Kendrick Lamar Hit With Lawsuit Over 'Keisha's Song (Her Pain)'
Kendrick Lamar has been slapped with a lawsuit over his 2011 song ‘Keisha’s Song (Her Pain)’ from his ‘Section.80′ album.
Woolfsongs Limited, a U.K. company that manages the works of Eric Woolfson and his group, The Alan Parsons Project, filed the suit in California federal court.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Woolfsongs Limited accuses Lamar of sampling the Alan Parsons Project’s song ‘Old and Wise’ without their permission.
The lawsuit states that both parties tried to settle out of court but were unsuccessful.
Woolfsongs Limited is seeking an injunction on the sale of the song and compensatory damages.
Lamar’s lawsuit follows behind gospel rapper Lecrae and Flame’s copyright-infringement case against Katy Perry. They believe that producer Max Martin, Juicy J and Perry have stolen their song ‘Joyful Noise’ for Perry’s No. 1 hit ‘Dark Horse.’
Attorneys for Katy Perry had no comment on the matter.
As for Lamar’s lawsuit, listen below to the Alan Parsons Project’s ‘Old and Wise’ and K.Dot’s ‘Keisha’s Song (Her Pain)’ and tell us what you think.
Do they have a case?

B.o.B Drops 'Swing My Way' Featuring Sevyn Streeter
A lot of hookups go down in the club, and for B.o.B it’s no different.
On his new song ‘Swing My Way,’ featuring Sevyn Streeter, Bobby Ray remakes K.P. & Envyi’s ’90s cut ‘Shorty Swing My Way,’ and adds some slick production as well as an updated groove. But he still keeps the high, energetic tempo of the song intact.
In the lyrics, the Atlanta rapper details meeting a beautiful woman who caught his eye during a night out. “I pull up to the spot, told the valet to leave it / Runned into a little cutie she look like Jennifer Freeman / A couple feet to my right I could see she was speaking / I couldn’t hear what she was saying cause the DJ was screaming,” B.o.B. raps.
The song will be on the 25-year-old’s forthcoming mixtape, ‘No Genre Pt.2,’ slated to be released on July 9. If this song is any indication of what the project will ultimately sound like, fans should be in for a solid offering.

Flavor Flav in Trouble With Las Vegas Police for Illegal Fireworks
Public Enemy hypeman Flavor Flav really wanted to ‘Bring the Noise’ during the July 4 holiday. For the second year in a row, he found himself in hot water with Las Vegas police for being in possession of a large amount of illegal fireworks.
According to TMZ, the 55-year-old entertainer had 1,000 pounds of fireworks, which were eventually confiscated by police. Flav also received two citations.
Last year, nearly the same thing happened to Flav when Vegas authorities showed up at his 2013 4th of July celebration, and removed $8,000 worth of firecrackers, along with other celebratory explosives. Also, police warned the Long Island, N.Y., native that he’d be arrested if he lit any of the fireworks. He wasn’t given a citation in that particular incident.
So far, Flav hasn’t made any comments about the police run-in, and no word yet how much each citation will cost him.

At one point, the RZA explains that the Wu-Tang Clan has inspired many of today’s technological advancements.
“Music inspires,” he said. “Over the years, I’ve met doctors, screenwriters, scientists and billionaires who have told me that Wu-Tang has inspired them to do certain things. One guy told me that the modem was invented listening to Wu-Tang.”
Uh, OK.
Finally, Nardwuar and the RZA wrap it up with a rapid-fire round of old-school rap history through vinyl records. Rap legends Spoonie G, the Fearless 4, the Force MD’s, the UMC’s, Mr. Magic and Divine Force are praised by the RZA in the discussion.

Erykah Badu Gives Rare Performance at 2014 Essence Music Festival [EXCLUSIVE]
Even in an industry based on image and visibility, there are some so uncomfortable with the rigid expectations of entertainment that they disappear for a spell only to return to the scene and put on a performance like they never left. On Sunday evening (July 6), at the 2014 Essence Music Festival, neo-soul chanteuse Erykah Badu did just that.
Incidentally, Badu was introduced by Dave Chappelle — another artist who’s recently resurfaced after things got to be too much for him to handle a few years ago during his so-called peak of success. “I’m back!” Chappelle said sharply, fighting back a grin before the singer graced the stage. “I’m like a phoenix rising from the ashes. But right now, I’d like to bring out a good friend of mine. One of the only artists I’ve ever toured with.”
The lights dimmed and Badu quietly padded over to her mic stand at center stage, staring solemnly into the crowd. Concertgoers wailed in anticipation. Finally, after about a full 90 seconds, she cleared her throat in the way kids do for attention. The crowd went quiet, then all that could be heard was Badu’s full voice belting the opening lyrics of her 2010 single ‘20 Feet Tall.’ The live band boomed behind her, following every swivel of her vocals with precision. Even when she moved into her first hit ‘On & On’ without as much as a signal to her fine-tuned background singers, they were a seamless set to take in.
The self-proclaimed “b-girl” inserted a clever freestyle into the refrain of ‘On & On,’ showcasing her creative rap skills on the fly. Then, abruptly, Badu stopped the music and posed this question: ‘Where the f— are all the people?’
While the upper levels were just about filled to capacity, the floor seats were only half-full and the audience couldn’t tell whether or not the songstress was serious or if she was suffering from some sort of ego trip. Her fans knew better though and snickered as they acknowledged the type of set Badu would be having.
All evening, she cracked jokes, cussed and teased. She taunted festival attendees with extended versions of riffs and breakdowns as she danced around in a baggy, patterned jumpsuit, hi-top Vandals and her current signature, the huge brimmed hat. Badu had a hair scarf tied underneath the hat and iridescent feathers tucked under the scarf, nearly giving the impression that she had facial tattoos — or something.
After the second song, she rushed, “Thank you New Orleans! Good night!” Then walked off. Again, one could almost feel the majority of the crowd blink in confusion. Badu bounded back to the mic. ‘”Sit,” she said, dragging the word, incredulous that some hadn’t warmed up to her stage personality by then.
The ‘New Amerykah’ creator jumped into ‘I Choose You,’ ‘Next Lifetime’ and ‘Apple Tree’ even implementing her newest passion — playing around with sounds onstage by way of an MPC beat machine. Then she dove into ‘Love of My Life’ with A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘Bonita Applebum’ incorporated into the beat. Her smooth vocals wrapped around each note making the songs sound even better than they had on wax.
And again, just as she had us wrapped around her finger and entranced, Badu made a move for stage left. “You know what? I’m tired of this s—. Good night New Orleans.” This time the crowd knew to play along and scream in protest. She came back to start ‘Tyrone,’ another fan favorite and stopped, squinting at the crowd. “I can’t see s—,” she said, even as the band repeated the ‘Tyrone’ refrain Badu went into an explanation..
“Look,” she started. “I came to a show this one time and asked people to stand up. They was like, ‘We already standing in this muhf—er!’”
Concertgoers howled as she continued, “I don’t even know how it happened. It was when I was 38. I just couldn’t see s— one day. So I went to the eye doctor and they gave me contacts. First thing I said when I went outside: ‘My car dirty….’” Again, the crowd hollered, laughing, waiting on either another impromptu joke or a song.
They didn’t have to wait long for Erykah to explain the motive behind her mischievous antics this particular evening. “This singing thing? It’s therapy for me,” she said grinning brightly. “I love and appreciate y’all in case I don’t get a chance to say it again.”
Finally she goes into ‘Didn’t Cha Know,’ and adds a gospel refrain, one smacking of Southern Baptist influence. Then she bowed to the cheers of the crowd, followed by a curtsy and a earnest “Thank you New Orleans.”
But she couldn’t help running back one last time to perform ‘Bag Lady,’ and those inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans — including the now-filled floor section — couldn’t have been happier.
YG Accuses "Fancy" Producers of Biting DJ Mustard's Style (@yg, @djmustard)
YG is proving himself to be a loyal collaborator to producer and friend DJ Mustard by calling out producers he feels are biting the LA beatmaker's sound.
The Compton native recently took a trip across the pond to pay a visit to Tim Westwood and dropped a freestyle where he called out London based trio The Invisible Men, who produced Iggy Azalea's smash single "Fancy," saying they "jocked" Mustard's style.
"And DJ Mustard, that ni**a producers is they jocking/ 'Fancy,' don't it sound like he produced that sh*t?"
Listen to the freestyle above. Do you think the "Fancy" beat is a little to close to the Mustard sound? Sound off below.

Solange Opens Up About Elevator Fight With Jay Z in Lucky Magazine Cover Story
Solange has been pretty mum about the infamous fight she had with Jay Z inside a hotel elevator in May. However, in the August issue of Lucky magazine, the 28-year-old singer opens up — sort of — about what happened that night.
Referring to the fight as “that thing,” she seemed to expect being asked about the scuffle she had with Jay in the elevator after the Met Gala in New York City.
“What’s important is that my family and I are all good,” she told the magazine. “What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that.”
The songstress looks simply chic on the cover of the shopping magazine, wearing sky blue pleated slacks and a white sweatshirt with colored embellishments. She gushed about all of her fashion phases including the time she went goth as well as the time she would rock sweaters and tights in the middle of the Houston heat.
She also referred to Kelly Rowland as “a sister” who encouraged her to record an album. “Kelly’s like a sister. When I let her hear my music, she said, ‘I want you to write for my album.’ That gave me a lot of confidence,” she told the magazine.
Solange also delved into her love of travel, dance and what she learned from her parents. “I think about all of those phases that I went through and the ridicule and whatever that I experienced,” she said. “And I can’t think of one time where I ever felt like I was going to break. That’s because I had confidence instilled in me by my parents. They didn’t always like it — in fact, most of the time they didn’t — but they never asked me to change.”
30 Years Ago: Ray Parker Jr. Releases 'Ghostbusters'
Thirty years ago, when the producers of the now-classic supernatural comedy ‘Ghostbusters’ were in the need for a catchy theme song for their nascent film, there was only one man they thought to call; Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. Luckily, when that fell through they reached out to Detroit’s own Ray Parker Jr., who went on to write one of the most recognized title themes in cinema history.
Parker spent his earliest years in the music business as a sideman and session musician for some of the biggest names in soul and funk including Barry White, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock. In 1977, he formed and fronted the group Raydio, which went on to become quite a successful outfit. Just one year after their formation, they scored a top-ten hit with the song ‘Jack and Jill.’
After spending four years in Raydio, Parker decided to break up the band and go it alone. In 1982 he hit it big again with his song, ‘The Other Woman’ from the album of the same name. The single raced up the charts topping out at number four and established the singer as a major player in the early ’80s music scene.
In 1984, the production team for the comedy ‘Ghostbusters’ were putting the final touches on their film and were casting about for someone to write the theme song. Their first thought, as alluded to above, was Lindsey Buckingham, who was friends with Harold Ramis, the co-writer of the movie as well as the actor portraying brainy Ghostbuster Egon Spengler in the film. However, Buckingham — who had already contributed the song ‘Holiday Road’ for the film ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ — was reluctant to get pegged as a soundtrack guy and turned them down.
With time running short, they turned to Parker, who agreed to take on the assignment. He soon discovered however, that what appeared to be an easy task from the outset was instead a much bigger challenge than he realized. As he mentioned in an interview with George Cole, “It sounds easy now because you’ve heard the song. But if somebody told you to write a song with the word ‘Ghostbusters’ in it, it’s pretty difficult. That was the hard part — getting the title in the song.”
Parker spent days trying to come up with a solution to this sticky situation, until either fate, some divine force or maybe even a metaphysical being intervened on his behalf. “I was dead, half-asleep — it’s about 4:30 in the morning — and a commercial comes on,” he recalled to mixonline. “They flash this phone number, and it reminded me of a spot in the movie where the Ghostbusters have their packs on and they show a phone number, like they’re advertising. And that was it! I came up with the idea of ‘Who you gonna call?’ And then I thought, there’s no way you’re going to sing ‘Ghostbusters’ in a song and make it sound good, so instead of singing it, I’d have a crowd answer me.”
After he turned it in, everyone agreed that it was a great song, but no one could have predicted the monster hit that it would become. “I like all my songs,” Parker stated. “But, obviously, the ‘Ghostbusters’ thing was so past being huge.” The subsequent music video featured Parker decked out as a ghost haunting a pretty young woman while some of the biggest stars of the day chant the song’s title.
Just a few months after its release, the single displaced the Prince track ‘When Doves Cry’ to take the top spot on the charts, where it remained for three consecutive weeks. It was even nominated for an Oscar, but lost out to Stevie Wonder’s mega-hit ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’ from the film ‘The Woman in Red.’
‘Ghostbusters’ would go on to sell millions of copies on its way to full platinum certification. It also spawned a number of well-regarded remixes and covers, with the most notable coming from Run D.M.C. for the film’s sequel.
As movie theme songs go, there aren’t many that have reached the rarified air of success that ‘Ghostbusters’ has. Thirty years later it’s still enjoyed by children and adults alike. Some genius even thought to release a special 30th anniversary edition of the single on glow in the dark, slime-colored vinyl this past Record Store Day. Unsurprisingly, it was a big success, sending ‘Ghostbusters’ back up the charts yet again.
Big K.R.I.T. Reveals Producers on 'Cadillactica' Album
There’s no denying Big K.R.I.T.‘s as talented behind the boards as he is on the mic, but if there’s one looming criticism of his work, it’s that it can sound, well, “samey.” Having entirely — if not largely — produced all of his projects so far, the Mississippi native is switching it up with his forthcoming sophomore album, ‘Cadillactica,’ and bringing a host of other premier producers on board.
During a recent interview with DJ Hyphen during KUBE’s Summer Jam in Seattle, Krizzle revealed that DJ Dahi, Terrace Martin and Jim Jonsin will be among those lending beats to his forthcoming LP. Although he’ll still be producing “65 percent” of the project, Krizzle believes his own production has improved after learning from said collaborators.
While he couldn’t say when ‘Cadillactica’ will be dropping, K.R.I.T. promises that “it’s gonna be still hot enough outside for you to ride around with your windows down and your top dropped” by the time it arrives.
Watch his full interview above.
Lil Wayne Sued for Failing to Pay Debt on Young Money Website
It’s a fight over one of the most famous names in hip-hop. YoungMoney.com, a company that helps young business people properly manage their funds, is threatening to take away Lil Wayne‘s Young Money website.
In 2011, the name was sold to Wayne and company for $600,000, since the money management firm had the domain first.
However, there was one condition. Wayne had to keep making payments until the debt was settled or he would forfeit the name entirely. According to TMZ, he failed to do that and owes $250,000 to the money management company. As a result, the lawsuit was filed.
We’ll see if Wayne pays up to keep the name, which serves as a destination to promote the roster of Young Money artists.
Your Old Droog Cooks Up Another Healthy Lyrical Meal With 'Free Turkey'
The secret’s out: Your Old Droog is not some gruff-voiced alter-ego of Nas. Although the cat was swiftly let out of the bag (if there was even a cat in the bag to begin with), the mysterious Coney Island, N.Y., MC has kept people talking. His latest track is proof why.
Taking cues from that one Pookie scene in ‘New Jack City,’ ‘Free Turkey’ offers a healthy serving of delicious — or disgusting, whichever way you look at it — bars that’ll leave your belly feeling bloated by the end of the first verse.
“I spread knowledge through hate and educate / You cater to the masses, the dumbasses,” he spits, just in case you were unsure about which side of the hip-hop fence Droog lies.
The song flips the Heath Brothers’ ‘Smilin’ Billy Suite Pt. II,’ which just so happens to be the same sample used by Nas on ‘One Love.’ That’s Droog’s way of throwing more fuel onto the fire of Internet conspiracies, all with a wry smile smeared across his face.
