Big Sean Pays Tribute to His Grandmother Who Passed Away [PHOTO]
This Christmas will undoubtedly be a somber one for Big Sean because his beloved grandmother passed away earlier this week.
The Detroit rapper paid tribute to her on his Instagram account to let his fans know.
“My grandma passed away a couple of days ago,” he wrote. “I haven’t said anything to anyone because honestly I feel like she’s still here.”
Sean also added that his grandmother broke a lot of racial barriers in her day, both in the academic world and in the military.
“I’m having a hard time accepting her death, but I must acknowledge my grandma’s life, a true hero,” he writes. “She was a black female captain in World War 2 (one of the 1st), got her degree at West Virginia State University, and her Masters degree at U of M. After school she became a police officer in Detroit. Then she became a caring teacher and counselor.”
The ‘Hall of Fame’ creator then goes on to say that his grandma was a huge supporter of his music career, even though he went against the grain of the family and chose a rap career over being a college student. He also thanked her for caring for the family, cooking Sunday meals, and being a wonderful inspiration.
Big Sean’s fans also offered encouraging words and support as well.
The Boombox want to send our heartfelt condolences to him and his family as well. May she rest in peace.
