The Final Father

We're gathered here today to look back at Father MC - then going just by Father - 's last record, "My." Now, this is not the last thing he ever recorded... He made an mp3-only album in 2010, and maybe he's still got some more music up his sleeve. But this is the last actual, vinyl record he ever put out. And considering the present music business and the kind of music Father makes, unless it turns out he has lost demos produced by Paul C tucked away in a vault (and he doesn't), I think it's safe to say this is his last record. It's called "My."

This is his sole single leading up to his presumably last CD album, also called My. You'll note that the label prominently reads "TAKEN FROM THE ALBUM 'TODAY'," so clearly the album was still being worked on when this was released. Indeed, the single came out in 2002, and the album in 2003, both on Empire MusicWerks[sic.] and BMG.

So, reading the title and knowing Father's history, this is obviously a love/sex rap for the ladies, either based on a classic old school sample, or some cheap, sappy keyboard riffs, right? With a hook like that Johnny Gill song probably. Wrong! It's actually a somewhat tough track, clearly inspired by the mid 90s, Hot 97-type rappers. The chorus goes, "My womens! My crew, my thugs. My city! My block, my drugs. My chicks! Set up chicks with them brims[?]. My army! My whole block of L'il Kims." This is the possibly the most New York Father MC has ever sounded. Not that Father hasn't veered into other lanes for a few songs in different stages in his career, but this was still pretty surprising.

Not that it's amazing. This would blend in alongside your average Jadakiss and Papoose tracks on a mixtape. And heads who didn't immediately recognize his voice would never guess this was by Father. But it's pretty well written, actually, and the beat is decent enough. It's even got that style of punchlines, with lines like, "I'm a rob you like Bivens, have Boyz II Men sign to me to make a livin'!" And there's no production credits on the label, but since I've also got the album on CD, I was able to look it up, and Father MC actually produced this, as well as everything else on the album, himself. The sticker on the CD promises that the, "UPTOWN SOUND INNOVATOR RETURNS WITH A BRAND NEW SOUND," and I think you can say he actually delivers. New for himself, at least, if not the industry.

And there's a couple versions on this 12". It's actually pretty well loaded, including the Instrumental, a Radio Mix and Acappella. But besides that, there's three versions of the song with unique instrumentals... The Main Mix, which is the most NY-sounding of its era. Then there's a rougher, choppier Club Remix, with all new, disparate samples and a tougher feel than you'd expect from a "Club" mix. This Club Remix, by the way, is also included as the final song on the album, where it's just labeled "My (Remix)."

That leaves one more remix, exclusive to the 12", The Hotlanta Remix. It utilizes a nice, old school bassline; but unfortunately covers it in all kinds of cheesy synth riffs. In other words, the kind of crap you'd expect from something called a "Hotlanta Remix."

So, overall, it's no masterpiece, but it's really not bad. And it's definitely nice to have our expectations subverted a little bit. Plus, it's the kind of record that seems to make more sense to have on vinyl, as again, it's more in line with the sort of thing east coast DJs would spin. I mean, they probably didn't. But still.

Stevie J on Mimi's Sex Tape: She Should Have Known Better (@MsJoseline @HitmanstevieJ)

Stevie J and Joseline had a lot to say about Mimi and her infamous sex tape.

In an interview with Big Tigger after the season 3 premiere of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, the couple discussed their reactions to the sex tape.

"Wasn't he putting fingers in his own rump in the video?" Stevie said.

Joseline, who has been very vocal about her disgust for the video, included that Nikko isn't the man he claims to be.

"I heard that he put on in hers and one in his at the same time." Joseline added. "But I don't have anything against the ones that swindle that way."

She also added that she wasn't impressed with Mimi's performance.

"Ain't nothing sexy about you hanging off a shower curtain, or saggy boobies that are hanging down to your ankles," she said. "Or no chicken thighs or no chicken legs."

Stevie added that he was disappointed in his ex and mentioned that Vivid contacted himself and Joseline to make a dirty flick with K. Michelle first. The two declined because they didn't want to "sell their souls" to the devil.

Ab Soul Titles Next Project, TDE Dropping 6 Albums in 2014 (@abdashsoul @kendricklamar)

Ab-Soul, one-sixth of the TDE movement, took to twitter for a Cinco De Mayo surprise, announcing the name of his current project. Simply titled "These Days...", this will be the second offering to come out of the Top Dawg Entertainment camp this year, with Schoolboy Q's "Oxymoron" back in February being first.

But that's not all! TheNQM snapped a flick of Kendrick in the studio with The Alchemist working on new music as well, so all of this seems to be in line with Anthony Tiffith's (TDE CEO) claims that each of the six artists on the roster would be releasing new works this year. That means we should expect more info on Isaiah Rashad, Jay Rock and SZA's projects in the coming months. 2014 just might be year of the TDE Takeover!

Iggy Azalea Shares Photo of Rita Ora in Bra and Panties

Thank God for Instagram. That’s probably what tons of men are saying after getting a peek of Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora‘s sexy new photo.

Posted on Iggy’s Instagram page, the image shows the rapper and Ora striking a zany pose in what looks to be a dressing room. But their zaniness isn’t what’s so eye-catching — Ora posing in nothing but her bra and panties is. And Iggy looks great too with sexy full red lips and flawless makeup.

Immediately, the photo went viral and has received a whopping 137,000 likes in just 20 short hours, which shows just how popular and gorgeous the two performers are.

‘The New Classic’ creator also posted another photo from that day. A solo shot which shows the blonde beauty posing seductively in a skin tight Moschino dress and a Moschino chain belt to match.

With Iggy looking so good these days, some might be curious to know if A$AP Rocky has any regrets about leaving her.

LMFAO Call Out Rick Ross for Faking Rap Persona

Did ‘Party Rock Anthem’ rappers LMFAO just start an actual beef with Rick Ross?

According to TMZ, the answer is yes. The duo shot a little slick talk towards the husky Miami rap don for serving them with a lawsuit for their 2010 hit song ‘Party Rock Anthem,’ calling him a fake thug for contriving his image as a cold-blooded drug lord, when in fact he is a former correctional officer.

In January, news broke that Ross sued LMFAO for taking his lyrics, slightly changing the words and using them in ‘Party Rock Anthem.’ In LMFAO’s song, they say “Everyday I’m shufflin’,” which clearly seems to borrow from the hook of Ross’ 2006 hit ‘Hustlin.’ LMFAO claim the lyrics in the song are fair game, even though they admit to putting their own spin on the line.

Hopefully, the beef will remain in the courtroom and not spill out into the streets because it doesn’t seem like LMFAO are the kind to throw a punch. That may not matter much since Ross went at female rapper Kreayshawn back in 2011, after she dissed him in one of her freestyles, so anything is possible.

Action Bronson's New Food Show 'F—, That's Delicious' Debuts [VIDEO]

Action Bronson is the perfect host for a show, which is probably why the folks at the Munchies channel gave him his own Internet program called ‘F—, That’s Delicious.’ Last week, we featured a teaser of the show and now, the first episode arrives.

The bearded lyricist visits two food spots in New York City as he recounts his two months on the road opening up for Eminem on the Rapture Tour.

The first place Bronson goes to is Roberta’s in Brooklyn, an Italian eatery that looks more like an abandoned factory than anything else. Don’t those kind of places usually serve the best food for some reason? Bronsolino speaks about how much he loves the place, as he orders a tasty looking pasta dish, and gives his take on how good the food is.

The chef also visits Eddie’s Sweet Shop, located in the Flushing section of Queens, N.Y. Out of the two restaurants, Eddie’s Sweet Shop seems to be the closest to the rapper’s heart. He reveals he visited the place as a child and fell in love with all of the candy, ice cream and milkshakes.

What’s also cool about the episode is when Bronson talks about being on the Rapture Tour because since he’s still relatively a new artist, his excitement for traveling to places like South Africa, Australia and Hawaii is evident, which makes it easier for viewers to live vicariously through him.

He also shows footage from a couple of exotic places too. Like a restaurant in South Africa, where you order the meat of your choice, they give it to you raw, then you take it to the next room where there’s a huge fire pit. From there, the chef throws the meat right on the flames.

As far as being a host, Bronson does a stellar job and he has the perfect combination of humor, wit and culinary know-how since he’s also a chef.

Hopefully, ‘F—, That’s Delicious’ will continue with more episodes because Action Bronson’s mix of wit, humor and culinary talk is pleasing to watch unfold.

Tech N9ne Begins His Takeover in 'Over It' Video

Tech N9ne has built quite the independent empire at Strange Music and he knows it. Tech’s takeover is on full display on his new single ‘Over It’ featuring singer Ryan Bradley as he announces, “No matter what way the fans receive music, we at Strange Music will be right there in it. All those streaming services make it nearly impossible for artist to make some real bread, we will prevail and take over all facets of the music industry.”

In the video, Tech N9ne sits upon a throne of sorts as he preaches to his black-cloaked minions. While the hook sounds like it could fit right in with the top 40 rotation, Tech hits hard with rapid-fire rhymes.

Tech raps, “Time’s up / I’m just gonna make it difficult for other rappers to get their rhymes up / N9ne’s a mindf–k / I’m the kind to design the crime / bury them all in line / your shine’s behind us / stop you can do it all day / but you’re not gonna pop / me the crew and all lay / in the box, you were topping the charts / look at the people not even jocking your art / why’s that / cause everybody that really buys rap / don’t wanna listen to any guys yap / fly, this will leave you in the sky cap.”

‘Over It’ is featured on Tech N9ne’s new album ‘Strangeulation‘, which is in stores now. The LP is the fifth edition in Tech’s series of ‘Collabos’ projects which feature collaborations with artists on the Strange Music roster.

Photos From Chris Brown Assault Case Released (@chrisbrown)

The U.S. Attorney's Office just released photos of Parker Adams, the victim of Chris Brown and his bodyguard Christopher Hollosy's alleged attack outside of a Washington D.C. Hotel last October. Prosecutors say Brown and Hollosy both hit Adams after he tried to jump in a picture Brown was taking with two women outside of his tour bus.

Witnesses testified that Adams and Brown got into an argument over the photo, with Brown resorting to hitting the young man, followed by Hollosy. Hollosy's trial ended earlier this month where he was found guilty, however he plans to appeal. Brown is still awaiting his fate in a Virginia jail cell.

Victor Ortiz: "Mayweather Is a P*ssy, So Is Maidana!" (@FloydMayweather)

While this weekend's Mayweather vs Maidana fight was a close call for most, former WBC champion Victor Ortiz thought both fighters left something to be desired.

When asked by TMZ for his opinion on the fight, Ortiz - who's lost to both Mayweather and Maidana in his career - called the two fighters "p*ssy."

Is this just a bitter opinion from an old opponent, or was the Mayweather vs. Maidana fight a little overhyped?
