Happy Birthday Ray Lewis, Check Him Out When He Was Younger

Dr. Dre's $3 Million Lawsuit Against Death Row Dismissed (@drdre)

While Dr. Dre is surely riding high on his recent Beats/ Apple merger deal and being offered the key to his beloved city of Compton, he won't be making any bread off of Death Row's back, as a judge recently dismissed his case against the label for unpaid royalties filed in February.

According to The Wrap, Dre was seeking revenue earned from the label while it was under Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The legendary producer claimed $676,444 in licensing royalties, $1.2 mill for artist/producer royalties and just under $1.2 mill for digital sales of music produced or performed by him.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Vincent Zurzolo ruled that contracts signed before Death Row filed for bankruptcy are void, therefore he gets nothing.

Small thing to a giant.

6 Brothers Charged With Rape of Sister While Parents Watched

Police in North Carolina just hit six brothers with rape and sexual assault charges for allegedly abusing their now teenage sister for over a decade.

Aaron Jackson, 19; Benjamin Jackson, 19; Nathaniel Jackson, 21; Mathew Jackson, 23; Jon Jackson, 25; and Eric Jackson, 27, were arrested last Tuesday (May 6). Authorities say they have been following the case for a year, and that the now 16-year-old sister was abused between the ages of 4 and 14.

According to a neighbor, all seven kids were home schooled and "kept to themselves." The parents also face felony child abuse charges because they witnessed the repeated rapes. Perquimans County Sheriff Eric Tilley said "I lay blame on the parents, and their charges are less than what the boys are going to get."

Eldest brother Eric confessed to a family pastor back in 2012. The pastor encouraged him to tell police, which he did, setting off the investigation:

"How many people are going to walk into a law enforcement office and say 'I had sex with my sister?' It just doesn't happen," said Tilley. "But that's one thing... these kids, they do have a belief in the Bible. They knew it was wrong and they had to get it out."

Once suspicions rose, the parents attempted to pick up and move to Colorado, but the daughter soon contacted Colorado Child Protective Services, who turned the case over to police.

According to Tilley, "For the first kid (Eric) it seems to be like a relief, but even when they came to turn themselves in last week, it was like, 'We're here.' I don't think they know the magnitude of what they'd done because I don't think they know it was wrong. They haven't been taught any differently."

All six brothers are being held on $150,000 bond and awaiting arraignment. The parents were released on $15,000 bond.

The Underachievers Debut Trippy Visuals for 'Chrysalis'

If you’re a fan of The Underachievers, you’ve been waiting patiently for their debut album, ‘The Cellar Door: Terminus Ut Exordium,’ to arrive since the Brooklyn, N.Y., duo dropped two solid mixtapes last year: ‘Indigoism’ and ‘The Lords of Flatbush.’ While new music from Issa Dash and AK has been scarce, they satisfy fans with a fresh track and an accompanying visual for ‘Chrysalis.’ The result is a trippy video that finds the set looking like hip-hop demons spitting rapid-fire rhymes over the haunting Death Tarot-produced beat.

Directed by This Is Butta, the effort is a mix of colorful filters and twisted cinematography. Just think of it as a hallucinogenic journey through their reality and growth as MCs. Like videos for ‘The Proclamation’ and ‘Midnight Augusto,’ the team take center stage here. Try not to close your eyes while listening to the depth of the Brainfeeder-signed pair’s lyrics because the visuals are all a part of the experience.

While Issa Dash celebrates his royal status (“Kick back n—-, relax and pack dabs / I’m a young lord here, that’s word to A$AP… Elevatin’ n—s by paintin’ lyric pictures / The ring you gon’ kiss it”) AK rhymes of his self-awareness (“Better know your worth / Stay puffin’ that bomb herb / Keep my vision clear view while lurkin’ upon earth / Gold souls can’t lose, them critics they want work / I’m enlightened like Zeus / Puttin’ titans up in the dirt”).

Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 "Lance Mountain"

Nike

It appears that skater Lance Mountain has actually moved mountains by getting Nike SB and Jordan Brand to come together on one silhouette. The Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 ‘Lance Mountain’ is a collaboration that tells his story and undoubtedly will be on of the bigger releases of 2014.

The idea for the collaboration came about by way of Lance remembering the time he got sent mismatched Air Jordan 1′s and painted them over to make them look more uniform. The paint job would obviously scuff to reveal their dirty little secret and while it was done out of necessity originally the nostalgia of it all caused him to make the modification official for this release.

Painted over in all black or all white the sneakers beneath the BRED and Varsity Royal colorways of the Air Jordan 1 and as seen in the images above its almost required that you put a beating on these things to get your money’s worth. Look for this sneaker set to release on June 7th and don’t feel bad about scuffing them up at all.

Rihanna Donates $25,000 to LAPD After Cellphone Mishap

RihannaStephen Dunn, Getty Images

If you follow Rihanna on Instagram, you know her selfie game is on-point. Recently, RiRi suffered a selfie mishap but was able to turn it into a charitable situation.

According to the Los Angeles Times, it all started last week during a Los Angeles Clippers game. Rihanna decided to take a selfie alongside Los Angeles Police Commission President Steve Soboroff’s, posing with his cell phone.

During the selfie, the ‘Stay’ singer dropped Soboroff’s phone, which cracked the screen (see the photo below). The image of the pair went viral and Rihanna went on Twitter to apologize for the mishap.

“Sorry I broke your phone,” she tweeted.

Soboroff thought the photo would help boost morale after the LAPD lost five police officers within the last two months — four in collisions and one of a heart attack. The veteran officer took it a step further and came up with a plan to auction off the cracked phone with the Rihanna selfie included.

When the commission president bumped into Rihanna again at the Clippers game last Sunday (May 11), he explained to the R&B diva his idea to sell the phone on eBay.

Graciously, Rihanna autographed the phone with “Sorry! I (heart) LAPD. Rihanna.” In addition, she also donated $25,000 to help underprivileged students become police cadets and families of fallen officers.

Currently, the autographed cracked phone is up for sale on eBay. As of Wednesday (May 14), the bidding is over $13,000. The auction will close on May 15 at 1PM PST.

Props to Rihanna for her donation and turning a selfie accident into a win-win situation for the LAPD and her fans alike.

Opening Ceremony x adidas Originals Fall / Winter Collection

Hypebeast

Opening Ceremony and adidas Originals have made great bedfellows for years now and anytime we see their names mentioned in the same breath it’s a given that things will get fresh. The dynamic duo is back yet again with a collection of kicks to be released later this year.

The adidas Originals Stan Smith is readily identifiable albeit the use of some very interesting materials and graphic print uppers as one pair feels like a mural of sorts and the other two are animal inspired. The other sneaker looks to be an original creation that takes the sole of the adidas Originals ZX 500 Trail on a futuristic ride using suede and animal print as well.

It feels a bit weird to look forward to Fall with the false start that Spring keeps giving but lets just consider this set of sneakers the silver lining to global warming. Don’t expect to see them at just any old adidas Originals retailer either.

Cam'ron and A-Trak Head to Harlem With Dipset for 'Dips—s' Video

The Dipset gang reunite in the video for ‘Dips—s,’ the newest effort to come from Cam’ron and A-trak‘s collaborative album, ‘Federal Reserve.’ While the track is not a complete reunion for the team, for Dipset fans, it’s a step in the right direction.

Evidently, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, Freekey Zekey and Cam are all on the same page these days, and they’ve seemingly deaded any beef from years ago. They all appear in the visual for the song, produced by A-Trak, Just Blaze and Oliver.

‘Dips—s’ brings you right back to that classic Dipset style of the early 2000s. The track definitely has that big Just Blaze sound that we’ve come to love throughout the years. And leave it to Cam’ron to go in with sharp lines devoted to all of his naysayers.

“I’m that n—- y’all I ain’t even lying / I run fashion man and I ain’t even trying / I see these f— boys hatin’ on me / Been in the crib three years, they still waitin’ on me,” spits Killa, as he walks the streets of Harlem decked out in a fur coat. He also uses a fast cadence, which is a slight departure from his usual slow, choppy flow.

Ricky Saiz, the director of the video, takes an extremely artistic approach in the shots he’s selected, as he captures not only the beauty of the historic Harlem neighborhood, but also some of its griminess, which works amazingly well. Folks like singer Cat Power and DJ Venus X make cameos too.

Additionally, having Cam, Juelz, Freekey and Jimmy together again in a visual is only one of the reunions that take place here. Just Blaze has spoken at length about his problems with Dame Dash, and the two stand side by side in the video, which shows they’ve patched up whatever differences they had as well.

Dame closes out the track by delivering a few words about himself and his team. “Nobody’s safe,” he warns. “We back.”

‘Federal Reserve’ is due later this year. Fans of Cam and A-Trak can catch both at their New York City show May 31 at Terminal 5.

Exclusive! Iamsu! Recalls Having to Steal Groceries to Eat (@iamsu)

Bay Area rapper and producer Iamsu! is doing unbelievably well now. He's collaborated with artists like T.I. and 50 Cent and his HBK fam is fast becoming one of the most recognized up-and-coming crews in Hip-Hop. Like most rappers however, it wasn't always that way.

Iamsu broke down the meaning behind his song "Never Goin' Broke," saying it's more about having a hustler's mentality than actually becoming wealthy enough to never go broke.

He then details having to steal fried chicken and other groceries from the store to have something to eat as a broke college kid.

Exclusive! Yukmouth: NBA Shouldn't Take Team From Sterling (@THAREALYUKMOUTH, @DaBishopDonJuan)

During a sit down with VladTV, Bishop Don Juan and Bay Area rapper Yukmouth discussed the Donald Sterling controversy at length, both revealing that they don't believe the NBA should take the Clippers from Sterling, nor force him to sell. Yukmouth breaks down why:

"At the end of the day, that was a private recorded conversation. They had no right to take the team from him, period. You can say that he don't deserve to be at the head of operations or whatever...you can fine him. They didn't have to take the team from him."

Bishop Don Juan agrees, saying that a chick, no matter who she is, shouldn't be able to break down an empire:

"Here a side chick come in and wreck a whole NBA franchise...yeah I know her...but players got to know how to check their game."

Yukmouth argued that while it may be unreasonable for Sterling to remain head of the franchise, he should be able to pass it on to his family instead of being forced to sell.

Family Reunion? Beyonce Shares Pictures of Solange on IG (@solangeknowles, @beyonce)

With all the hoopla surrounding the Knowles-Carter clan, no one really expected any involved parties to speak up, and they haven't just yet. However, they have been using social media, namely Instagram, to get their points across.

Yesterday, Solange took to her IG account and deleted all recent pictures of big sis Beyonce. To most, this indicated that there is some kind of riff between the two. However, Beyonce has responded with her own IG gesture and recently uploaded 4 pics of sis Solange.

This is really the first "response" from Bey's side, as she was figuratively and literally in the middle of the Solange vs. Jay Z incident. However, Jay & Solange were also spotted browsing through a jewelry store yesterday (May 13th) in a pretty calm and friendly manner, so maybe all has been resolved while the onlookers are still speculating.

Magic Johnson Says He Will Pray for Donald Sterling (@MagicJohnson)

After Donald Sterling's bizarre interview with Anderson Cooper on Monday bashing Magic Johnson, the businessman spoke to Anderson Cooper about Sterling and why he will continue to pray for him.

According to CNN, the unbalanced Clippers owner slammed Johnson in his interview claiming that he was the reason why he didn't apologize for his racial comments sooner. He also said that Johnson doesn't do anything for the black community. Johnson claims Sterling wanted to use him during his Barbra Walters interview as a prop to prove that he wasn't racist.

"I said the number one thing you need to do which you haven't done is apologize to everybody, and myself," Johnson said. "(Sterling replied) 'I'll get to that. I'll get to that.'" Sterling opted out of the interview with Walters and spoke to CNN instead.

Johnson also says that he will continue to pray for Sterling and talked about his work in the African American community.

"It's sad. It really is. I'm going to pray for this ... man," he said. "My whole life is devoted to urban America. So, you know I just wish he knew the facts when he's talking, but he's a man who's upset and he's reaching. He's reaching. He's trying to find something that he can grab on to help him save his team. And it's not going to happen."

He also says that he never hid his HIV diagnosis from the public and says that Sterling's stereotypes are a big issue with the way some people view the virus.

"I came out like a man, you know, I told the world," he said. "I didn't blame nobody else. I understood that what I did was wrong ok, so I announced that to the world, and I hoped that I was able to help people in doing that, and I think I did. I hope this doesn't set us back. The stigma is still there. We know that. We've been fighting it for years, and what we want to continue to do is just educate the world that it's OK, that you can high-five a person who has HIV. It's OK. ... It's a shame that Donald used this platform with you, instead of using this platform to come out and apologize to the world, which would have been great."
