Nick Cannon Files for Divorce from Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey Nick CannonChristopher Polk, Getty Images

One of music’s most successful couples is officially heading toward Splitsville. Nick Cannon has filed for divorce from Mariah Carey.

According to TMZ, Nick quietly filed papers on Dec. 12 to sever ties from his superstar wife. Several days prior, on Dec. 8, the ‘Wild ‘N Out’ host shared that he and the songbird were separated on an appearance on ‘Good Morning America.’

Last month, the singer had a very public snafu when she showed up extremely late to rehearse for NBC’s annual tree lighting ceremony. At the time, TMZ cited that Mariah was busy on the phone with her lawyers discussing her divorce and was unable to make the rehearsal on time. As we all know, her vocal performance of ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ was less than stellar.

Mariah and Nick were married in 2008, and have two young children, twins Monroe and Moroccan, who were born in 2011.

Despite personal troubles, both Nick and Mariah have been enjoying success on the career front. The Grammy award-winning songstress just announced her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace while the entertainment mogul continues to focus on his music and TV career.

Funkmaster Flex Blasts Jay Z's 'Trash' Life + Times Website

Brad Barket/Theo Wargo, Getty Images

Funkmaster Flex has internet beef — literally. The legendary Hot 97 DJ blasted the people behind Jay Z‘s Life + Times website on the radio yesterday (Jan. 15) for stealing his ideas and referred to it as “trash.”

Flex claims that a writer from Life + Times contacted him in the past to write a story about his digital app, only to give those same ideas to Jay Z for his Samsung app. “First of all, I salute the young man who wrote the story,” Flex prefaces in the rant, which begins around the 10:56-mark in the clip below. “I appreciate the love but brah… I peeped back then when they were using a writer from the outside that did not work for the magazine, excuse me, the website. And that website is trash, by the way.”

Flex claims that he was fine with Jay Z stealing his ideas, chalking it up to the game. “I was good with that. I ate that,” Flex says. “Everybody’s out here hustling.”

Given the shaky past, Flex then says what really burned him is when a writer contacted him to be interviewed for a story about Dipset’s reunion. Flex was shocked because he was apparently expressly told not to play any Dipset records at Jay Z’s 40/40 Club. “I’ve always been super neutral in this situation, super,” said Flex. “But I don’t understand how somebody from that site can ask me about my involvement in the Dipset reunion. But when I used to go to the 40/40, I was told not to play any Dipset records. I’m so confused.”

He then says, “Don’t think I can’t ruin you,” which appears to be a direct diss at Jay. Hear Flex’s rant against the site below.

Sneaker of the Week: Air Jordan 5 Infrared 23/Poison Green

Nikeblog

As much as we hate to play favorites, the Air Jordan 5 holds a very special place deep in our hearts. So finding out we could expect an entirely new colorway before the year is out is reason enough to make the Nike silhouette our Sneaker of the Week.

The Air Jordan 5 kicked off the ’90s in a most incredible way with a silhouette that still feels as futuristic as it did the first time we saw it. This colorway is interesting, to say the least, with a midsole that steals the show by going gradient. Black and infrared 23 transitions to light poison green and grey splattered with black — the effect is echoed on the tongue as well. Black mesh paneling and an ankle eyelet perched in a white leather upper finishes the quizzical look off well.

These are going to be one of those drops that you see everybody with after their June 6 release date. Mark your calendars accordingly so that you don’t miss out.

In an interview with CR Fashion Book, the 22-year-old rapper-producer revealed that his project will arrive in stores in March. Scott describes the album as a musical carnival about his life.

“It’s like a Beyonce concert,” he states. “The carnival, the livestock, and the show are all parts of the event. I feel like that’s how my life is. The carnival is like my imagination — it’s the drive behind my vision.”

“Even though I don’t feel like I’m at a point where my s— is at an all-time high, we’re working to get there,” he continues. “The livestock show is the road to get to where I’m going. At this point, I’m riding a bull for just eight seconds and it’s hard as f—. But we made it.”

The Great Marijuana Debate: 10 Rappers Who Love to Smoke Weed

For decades, rappers have been in support of recreational pot use. They’ve centered albums, videos, fashion and their downtime around their love for smoking weed. Take Dr. Dre’s 1992 classic ‘The Chronic,’ which was dedicated to the sticky-icky or Method Man and Redman’s 1999 cut ‘How High,’ to name a few.

There was a time when the legalization of marijuana was unimaginable. But that all changed in 2012, when Washington became one of the first states to legalize weed for recreational use.

While 23 states have laws legalizing pot in some way, the debate surrounding legalization continues. 2 Chainz recently chimed in on the issue, appearing on ‘Nancy Grace’ to debate the topic and show his support for making pot legal. But Tity Boi isn’t the only MC who hold weed in high regard. Check out these other artists who stand behind the right to roll up in The Great Marijuana Debate: 10 Rappers Who Love to Smoke Weed.

Plies Asks for Forgiveness in '2 Good 4 Me' Video

Even a self-proclaimed goon has to apologize sometimes. Plies does just that in his new video for ’2 Good 4 Me,’ a rap balled featured on his ‘Da Last Real N—- Left 2′ mixtape.

In the visuals, the Florida rapper is seen shunning his woman’s love, as he constantly ignores her and scrolls through his smartphone behind her back.

Aside from Plies and the female character, the scene is bare. Body language is key here. Plus, the female lead doesn’t disappoint in the looks department.

Watch Plies realize he messed up a good thing above.

Ne-Yo Takes the Runway to the Beach in 'Coming With You' Video

Ne-Yo is hardly ever without beautiful women in his music videos. However, in his new visual for ‘Coming With You,’ he’s not only surrounded by them, but also has some fun in the sun at a beach party.

Produced by Andrew Lerios and directed by Collin Tilley, the video kicks off at the pier, where it looks like Ne-Yo is hosting a fashion show with a long catwalk. Dressed in colorful garb, he gets the chance to have a little dance with each of the ladies — in a very playful way. Then midway through the track, the scene transitions to night, where the party continues. They all get down in the sand by showcasing a choreographed number, complete with a costume change.

The singer keeps the soiree going with a ’90s-inspired dance beat — it’ll get you moving instantly.

‘Coming With You’ is the latest song off Ne-Yo’s forthcoming LP, ‘Non-Fiction,’ which is set to release on Jan. 27 in the U.S. and Feb. 16 internationally. But if you can’t wait, you can pre-order it now on iTunes and download four tracks instantly.
