The BET Hip Hop Awards are highly known for their popular cyphers so it's no surprise fans had a lot to say about this year's participants.
Your Old Droog Delivers New Track 'Secondhand Gunsmoke'
The respected wordsmith Your Old Droog is back with a new song that further illustrates why he’s the freshest voice in rap right now. The Coney Island, N.Y., native’s new tune, ‘Secondhand Gunsmoke,’ is actually a remix of ‘Gunsmoke Cologne’ from the self-titled EP that started his buzz.
With producer J-Zone on the drums and writer-musician Sacha Jenkins on guitar, Droog spits a whole new verse that consists of braggadocios punchlines, shout outs to Shade 45 and several celebrity name drops (Pamela Anderson, Lil Fizz and Sinbad, among others).
“I’m not really as cocky as I sound / But you’ll be Shock by my G, I get around,” he raps. He then follows with, “After I’m done, my dru can get his / You already know what it is / But I’m not 17 / I’m not running a trizz / Groupies get passed down / But nobody can beat the wiz.”
We are still scratching our heads as to why Your Old Droog is not signed to a major label yet. Or maybe he’s going the independent route? One thing’s for sure, he needs to perform on our popular 16 Bars video series and show cats how it’s really done.
Listen to Your Old Droog’s smoking new track below.

Drake Leads the Pack With 8 BET Hip Hop Award Nominations (@drake @nickiminaj)
The 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards is definitely one of the most anticipated award shows within the culture, partially because of its annual cyphers which have become the source of several music debates over the years, but also as a way to award MCs that truly deserve recognition and are perhaps overlooked by other award shows.

Jhene Aiko Performs Acoustic Version of 'The Pressure' on 'Today' [VIDEO]
Jhene Aiko surely has an angelic voice and her ethereal vocals sound even better over an acoustic guitar, as she displayed Friday morning (Sept. 19) on the ‘Today’ show. The songstress sang ‘The Pressure,’ a song off her debut album, ‘Souled Out.’
With bare feet and dressed in all-white — she rocked a long flowing see-through skirt — the 26-year-old gave a flawless performance, as she sat on a stool and belted out every note perfectly. Her guitarist Jeff also played skillfully.
Aiko will be pretty busy in the coming months. Tonight she’ll be performing alongside the Weeknd and Schoolboy Q for the King of the Fall tour at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. She’ll then head to Toronto (Sept. 21), Los Angeles (Oct. 9) and San Francisco (Oct. 10) to finish the trek.
August Alsina Wakes From Three-Day Coma, Updates Fans With Photo
Days after August Alsina collapsed during a performance in New York, the ‘No Love’ singer is showcasing his recovery process with a photo he shared on his Instagram page.
Alsina, who’s currently in a New York City hospital, is pictured lying down in a bed after waking from a three-day coma. One of his friends is beside him, holding his hand.
“This is a bit graphic but i wanted to share this w/ every follower of mine. iWoke up out of a 3 day coma… &This guy @banggang_moneyteam right here never once left my side. What I’m tryna say is cherish the ones in life who cherish you & take good care of yourself. Your life can be gone in a split second’. I’m recovering well and thankyou for all of your prayers & concerns. -Yung,” the New Orleans native writes as the caption to the image.
On Sept. 15, the 22-year-old entertainer was performing during a stop on his Testimony tour when he passed out and fell off of the stage. Alsina was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The crooner was reportedly receiving treatment for multiple seizures he experienced in the ICU.
Although it looks like August might not have a clean bill of health yet, we’re glad to hear that he’s on the road to recovery.

G-Unit Deliver a Freestyle Over Nas' 'N.Y. State of Mind' [VIDEO]
G-Unit is still a thing heading into the later months of 2014. The lauded rap crew just released a new EP, ‘The Beauty of Independence,’ and are on the way to debuting their first album since 2008′s ‘TOS,’ so 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Yony Yayo and Kidd Kidd have been busy doing the press rounds as a result.
The members are presumably busy men and can’t all be present all the time, however. 50 Cent and Young Buck, the two who’ve been at the forefront of the revival, was absent for the crew’s recent visit to Baltimore’s 92 Q radio station.
They were unfortunate absences because the radio station played one of New York hip-hop’s greatest beats: ‘N.Y. State of Mind.’ Kidd Kidd, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo do well enough to make listeners forget about the missing members. Kidd Kidd arguably walks away with the best verse.
“Sorry mom, I never made it to the honor roll / But I see you’re looking good in your designer clothes,” he rhymes.
Check out the freestyle above. There should be more from G-Unit — including 50 Cent and Young Buck — on the way.
K. Michelle Gets Emotional Meeting Her Idol Mary J. Blige [VIDEO]
K. Michelle has a reputation for having a tough exterior and throwing shots if she feels crossed (remember her recent feelings toward Elle Varner?). But she also has a soft side. The singer demonstrated that when she finally met her idol, Mary J. Blige.
The ‘Love ‘Em All’ singer was visiting Power 105.1 this week for an interview with ‘The Breakfast Club’ when she saw Blige. After leaving what’s known as the “Hot Seat” at the station, K. Michelle almost had a childlike wonder when she saw Blige waiting to greet her in the lobby.
“You made me want to be a singer,” Michelle says in the clip, as she noticeably tries to hold back her emotion. “I thank you for everything. You are absolutely amazing.”
Blige humbly greeted Michelle and complemented her on her voice. The ladies shared a hug before Michelle walked away to get herself together.
