Geraldo Rivera Says Hip-Hop Ruins Black Lives, Twitter Reactions Show Outrage
Fox News pundit Geraldo Rivera made some controversial statements about hip-hop during an interview on HuffPost Live Wednesday (Feb. 18). The veteran journalist, who calls himself a “militant moderate,” says hip-hop has been more damaging to black and brown people than racism over the last decade.
Rivera aimed his vitriol at hip-hop’s elder statesman Russell Simmons for supporting rap music, which he believes is the reason why African-Americans and Latinos are not excelling in the workplace.
“This whole ethos, and I love Russell Simmons — he’s a dear friend of mine, I admire his business acumen — at some point though, those guys need to cop to the fact that by encouraging this distinctive culture that is removed from the mainstream they have encouraged people to be so different from the mainstream that they can’t participate other than the racks in the garment center and those entry level jobs,” he said. “I lament it; I really do. I think it’s been very destructive culturally.”
Interviewer Josh Zepps responded to Rivera’s rant by stating, “I don’t want to go down an entire racial hole because there are a lot of potential explanations for why there is alienation in minority communities [outside of] hip-hop.” To which Rivera answers, “Oh, of course, but I think fashion plays a part.”
Reactions to Rivera’s comments were met with outrage on social media. Almost everyone found his statements ludicrous as there are numerous things that have culturally destroyed black lives beyond the past decade — namely systematic white supremacy.

Amber Rose has been immersed in drama since the close of last year.
Her and Wiz have split up, they’re going through a nasty custody battle and now her and Khloé Kardashian are going at each other.
So what’s the best thing for the Philadelphia native to do? Leave all of that behind and head to Trinidad and Tobago for Carnival.
Rose took to her Instagram page, and posted photos and videos of herself having a splendid time. She also wrote this caption in one of the posts: “Men aren’t the only ones that can have fun on tour … women can too. #Umad. Trini men tho???”
There’s one shot that captures the 31-year-old posing in full Carnival make-up with another attendee. She also posted a full body shot of herself showing off her skimpy costume.
The best posts, however, are the videos. There’s one that shows the newly separated mom swirling her hips, showing why she’s become a sex-symbol to so many. There’s another vid that shows her grinding against a lucky Carnival goer, who couldn’t look more content.
Without a doubt, Amber is dusting off her recent dramas and replacing them with warm weather, good food and music. Its a stark contrast to what she’s been surrounded with lately–bickering, name calling and insults. It seems like her trip to the Caribbean island couldn’t have been more timely.
Just yesterday (Feb. 17), TMZ reported that Rose’s estranged husband, Wiz Khalifa, is looking for more custody of their one-year-old son Sebastian. He claims that she spends too much time partying and being away and not enough time with their child.
It’ll be interesting to see if the rapper uses these new Instagram posts to build his custody case, although there’s no telling if Sebastian is in Trinidad too.
Regardless, the photos look beautiful and so does Amber. Hopefully, she’ll come back refreshed and ready to put the last several months behind her.

Treasure Davis Kicks Herself for Staying Loyal on 'Simple' Featuring Kid Ink
In a relationship, there are some women who will instantly kick a man to the curb when he cheats and then there are others who will admittedly let him stay but own the blame. That’s the premise of Treasure Davis’ new song “Simple” featuring Kid Ink.
On the mid-tempo Pop & Oak-produced track, the R&B newcomer asks herself why she puts up with so much foolishness from her man.
“I really do try but I just can’t stop it / Wake up in the morning fixing your omelet / Making myself sick I just want to vomit,” she sings before launching into the chorus, which couldn’t be more catchier.
“Why the f— am I so God damn simple, when everything you do makes me resentful / I say I’m done for good, but that depends, though / ‘Cause I always end up wanting to kiss you,” she sings, with a light and throaty voice that falls somewhere between Erykah Badu and Yummy Bingham.
Kid Ink provides some solid moments with his guest verse (“Don’t be so pushy, I ain’t no rookie”) and plays off Treasure nicely, which gives the duet a throwback feel.
Treasure, a Los Angeles native, got her start penning songs for Chris Brown and singing back-up for artists like Nicki Minaj, Keri Hilson and Keyshia Cole. The RCA Records signee also has a J. Cole collaboration under her belt. No word yet on when she’ll be releasing her first album but she’s off to a pretty good start.
