader of a Bloods gang that sold crack cocaine out of the Brooklyn housing projects.

Diggs’ defense attorneys argued that music and videos are fictional works of art being expressed by the rapper’s views on the hardships of his life.

However, the government contends that the rapper built a criminal enterprise through violence and then highlighted those activities in his songs. Admitting that he’s a gangster in his music doesn’t “inoculate him against their use against him in trial,” prosecutors have stated.

For now, Ra Diggs will have to remain silent. When he asked the judge if he could give his own opening statement, he was denied.

Suge Knight Still Thinks Tupac Shakur Is Alive [VIDEO]

Suge Knight is talking about the death of Tupac again in a rambling one minute video released by TMZ.

This time, the 6-foot, 2-inch former CEO of Death Row Records suggests Diddy killed Tupac. He’s mad at the fact that the Bad Boy founder gets so much love and acceptance from the mainstream media.

“You’ll have 90 motherf—ers walk down the street and say Suge Knight killed Tupac, when everybody knows off the top I ain’t the n—- who killed Tupac. I’m the n—- protected Tupac,” explained Knight. “But at the same time bitch ass Puffy, [people] can give him a motherf—ng [Hollywood] star, and every writer in the world said he’s the one who killed Tupac or had him shot.”

Knight also alludes to the fact that the legendary West Coast rapper is still alive, since people have admitted to shooting him, but nobody has been arrested yet.

“Why do you think nobody’s been arrested if they said they’re the one who killed Tupac?” Knight questioned. “Because Tupac’s not dead, n—-. If he was dead they would have arrested those dudes for murder. You know he’s somewhere smoking a Cuban cigar.”

Well, those are some interesting words to digest. Of course, if he was alive, we’d want that new album ASAP.

Meek Mill Loses Civil Lawsuit Against Philadelphia Police

Meek MillRich Diamond, Getty Images

Meek Mill’s dreams to win his civil rights case against the Philadelphia police department has been deferred. On Thursday (May 1), an eight-member panel, of mostly white jurors, ruled that police didn’t violate Mill’s civil rights.

The Maybach Music Group artist wasn’t pleased with the jury’s verdict and left hastily out of the courtroom, according to Philly.com.

“I quit,” he said. “I quit everything… except for music.”

Mill, born Robert Williams, believed his civil rights were violated after he was pulled over by police in October 2012 without just cause. The Philly rapper was on his way to pick up friends to board a jet to Atlanta to celebrate the release of his debut album ‘Dreams & Nightmares’ when he as pulled over by police. However, Mill feels he was racially profiled and harassed when he didn’t allow officers to search his vehicle.

As a result of the “traffic stop,” Mill and his passengers in his Range Rover were arrested and detained for about 10 hours. Despite being in custody for that period of time, none of them were ever charged.

Although the jury voted in favor of the police, in an open letter to the judge, they believed that both parties were at fault over the encounter.

“Although we voted unanimously that Mr. Williams’ Fourth Amendment rights were not violated, we feel strongly both the plaintiff and defendant were in the wrong and made mistakes,” the letter stated.

“They ain’t from where I’m from,” Mill said of the jurors. “I don’t really expect them to understand.”

Meanwhile, Amanda Shoffel, a deputy city solicitor, believes the city nor its officers owed Mill anything.

“Any reasonable officer faced with those circumstances would have conducted an investigation,” she said. “Any officer would have done the same thing.”

Supperclub LA Releases Statement on Game and T.I.'s Standoff With LAPD

T.I./GameTMZ

Earlier this week, T.I. and Game were involved in a heated standoff with the Los Angeles Police Department, after the two rappers believed a member of their entourage was beaten up by the boys in blue.

Supperclub Los Angeles, the venue where the melee went down, has released a statement regarding the incident, addressing the seriousness of the matter.

“The events that happened in the parking lot behind Supperclub Los Angeles in the early hours of Wednesday morning are severely disheartening, leaving our company and organization frustrated, and our Hollywood neighbors saddened,” said the owners of the popular venue.

The statement also reveals the whole skirmish could have been avoided if the person who didn’t was denied entry into the club would have handled it differently. The owners also blame a third person security guard who took matters into his own hands.

“An unfortunate escalation between an angry on-looker who was denied entry to Supperclub, and a rogue security officer who took matters too far, led to an untenable altercation which represented the worst in all of us,” the statement reads.

In addition, the Supperclub addresses the fact that T.I. and Game had nothing to do with things escalating.

“Although T.I. and The Game were in the parking lot during this time, they were not directly involved with this incident,” read the statement. “The third party security company that was hired for this outside promotional event, is not a part of Supperclub Los Angeles, and will never be booked by Supperclub, or the venue’s outside promotional vendors again.

As of now, there hasn’t been an official response from T.I. or the Game after the statement was released.

Jennifer Lopez is on Cloud 9 on 'First Love'

Jennifer Lopez First LoveCapitol Records

After releasing the playful song ‘I Luh Ya Papi,’ Jennifer Lopez is on Cloud 9 on ‘First Love.’ The song is an uptempo ballad similar to those we’ve grown to love from the multi-talented singer.

Produced by hitmaker Max Martin, the song features a electro-pop beat, whining synths and other percussive sounds.

In the first verse, J.Lo thanks her guy for giving her so much love. “And I wasn’t looking for someone new / Til you came down / Giving me the best time I’ve ever had,” she sings.

She then adds on the chorus, “I wish you were my first love / ‘Cause if you were first, baby / There wouldn’t have been no second, third or fourth love.”

Giving the superstar’s public love life, the lyrics could be directed to her current beau Casper Smart. The two have been together for several years and it looks like their relationship is still going strong.

Lopez recently shared a reaction to her song being played on radio for the first time with her fans via her YouTube page.

‘First Love’ will appear on Jennifer Lopez’s next album, which is still untitled. The collection is due this summer.

Jay Z, Beyonce Sued by California Prisoner for Stealing Songs

Beyonce Jay ZChristopher Polk, Getty Images

If you’re a big celebrity, being in the public eye can bring a lot of ridiculous things your way. This looks like the case for Beyonce and Jay Z today. The power couple is being sued by a prisoner for $2 billion for allegedly stealing song lyrics while he’s been behind bars.

Richard Dupree, who’s currently locked up in California State Prison, Corcoran, has filed a lawsuit against Bey and Jay, Chris Brown, Kanye West and Rihanna in district court on April 21. According to Dupree, Jay and Bey have been working with the CIA, FBI and Homeland Security to spy on him and his songwriting, and Chris, Kanye and Rihanna are in it as co-conspirators. Dupree claims that they stole 3,000 of his songs.

Not only does he want $2 billion, but Dupree also wants immediate release from jail.

As crazy as this entire story sounds, Jay Z is no stranger to lawsuits. In March, the rapper, along with Damon Dash and Universal Music Group, were ordered to present documentation and depositionsregarding the Roc-A Fella logo. The case stems from July 2012, when Dwayne Walker, a New York City designer and creator of the Roc-A-Fella logo in 1995, filed a lawsuit against the hip-hop mogul that includes breach of contract and copyright infringement.

Will V. Stiviano Do "Revenge Adult Film" With Black Porn Stars?

Since the leak of the infamous audio of Clippers owner Donald Sterling berating African-Americans to his then girlfriend V. Stiviano, she's become a bit of an overnight celebrity. On the audio, Sterling can be heard saying Stiviano could have sex with a black man if she wanted to, and now she has the chance to do it for profit. Adult film executive Steve Hirsch (the force behind Mimi & Nikko's recent sex tape) has offered the controversial mistress the chance to extend her time in the spotlight by starring in a sex tape with "the most well-endowed black men in the porn industry."

The catch? She only has 24 hours to make a decision.

The Roots Debut 'When the People Cheer' Claymation Lyric Video

Just because The Roots are on TV every night, it doesn’t mean they’re too busy to still make great music, which is evident on their new song and the accompanying lyric video ‘When The People Cheer.’

The cut features longtime group affiliate Greg Porn, who’s had some very impressive verses on the last few Roots albums. This time he hits just as hard with his usual style of introspection mixed with fly-talk.

“Am I a douchebag or just another durag / Trying to get ahead on some brand new wave s— / For your entertainment money is the language / So every time I speak I try to make another payment,” he raps.

Joe Baughman, the video director for ‘When The People Cheer’ lyric video, went with claymation for the visuals. The camera follows a character walking around a factory as the song’s lyrics flash onscreen.

And speaking of lyrics, what would a Roots song be without the mighty Black Thought, the group’s lead vocalist, because he’s always known to deliver some of the best and most underrated verses to date, and he surely doesn’t disappoint this go around.

“I’m a sex addictive introvert sucker for a pencil skirt / Looking for a shorty coming from work that I can pervert / On my existential grind doing consequential dirt / Searching for physical pleasure if I don’t go mental first,” he rhymes.

The mid-tempo tune is the next single off The Roots’ next album, ‘And Then You Shoot Your Cousin,’ which is set for release May 19 through Def Jam Records. If the single is any indication of the album’s direction, fans will have an incredibly dope album to rock to this summer.

Justin Timberlake Featured on Michael Jackson's 'Love Never Felt So Good'

With Michael Jackson‘s posthumous album, ‘Xscape,’ releasing on May 13, the highly-anticipated first single, ‘Love Never Felt So Good,’ arrives featuring a very special guest.

Justin Timberlake, who’s featured on the track, tweeted the news of the song to his 32 million followers with the hashtag #PLAYITLOUD.

Originally written by Paul Anka and Kathy Wakefield in 1983, the track clearly has that old pop ’80s vibe that we remember from MJ. JT’s scatting and ad-libbing are all over the intro and mid-tempo drumbeats are featured throughout the song. These additions sound like something the ‘Mirrors’ singer would release today while still giving a ‘Rock With You’ effect. The King of Pop takes on the first verse while Justin holds down the second.

“Cause baby, every time I love you / In and out of my life, in out baby / Tell me, if you really love me / It’s in and out my life in out baby / So baby, yes, love never felt so good,” Michael sings on the chorus.

Bringing together MJ and JT on this track not only makes one great union but also shows how pop voices from the past and present can join forces and make something that everyone can love.

If you’re a purist and want to hear the original version with Justin Timberlake, listen below.

Rihanna Dons Gothic Look at 2014 iHeartRadio Music Awards, Wins Artist of the Year

RihannaJason Merritt, Getty Images

Rihanna continued to surprise with her wardrobe choice at the 2014 iHeartRadio Music Awards last night (May 1). The ‘Pour It Up’ singer brought goth to the red carpet.

She donned a floor-length, black, backless lace number that showed practically every part of her body (except the skivvies she wore underneath). Rihanna also rocked a green lipsitck and had her hair in knots. To add more edge to her look, she wore a leather motorcycle jacket (worn over her shoulders only of course) to tie everything together. While we know her to take risks on the red carpet, this was definitely a look that was not only experimental but actually looked pretty good on her.

Fashion aside, Rihanna walked away a big winner at the first annual award show. Not only was she named Artist of the Year and won Song of the Year for ‘Stay,’ she also earned the Best Fan Army nod — an award that honors an artist’s fan base. Rihanna’s Navy beat out Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters, Ariana Grande’s Arianators, Taylor Swift’s Swifties, Austin Mahone’s Mahomies and Demi Lovato’s Lovatics. Plus she snagged the title of Hip-Hop/R&B Song of the Year for ‘Pour It Up.’

“It’s not easy what we do,” she says as she accepted the Fans Army award. “It’s very difficult at times. It’s a lot of pressure to be a lot of things. And I’ve never felt comfortable being anything other than myself, and I just thank my fans for being supportive and embracing that.”

Funny man Marlon Wayans has never been one to hold back, and in our recent interview with the comedy star he shared some pretty personal details from his past relationships, namely those with his sister's dolls.

When asked about having sex with inanimate objects, as he's done on film a time or two, Marlon says that some women may as well be inanimate objects in bed, and that he also used to hump his sister's dolls as a kid. While Barbie was a bit too slim for him, cabbage patch dolls were soft, cushiony and just right.

Naya Rivera Dropped From Columbia Records

Naya RiveraMark Davis, Getty Images

Naya Rivera hasn’t been doing so hot these past few weeks. April saw her engagement with Big Sean come to an end and her future in the hit show ‘Glee’ come into question with her reported firing. May has just started, and the month is already looking bad for her.

Billboard reports that the actress-turned-singer has been dropped from Columbia Records after becoming the first star from ‘Glee’ to earn a solo recording contract.

Rivera has been preparing her debut album after signing to the label in 2011. She’s only released one single, ‘Sorry‘ with Big Sean. Even though the song was well-publicized and had the star guest as Sean, Rivera’s debut track ultimately flopped and didn’t chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her reps have remained mum throughout her consistent setbacks, and this one is no different.

Nike SB Dunk 'J' Pack – Sneaker Of The Week

Shopspaceship

If sneakers were music the Nike SB Dunk could easily be considered the underground hip-hop of kicks. Once heavily heralded and ushered in a world of collectors only to be forgotten in favor of more mainstream releases. Real heads know what time it is though and if you still fiend for the skate silhouette the Nike SB Dunk ‘J’ Pack looks pretty promising, so promising in fact that we’ve chosen it as our Sneaker Of The Week.

It doesn’t take a devoted collector to notice that these two pair play off of the Air Jordan 1 BRED and Air Jordan 1 Varsity Royal and being that the body types are fairly similar the color-blockings are in place pretty well. Suede and pebbled leather flank this set of sneakers to make them ultimately richer than regular releases.

This sneak peak isn’t even the tip of the iceberg but it’s all we’ve got for now so it’ll just have to tide us over until they land on shelves. Either way we’re totally stoked and looking forward to lining these up with the rest of our cops.

Danny Brown Discusses Why He Quit Lean, Slipping Up in Twitter Rants [VIDEO]

Danny Brown‘s humorous demeanor and candid ways are two of his personality trademarks. The latter trait was on full display during his recent interview with British DJ Tim Westwood.

The rapper has been trying to make healthier life choices over the past couple of months, and he specifically spoke about his decision to quit drinking lean. He wasn’t gravely serious during the conversation — he maintained it was a good-tasting drink — but was clear about the terrible effects as well.

Although it “might help you sleep good at night,” Brown likened lean to liquid heroin as he listed its side effects. The ‘Old’ creator said the drug helped him gain 10-15 pounds because of constipation. He believes Gucci Mane has been noticeably suffering from this problem.

“That’s why Gucci Mane belly is like that,” Brown informs. “It wasn’t the fact he was fat — he was bloated. There’s mad turds up in there.”

Therein lies the unfortunate Catch-22: The bowels start acting up as soon as the lean addicts stop using the drink.

“That’s why people continue to drink,” Brown says. “But then you hear people who drink all the time talk about it, but you don’t see the signs of that. I feel like there’s a lot of punk sippers out here.”

Brown says he needed the extra sleep lean provides because of his hectic touring schedule, but he also shares that the side effect could render the user unresponsive to any outside events that could kill him or her.

While Brown kept it lighthearted, he maintains his transition from the deadly drug has not been easy. He made headlines in February for going on a Twitter rant, which he reveals was partially inspired by the anxiety surrounding getting off lean. The Detroit native insists the moment was a slight emotional slip-up.

“That was one of those things I probably could’ve kept to myself,” Brown says. “But you know, Twitter is a motherf—er sometimes. Sometimes your battery just needs to die, you know.”
