Puma Swift Tech Pack

End

There is no rey area when it comes to style things are usually dope or wack, Black or White. Equally there is no gray area when it comes to this latest drop from Puma in black and white.

The Puma Swift Tech Pack features the shoe cast in either black or white and apart from a high contrast color difference they also have another subtle difference. The Black pair sports a suede build while white sticks to leather but both maintain a neoprene ankle collar for a nice snug fit. Each look is finished off with a tonal translucent outsole as well.

This release will be at Puma retailers on Sept 27 but if you don’t feel like hunting them down then look no further than End who will definitely have them in stock.

Janelle Monae Sings 'Power of Yet' on 'Sesame Street' [VIDEO]

We all know that Janelle Monae has got the power — that’s why she’s called the Electric Lady. Recently, the R&B singer traveled to ‘Sesame Street’ to teach kids the ‘Power of Yet.’

With the help from Cookie Monster, Bert, Elmo, Grover, Big Bird and others, Monae performs the jubilant song, penned by ‘Sesame Street’ music director Bill Sherman, to help children understand the importance of persistence and never giving up.

Dressed in her trademark androgynous tuxedo, Monae sings, “You try to add but the numbers came out wrong / You tried to sang but you didn’t know the whole song / You tried to cook but it didn’t taste right / You tried to dunk but you didn’t get enough height.” She then adds, “You just didn’t get it yet, but you’ll make it soon I’ll beeeeeeeeeeeeeeet / It’s the power of yet.”

The song is all kinds of adorable and with Monae’s powerful vocals, this tune should catch on with young viewers.

In an interview with Billboard, Monae said that one of her lifelong dreams was to perform on the iconic children’s program.

“I am so excited to be living one of my dreams — to be here on ‘Sesame Street,’” she told the magazine. “I’m here because I am teaching everybody on ‘Sesame Street’ the importance and the power of ‘yet.’ Never, ever, ever give up because there’s so much power in ‘yet.’”

Watch Janelle Monae show the neighborhood kids and ‘Sesame Street’ friends the power of “yet” above.

Nike Free Chukka Leather Samples

boyfanfootball

Sneaker samples are tricky because the actual shoe may or may not make it to retail outlets and often if they do it’s with alterations that make it differ from the teaser image you may have seen months prior. With that in mind we take a look this sample set of Nike Free Chukka Leather that features colorways we’re in love with.

The relatively simple silhouette sports a leather build with a feel that gives off a sort of covered wide mouth mesh effect that is perforated for breathability. Black, magenta and blue are all present and each one is given a white Nike Free 3.0 outsole as a finish.

These on foot images are cool and all but chances are they don’t do the shoe justice at all so we’ll be really happy when they go from sample to retail so that we can get the full 360 visual on em. For now though check em out below. And try not to fall to hard …

Jessie Ware Wants to Feel Passion in 'Say You Love Me' Video

Jessie Ware shows her vulnerable side in the video for her new song ‘Say You Love Me.’

Instead of going for a storyline or throwing in tons of special effects, the 29-year-old songstress is filmed sitting on some big rock in front of a backdrop depicting a nature scene. Aside from the butterflies and little birds that fly around, the environment looks quite artificial.

However, it’s pretty obvious in the first few lines of the track that we’re not really supposed to pay attention to the visuals. Instead, the focus is on Ware’s sentiments.

“Just say you love me, just for today / And don’t give me time ’cause that’s not the same / Want to feel burning flames when you say my name / Want to feel passion flow into my bones / Like blood through my veins,” she sings, begging for her man’s love.

‘Say You Love Me’ is the current single off her upcoming sophomore album, ‘Tough Love.’

Jagged Edge Settle Down on 'Ready'

Jagged EdgeSoundcloud

Jagged Edge is mostly famous for their marital ballads like ‘Let’s Get Married’ and ‘Promise.’ The veteran R&B group rehashes the wedding theme on their new single, ‘Ready.’

A follow-up to their previous tune ‘Hope,’ the Atlanta quartet — Brian, Brandon, Kyle and Richard — sing of settling down and starting a family with their ladyloves.

“I know I’m done cheating / I know I’m done creeping / I’m trying to get it out of my life / Time to get myself right,” they croon, adding, “I thank God I’ve found my wife.”

On the chorus, the group sings, “I never thought I’d say this, I think I’m ready to be in love / Ready to be in love.”

Veteran hitmakers Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox produced this sumptuous love ballad that women will love and true players will respect. Overall, the song is Quiet Storm-certified.

Jagged Edge is currently putting the finishing touches on their new project, ‘J.E. Heartbreak 2.’ The collection is scheduled to walk down store aisles on Oct. 27.

Who Flipped It Better? Big K.R.I.T. vs. Three 6 Mafia

The Sample: Rick James – ‘Hollywood’ (1978)

Weed is a hell of a drug. For instance: Rick James once found himself at a party in Hawaii with Salvador Dali. The Spanish Surrealist stared at James for a while before coming over and asking if he could draw a portrait of the star. Dali sketched a picture on a napkin in about 15 or 20 minutes and gave it to Rick, but the next day James smoked a spliff and jumped in the pool with the napkin in his pocket. A gem casually ruined by a joint.

Cocaine is also a hell of a drug. For instance: When James made his national TV debut on American Bandstand, he charmed the whole audience. Perhaps he’d given himself a little ski lift, because his nose started drooling onstage thanks to all the yayo he’d snorted before coming out. Whoops.

Best of all, Rick James’ music is a hell of a drug. It makes your knees buckle and your mind swirl. He’s like James Brown if Brown had fully embraced his own drug abuse and integrated it into freaky music. ‘Hollywood’ is evidence of that — it’s somber, but not depressing. He sings goodbye to momma and poppa as he goes off to Hollywood, but it’s hopeful, not painful. It even breaks into a dub jam of sorts by the end.

Flip 1: Three 6 Mafia – ‘Da Summa’ (Prod. by DJ Paul & Juicy J) [1995]

DJ Paul and Juicy J were the production geniuses behind Three 6 Mafia, as well as two of many incredibly proficient MCs in the Hypnotize Camp posse. Crunchy Black, Gangsta Boo, Koopsta Knicca, and the late Lord Infamous were all outstanding rappers in their own right, but without DJ Paul and Juicy J, the group wouldn’t have created the sound it introduced to rap.

‘Da Summa’ was perhaps the most iconic song from Three 6′s seminal ‘Mystic Stylez’ LP, recognized as their first official album, although the ‘Locced Out Smoked Out’ tape had dropped a year before in ’94. It’s all in those chimes or keys or whatever instrument plays that first melody at :11 of ‘Hollywood.’ Xylophone maybe? Whatever it is, you can recognize it in an instant. Perfect for getting fried.

Flip 2: Big K.R.I.T. – ‘Steps’ (Feat. Big Sant & Smoke DZA) [Prod. by Big K.R.I.T.] (2014)

Big K.R.I.T. did something totally different with it. A quick one-two synth stab is answered by one high note from the eleven that play at :11 of ‘Hollywood.’ K.R.I.T. attaches that single high note to the snare, giving the sample a more percussive effect. His beat is also a lot busier drum-wise than Paul and Juicy’s beat, so it brings Rick’s loop to life a bit more. It’s just another brilliantly subtle example of why K.R.I.T. is an infinitely better producer than he is a rapper.

Three 6 Mafia’s song is a classic. It sounds carved out of a 4.a.m. blunt ride, and Ann Hines added the perfect touch of Blue Raspberry to it. K.R.I.T. is the equivalent of a deacon who can’t stop bumping Screw tapes and hitting the strip club, if only for the food. He knew if he touched ‘Da Summa,’ he’d have to freak it completely differently, and he did.

Tagging the single note to the snare ups the energy and ties the sample to the percussion, while Paul and Juicy let the synth lounge in between the drums for a more drugged out feel. K.R.I.T. isn’t about all that lollygagging, and he’s definitely not down to just jack the same Three 6 sample and create an identical vibe on his song. He raps, “You could never be the same because you ain’t got no change” at the end of his verse, but it’s the beat that proves it.

Air Jordan 6 Retro 'Slam Dunk'

Sneakernews

If you aren’t familiar with manga then you may not be familiar with the Slam Dunk series but it doesn’t take an education in anime to appreciate this latest Air Jordan 6 colorway. The “Slam Dunk” inspired version of the silhouette borrows heavily from the comic to give us an upper that is hard to look away from.

The upper incorporates the comic via graphic images but is given an all Red overlay that makes the print feel textural in nature. With that as a base you are also served translucent elements via the outsole, tongue and heel tab as well. These don’t sport a 23 on them however and instead power forward character Hanamichi Sakuragi’s number 10 graces the heel.

If these spur you to go investigate the Slam Dunk series you’ll notice that Shohoku High’s Basketball uniforms look a lot like the Chicago Bulls and don’t consider that a coincidence as the comic was developed in 1990. If you know your sneaker history as well you’ll know that is the same year as Nike released the Air Jordan 6 which is what makes this release so special.

French Montana and Khloe Kardashian End Relationship

Khloe Kardashian French MontanaEthan Miller, Getty Images

It was fun while it lasted but sometimes a couple needs to take a breather. French Montana and Khloe Kardashian have decided to end their love affair after eight months of courtship.

An insider told Us Weekly that the couple are “on a break” because the “relationship got too heavy and Khloe needed to take a step back.”

Apparently, the Coke Boy leader was too clingy and that irritated the high-profile reality TV star.

“It grated on her that he became so dependent on her,” said the source.

Neither French or Khloe have responded to the rumored reports of a breakup, but their relationship will be front and center when the reality series ‘Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons’ premieres on E! Television in November.

In an interview with Angie Martinez on her Power 105 show in July, the couple said they knew that people would gossip about their relationship.

“People are going to comment no matter what, like if I dated the most clean-cut, perfect guy, they’re gonna comment. That’s just the way it is,” said Khloe. “So if I’m having fun and if I like this kid, no one else should care. They’re not f—in’ him, so why do they care?”

“Haaannn,” added Montana.

For now, at least, Khloe wants some distance to see if she really wants to be in a committed relationship with the Bronx rhymer. “She just wants time apart from him,” said the source.

Vibe Magazine Dissolves Once More

VibeVibe

After 20 years of reporting on hip-hop, R&B and fashion, the print version of Vibe magazine has ended amid layoffs at Spin Media Group.

According to Capital New York, Spin Media is going through a major reorganization plan to focus more on their digital platforms.

CEO Stephen Blackwell told Capital that 19 positions were eliminated mostly in the video, photo and sales departments.

“If we’re not going to be putting together print pages anymore and designing print, we really don’t need those design platforms,” said Blackwell. “We really don’t need the capacity to negotiate with printers.”

The news follows a hectic year for Spin Media. The beleaguered company hired Blackwell back in August after his predecessor, Dale Strang, stepped down. Blackwell said that the goal of the company is to develop the company’s digital brands.

“When I look at what was going on here prior to my tenure, I think that some of the resources…if we’re directing resources toward print, that intrinsically means that we’re directing resources away from digital,” he told Capital. “I’m here to commit to directing all of our resources toward the digital side of Vibe.”

Although the print version, which was founded by Quincy Jones in 1992, is dissolving, the brand will live on in the digital space. According to Blackwell, Vibe.com receives six to seven million unique visitors per month and has a combined 1.4 million followers on Facebook and Twitter.

This isn’t the first time the magazine has folded. In 2009, the print version ended but was revived later that year when current Editor-In-Chief, Jermaine Hall, was in charge.

Nevertheless, Vibe magazine — the print version — will always be remembered for their eye-popping covers. Some of their legendary cover shots of artists include Naughty By Nature’s Treach, an afro-wearing Ice Cube, Jay Z, Tupac Shakur, TLC, Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Toni Braxton and many more.

Executives at Vibe magazine had no comment on the matter.
