Migos, Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug, Jermaine Dupri Rep ATL on 'New Atlanta'

It’s a huge honor when a respected veteran producer from your city asks you to remake one of his song as a way to officially pass the torch.

That’s exactly what producer Jermaine Dupri did when he tapped Migos for ‘New Atlanta,’ a remake of his 2002 hometown anthem ‘Welcome To Atlanta.’ The song also features fellow ATL comrades Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan.

Lyrically, everyone stays true to the game plan of letting people know what the Atlanta lifestyle is like for the current generation of hip-hoppers.

“I had the desire we startin’ empires Givenchy attire / I’m trappin’ they think I live in ‘The Wire’ / I had to flood out my new Audemars drop in the ghost / Scaring n—-s like Michael Myers / F—ing your bitch, pass her around like a flyer / All the little kids lookin’ at me admired,” raps Migos’ Offset, over a beat that uses the piano riff from the original version.

And besides maybe Future, Rich Home Quan is arguably the best person to sing an anthemic hook for the Dirty South. Plus, Dupri throws in a little rant that really brings the cut home.

“Motherf—ers hatin’ and s— / Motherf—ers still movin’ out here and s— / It’s still love in this motherf—er / And n—-s think this s— gonna stop / It ain’t never gonna stop,” yells the So So Def founder.

Producer Murda creates keyboard driven backing music for the vocalists to go in over, and all of them do a fine job of making the song sound uncluttered, which is not an easy feat considering there’s bunch of rapper swapping verses.

Let us know what you think of the song in the comments below.

Damon Dash Talks Jay Z + Solange Fight, Disses Steve Stoute

Former rap mogul Damon Dash clearly isn’t the quiet type, and doesn’t have a problem speaking his mind. During his interview with Hip-Hop Motivation, the Harlem native talked about everything from his past accomplishments, to Steve Stoute, to the infamous Jay Z and Solange elevator fight.

“I was laughing. The s— was funny,” he said. “I wouldn’t of handled it like that, but I just thought it was funny, cause, you know, Jay is the kind of guy that you don’t see him move like that. And when he does move, if ain’t that cool looking, then it’s going to be kicks.”

Dash also said he’s angry by the lack of unity among certain black business people. The Roc-a-Fella Records co-founder revealed that he tried many times to work with other music moguls to make a unified pact but to no avail.

In addition, he threw some verbal darts at former record executive Steve Stoute by calling him a “culture robber.”

“Black people never help each other. We never stick together,” Dash theorized. “We are the most retarded culture in the world for that. For some reason when black people get something, they think they can’t share with other black people, because that other black person is going to take it from them.”

“[Steve Stoute], he always break us up so he can bring us to get robbed,” he continued. “A guy like Steve Stoute will always take the people that are protecting the creative, and eliminate them so he can rob the creative. Just so he can get his money.”

Dash also said Stoute watered down the public images of Jay Z and Mary J. Blige, and made lots of money doing it.

It’s evident that Dash has a lot on his mind these days, and one could even say there’s a tone of resentment in some of his views. To watch his entire interview session watch the clips below:

A New Dawn: Twitter Goes In on Dawn Richard's "New Face"

Danity Kane's Dawn Richard recently shared a new selfie looking just a little different than she did in her MTV "Making The Band" days. Comparing photos, her nose is clearly more slender and she may or may not have had other work done.

While surgery is a personal decision every individual has the right to make, when one is in the public eye, there tends to be backlash, and this time is no different. Many tweeters had nothing but positive things to say, feeling there's nothing wrong with a little "self improvement." Others felt the difference is so blatant that Richard could not have expected the world to not notice and comment.

Nike Sportswear 'Sunset Pack'

Mita

Nike Sportswear brings us another theme for their line of sneakers. The “Sunset Pack” offers up five colorful silhouettes and while it doesn’t quite feel like the sunset it does offer a great take on a few favorites.

The Sunset Pack features a Nike Air Max 1, Nike Air Max 90, Nike Roshe Run Slip-On, Nike Roshe Run HYP and a Nike Free OG ’14. Each kicks play host to a patterned mesh fabric that at times is backed by suede depending on the silhouette.

Maybe the name “Sunset Pack” is more in reference to the vibrant colors on the shoes. The hues should keep you visible while your run during dusk.

Either way the hyper-toned sneaker pack are due in stores on May 31 at Japan’s mita sneakers.

Pharrell Williams Curates His First Art Exhibit in Paris [PHOTO]

Pharrell Williams hangs out with a lot of visual artists. So many that he put together an exhibit in Paris displaying all of their work called ‘G I R L’ and he’s thrilled to be curating it.

“I don’t have to have these opportunities, I don’t have to have this inspiration, and I don’t have to have the awareness that appreciation is like necessary,” Skateboard P told the Wall Street Journal. “But I’m glad that I do have those three things, so I express them repetitively.”

The exhibit, which was held last Monday (May 26), shows the work of Belgium’s Johan Creten, Japanese pop culture artist Takashi Murakami, and renown French street artist JR.

Williams says he’s become a devoted student of the art world. “It says ‘Curating by Pharrell Williams,’ but it should really be ‘The Education of Pharrell Williams,’” he states. “Because I’m just learning.”

The veteran producer’s love for the visual arts are well-documented, so it might surprise some that this is his first exhibit. The show has garnered some mixed reviews, however. Some European journalists have praised the artists’ works, while others believed it to be sexist.

All and all, the pieces looked dope and they have that Pharrell Williams-cool about them.

Common Returns with New Single 'Kingdom' Featuring Vince Staples

Common KingdomSoundcloud The ongoing street violence in Chicago has been well-documented in both film and music. Chi-City native Common brings his picturesque views of the harrowing street life on his new single, ‘Kingdom.’

It’s an empowering song with a choir sample (“Help me get, get the keys to the kingdom”), orchestral strings and a plodding beat.

In the first verse, Common recounts a hypothetical story of a young teen who seeks retaliation for the shooting death of his dear friend. Armed with a gun, he gets his revenge but, ultimately, his crime lands him in jail for murder.

“Shots ripping through the True Religion denim / These streets is my religion / I stood over him, his life was over then / Now these keys got me locked up with older men,” he raps.

In the second verse, Common explains why drugs are the biggest employers in the ghetto but, unfortunately, the health benefits are terrible.

“I was hurtin’, couldn’t get no work / You created me from dust, that’s why I did dirt / You said that the last shall be first / Now I’m in a hearse, what’s this cash really worth?” he rhymes.

Meanwhile, Vince Staples spits his testimonials about the struggles to survive on the mean streets of Long Beach, Calif.

“Satan serenading ever since I was a toddler / Tell him talk ain’t cheap, n—-s living for the dollar / So in God we trust, leads to prayers from my Momma tho,” he raps.

Overall, ‘Kingdom’ details the ongoing economic and social problems related to the ongoing violence in urban cities.

A video for the song was recently shot by Hype Williams and is expected to drop real soon.

In the meantime, Common is working on his next project ‘Nobody’s Smiling,’ which is being executive produced by No I.D.

According to reports, it’s a concept album inspired by the tragedies in Chicago. The collection is due to hit stores later this year

B.o.B Hustles For the Dough in 'All I Want' Video

Just because B.o.B has an artsy side it doesn’t mean he doesn’t like the dough. That’s what he’s saying on his latest track ‘All I Want,’ off his latest album, ‘Underground Luxury.’

On the song, produced by Rock City, the Atlanta rhymer tells the listeners that he needs money, wants it bad, and isn’t ashamed to admit it.

“Not a day goes by it ain’t on my mind / I ain’t gon’ front I ain’t gon’ lie / I rather have an M than an empty pocket / If hundreds ain’t in them, them jeans ain’t mine / I…that’s what I wan’t motherf—er / I’ll never be a bum motherf—er / You talkin’ about like it ain’t about the money / You just sound like a dumb motherf—er,” he spits.

The Dennis Liu-directed video shows Bobby Ray standing in front of a wall made of various currencies, as he sports an all-black-everything look, complete with a leather aviator jacket, matching hat, and tasteful jewelry.

The video also shows flashes of everyday people, suggesting everybody needs and wants money, regardless of their ethnic background. Later in the footage, B.o.B plays a street musician rapping for dollars, which symbolizes his desire to make money with his art, not just work for free. And we can all feel him on that.

50 Cent Talks About His Terrible First Pitch On 'Good Morning America' [VIDEO]

For a guy who rarely puts a foot wrong, 50 Cent suffered a bit of an embarrassment earlier this week. The Queens rapper had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at the Mets game on Tuesday (May 27), only it was the worst throw you’ll ever see. No, seriously — just look at this chart.

However, Fiddy was conveniently captured on camera throwing strikes in the warm up session before taking the field, leading to suggestions that he deliberately messed up the pitch in an effort to promote his upcoming album, ‘Animal Ambition,’ which drops next week. Desperate? Yes. Improbable? Not when it comes Curtis Jackson.

Well, the former G-Unit general appeared on ‘Good Morning America’ this morning to address his horrific opening pitch. “Oh no, no. It slipped, it slipped out of my hand,” he protested (with a wry smile no less) when asked if it was intentional. He then joked that it was Curtis, not 50 Cent, who threw the pitch.

Reveling in his embarrassment, 50 also revealed that he was pulled over by a cop this week, who told him just how bad his pitch was. “He pulled me over, I said, ‘I got my license, right,’ because I was a little nervous. I was like, ‘what I do?’ And then he said, ‘you know that pitch was terrible?’”

Following his interview, 50 took the stage at Central Park for ‘Good Morning America’s Summer Concert Series to perform early hits like ‘In Da Club’ and ‘Just a Lil Bit,’ as well as new material including ‘Smoke’ with Trey Songz and ‘Winners Circle’ with Joe. Watch it above.

Beastie Boys' Copyright Infringement Trial Against Monster Underway

Beastie BoysBrad Barket, Getty Images

The Beastie Boys was in court earlier this week as their lawsuit against Monster Beverage Corp. went to trial.

A jury heard the opening statements from both sides regarding the Beastie Boys’ claim that the energy drink company used their music without their permission as well as violated late member Adam “MCA” Yauch‘s will that stated, “Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, in no event may my image or name or any music or any artistic property created by me be used for advertising purposes.”

The suit focuses on a video that was produced for Ruckus in the Rockies, a snowboarding competition that Monster, along with other brands, organized in Canada. Following the event in 2012, the beverage company released a promo video on YouTube featuring the competition and after-party and included a remix of their songs ‘Sabatoge,’ ‘So What’cha Want’ and ‘Make Some Noise.’ The clip also included a sentence saying, “RIP MCA,” to honor Yauch.

While attorney Paul Garrity, who is representing the Beastie Boys in the case, claimed that Monster took away the group’s right to say no to the usage, Monster’s lawyer, Reid Kahn, contends that the Beastie Boys’ suit for $2 million is “illogical” and said that they should just settle for $125,000. Kahn acknowledges that Monster infringed on the copyrights but that it was an employee’s mistake.

From the looks of things, this may be one lengthy trial. But the Beastie Boys are no stranger to these types of lawsuits.

Last year, the group slapped toy company GoldieBlox with a lawsuit when it used the rap trio’s 1987 track, ‘Girls,’ in a video that went viral.

NBA Commissioner Says Sterling Ban Wasn't Personal

After banning longtime friend Donald Sterling from the NBA in April, NBA commissioner Adam Silver says there are no hard feelings on his end about the decision.

"On a personal level it was very difficult," he said to TMZ. "Its business and I think he understood that as well."

Silver made the call after Sterling was heard in a recording stating racist comments about African Americans. Silver also made it clear that he didn't want any members of the Sterling family in ownership of the Clippers.

It was reported Thursday that ex-Microsoft executive Steve Ballmer won the highest bid for the Clippers at $2 billion.

Kendrick Lamar Drops Half a Mill on Modest California Home (@kendricklamar, @topdawgent)

Compton's Kendrick Lamar has never been the flashy type. We rarely see him with icy chains, expensive cars or throwing money at chicks in the club. He's always had a humble aura about him, and that's ringing even more true with his latest and some would say most important purchase; his first home.

Lamar dropped about half a mill ($523,500 to be exact) on a modest 4-bedroom home in Eastvale, CA. Clocking in at an hour's drive outside of LA, he clearly chose to go the more discreet route instead of purchasing a beach home in Malibu or mansion in Bel Air.

The home is of decent size, coming in at roughly 7,800 square feet, but is a far cry from the typical rap "crib." His fellow Compton rapper Tyga reportedly purchased a 9,280-square-foot home in Cali's rich Calabasas neighborhood for a reported $6.5 million.
