Doug E. Fresh’s acceptance speech took an emotional turn when he started to shout out women. He broke down in tears because of a loss he suffered just over a month ago.
“I lost my mother five weeks ago,” he said through tears. “I would like to acknowledge my mother because she was there for me since day one. My mother had Alzheimer’s and before she passed away she made a voice recording.”
He played the voice recording and touched many who saw this vulnerable moment. But the heartbreak soon turned into joy as he performed his 1985 classic ‘La Di Da Di’ with Snoop Dogg spitting Slick Rick’s rhymes.

Hip-Hop Inspires Doctors to Treat Mental Illness
It looks like Lupe Fiasco was onto something in 2007, when he started rapping, “Hip-hop saved my life.” And while he may have been ahead of his time seven years ago, Pharrell Williams backed him up last year when he let everyone know just how ‘Happy’ people can be while listening to some good hip-hop. So now it seems like the genre is helping doctors treat mental illnesses.
According to The Guardian, doctors in the United Kingdom think “they have found a new use for [hip-hop]: as a treatment for mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and depression.”
Two researchers — neuroscientist Becky Inkster of Cambridge University’s department of psychiatry, and consultant psychiatrist Akeem Sule of the South Essex Partnership Trust — have started Hip Hop Psych, a “social venture” that focuses on the use of hip-hop to tackle extreme mental illness. As a form of therapy, Inkster and Sule ask their patients to write out lyrics describing where they hope to see themselves in the future.
“There is so much more to hip-hop than the public realises [sic],” Inkster said while reminiscing on her relationship to the music genre. “I grew up in the ’90s during the golden era of hip-hop, when it exploded into mainstream culture. It is rich in references to psychiatric illnesses that have not been properly explored, and which could be of enormous benefit to patients. We want to work with rappers, charities, medical groups and others to promote its real potential.”
Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ is just one of the songs highlighted by Hip Hop Psych for their potential use in the understanding of mental illness.
Moving forward, both are hopeful to see the use of hip-hop as a psychiatric treatment taught in medical schools.

Dej Loaf vs. Lil Durk — The Boombox Battle
Congratulations goes to Chris Brown for not only taking the win in last week’s Boombox Battle against Usher, but it also means that he is the next artist to enter The Boombox Battle Hall of Fame.
With over two-thirds of the vote, the singer’s song, ‘Autumn Leaves,’ blew past Usher’s ‘I Don’t Mind,’ knocking him out of the battle competition.
And now that Breezy has entered the Hall of Fame, we’ve got two new artists who will go head to head in this week’s battle. But instead of picking different songs, The Boombox is focusing on one track from a new rapper, which has been remixed by another.
First, there’s Michigan rapper Dej Loaf and her track, ‘Try Me,’ which might sound easy on the ear but the lyrics pack a punch. With a mid-tempo, head-bopping beat, her sing-song flow counters the hard and, at times, violent lyrics. Between detailing how she’s all in it for her family and crew to popping anyone who messes with that, Loaf is no joke and a strong contender in this battle.
“You are an impostor, ain’t got no money / Put the burner to his tummy, and make it bubbly / I really hate n—-s, I’m a Nazi / Love wearin’ all black, you should see my closet / Rock that all white, when I’m feelin’ godly / Hop out like Coke, I ain’t gotta park it / F— is y’all saying, bitch, my hood love me / 48214 real n—-s know me,” she delivers.
Going against Loaf is Chicago rapper Lil Durk. Rapping over Loaf’s ‘Try Me’ beat, Durk doesn’t hold back on his words and brings the power. However, it’s more about repping his crew and celebrating his signing to Def Jam and French Montana’s Coke Boys, which is the complete opposite of his opponent who intends to stay independent.
“Bitch I’m from Chicago where we gon’ ace s— / If we catch a homie we don’t say s— / Let them rappers know we ain’t who to play with / I can’t eat her, I just freak her / Pass it to my n—-s like I’m blowing reefer / 30 old jam is like Aquafina / Free my n—- Jam that lil boy a deemer / And since I got my deal, I feel important / I live what I rap and just record it,” Durk rhymes.

Beyonce Fans Sound Off on Singer's Alleged Topless Photos
The Twitterverse exploded this morning (Oct. 14) when alleged paparazzi photos of a topless Beyonce surfaced online.
The pictures that are causing a stir on the the social media platform show a woman, who people think is Queen Bey, lounging on a beach without a bikini top. In some photos, she’s covering up her breasts while exposing them in others.
Beyonce quickly became a trending topic on Twitter as fans questioned the authenticity of the photos. The BeyHive has come to the conclusion that the pictures are not legit.
“They try say those were beyonce’s leaked nudes. lol please. if beyonce nudes were leaked Jay-Z would get his people to cut your internet off,” one Twitter user wrote.
While the photos don’t look like Beyonce (sorry fellas, we can’t show them here), this brings up the issue of invasion of privacy when it comes to women in Hollywood. Recently, singer Ariana Grande shut down talk over her own alleged nude photos, claiming they were fake. Last week, Iggy Azalea had to curse out a paparazzo for taking photos of her and a friend at a grocery store.

Chris Brown Says Ebola Epidemic Is a 'Form of Population Control'
Chris Brown has been known to express his opinions through Twitter — for better or for worse. He’s gone on rants, deleted the social networking site and even engaged in some beef through tweets. So it comes as no surprise when Breezy shared his thoughts on Ebola.
Instead of seeing the fatal illness as an unfortunate natural occurrence, the singer sounds like a conspiracy theorist in his tweet. “I don’t know … But I think this Ebola epidemic is a form of population control. S— is getting crazy bruh,” he writes. Brown believes the government is trying to control the world’s population by infecting people with the disease.
With over 8,900 cases diagnosed and the death toll hitting 70 percent, the disease has been one of the central topics on the news in past weeks. However, with two diagnosed cases in the U.S., where the ‘X’ crooner lives, and most of the cases being in West Africa, his thoughts are a bit far-fetched.
It looks like Brown realized the same thing and took back his previous comments only minutes after tweeting his conspiracy theory. “Let me shut my black ass up!” he tweeted.
While it’s good to know that he’s aware of what’s happening in the world, next time we think Chris Brown should think before he tweets.
