Beanie Sigel's Lung Removed During Surgery for Gunshot Wound
Beanie Sigel finally left the hospital on Monday (Jan. 5) after spending the past few weeks getting treated for a gunshot wound he received during an incident near a New Jersey home last month. While details on his health were scarce at the time of his release, the rapper’s current condition includes having a lung removed.
TMZ reports that Sigel’s lung was taken out while undergoing surgery. Doctors couldn’t save the organ because of the damage it sustained from the bullet fragments. While the shooter is still on the loose, Sigel will spend the next 90 days at Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation in Pomona, N.J. to learn how to function with one lung.
On Dec. 5, the MC, born Dwight grant, was shot in the torso during a physical altercation in Pleasantville, N.J., after he dropped his kids off at school. The former Roc-A-Fella rhymer, who wasn’t the intended target, was reported in critical condition as he was being treated for his wounds.
Apparently authorities do not have a suspect or leads in the case and family members are not cooperating. “The detectives have brought a lot of people in for questioning, but unfortunately no one’s talking,” said Rocky Melendez, Pleasantville Police Capt.
Sigel, 40, was released from prison in August 2014, just a few months before the shooting. The Philadelphia native spent two years behind bars for tax evasion.

New year, new tattoos. To celebrate their musical brotherhood, Rick Ross and Meek Mill decided to get some fresh ink for 2015.
Last week, the Maybach Music Group honcho and his artist visited Unroyal Ink in Farmingdale, N.J., and got tatted up by Ian.
Rozay had the Miami Heat logo tattooed on the side of his face and Meek’s Dreamchaser label insignia (with the king’s crown) on his hand.
The ‘I’ma Boss’ rhymer was inked with the Maybach Music Group logo on his hand. The Philly spitfire went on his Instagram account and posted the finished artwork.
“#DC x #MMG,” he wrote.
The tattoos solidify the two label owners’ unbreakable bond. It also means that we will most likely hear Meek Mill’s long-awaited second album, ‘Dreams Worth More Than Money,’ sometime in 2015. Last year, the album was delayed after the ‘Amen’ rapper was sentenced to five months in jail for violating his parole. Since his release, Meek has previewed a few songs from his upcoming album.

Cool C's Execution Scheduled This Week
Back in November, we shared news that Philadelphia rapper Cool C would be executed for his involvement in the death of a police officer during a bank robbery in 1996. The artist, who made his mark in hip-hop in the ’80s, will meet his end by lethal injection Thursday (Jan. 8).
Cool C, born Christoper Roney, was accused of attempting to rob a PNC bank with fellow Philly rapper Steady B. Roney was convicted on charges of first-degree murder for the shooting death, but the two have always maintained their innocence. During his trial, the rhymer’s mother said her son was at home making breakfast for himself and couldn’t have been involved in the botched robbery. However, he lost that trial and the decision was upheld when the case was brought to the Supreme Court in 2005.
For those who don’t know, the 45-year-old MC first stepped on to the scene with his Hilltop Hustlers crew back in 1987, and challenged a then very well-respected MC Shan on the song ‘Juice Crew Dis.’
From there, he inked a deal with Atlantic Records and released his signature cut, ‘The Glamorous Life,’ off the album, ‘I Gotta Habit.’ He went on to deliver a joint album, ‘Countin’ Endless Bank,’ in 1993, on Ruffhouse Records with his newly formed group C.E.B. Steady B and rapper Ultimate Eaze were also members of the short-lived group.
His execution was originally slated to occur in 2006, but he was granted a stay. Cool C, an entertainer whose lyrics once centered on the ability to “live the glamorous life,” won’t receive the same opportunity tomorrow.

Joey Bada$$ Switches Up His Flow on 'Teach Me' Featuring Kiesza
Ever since dropping the Lewis Parker-produced single ‘Hardknock’ a few years ago, Joey Bada$$ has been praised for his early ’90s flow. He was hailed as one of the saviors of East Coast hip-hop, a description he revealed he didn’t like.
This might be the reason he dropped ‘Teach Me,’ a song from his forthcoming album. ‘B4DA$$,’ slated to come out Jan. 20.
Featuring Canadian singer Kiesza, the cut is an uptempo dance record, on which the Pro Era MC drops a double-time flow over a beat that sounds more like club music than boom-bap hip-hop.
Plus, Joey suspends the complex rhymes and goes with more playful lyrics instead.
“Life’s like, just like a tango, tango / You gotta move that, move that, don’t break an ankle, ankle / Tell me if you see me, see me from your angle, angle / I’ll be your genie, genie, you be my angel, angel,” he spits, bouncing his voice around faint horns and sped-up drums.
‘Teach Me’ is an important record for the Brooklyn, N.Y. rapper because it not only proves that he’s versatile — straying from his usual East Coast rap sounds — but he doesn’t sound contrived or forced when playing in other genres.
Kiesza’s light, airy vocals give the effort a sort of pop-feel, which works well against the rapper’s deep vocals.

Joell Ortiz Watches a Relationship Crumble in 'Phone' Video
Be careful what you go searching for because what you find may have damaging results. That’s what Joell Ortiz conveys in his new video for ‘Phone,’ off his solid, but slept-on album ‘House Slippers,’ released in September 2014.
In the video, the Slaughterhouse member plays a fly on the wall as he observes a relationship falling apart between a couple, who have two children.
About midway through the clip, the male character searches through his girl’s phone and finds out that she’s been carrying on a secret affair, which he immediately confronts her about.
Then, a physical altercation ensues, but the jilted lovers see the kids crying and decide to leave the apartment. From there, things end up quite tragically.
Clearly, the director, A New Vision Film, went the literal route with the visuals and matched the scenes to the lyrics of the song perfectly. There’s also a very cool freeze effect used on the characters, which elevates the story-line and adds even more drama.
Joell smashes it on the lyrical side and creates a song very reminiscent of Eminem’s ‘Stan.’
“It don’t feel too good on the wake up, no breakfast cooking, you smell it’s in the breakup / Time just running by, while his heart is yelling, ‘Wait up’ / How they still together, but he praying that they make up,” raps the Brooklyn, N.Y. rapper on the Heatmakerz-produced track.
