Chris Brown's Los Angeles Performance Ends in Stabbing

Chris BrownLarry Busacca, Getty Images

Chris Brown has been working hard to stay out of trouble but the bad news just keeps on surrounding him.

According to TMZ, a clubgoer was stabbed on Monday (Sept. 22) following Breezy’s performance at the Supperclub in Los Angeles.

Authorities believed that the stabbing was related to the singer’s entourage. No word on how the altercation started or who committed the violent act. The victim was rushed to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Despite hundred of patrons at the club, no arrests were made and police have no eyewitnesses.

TMZ also reports that the Los Angeles Police Department have been quietly trying to ban Brown from performing in nightclubs because of incidents like this. They claim that violence always seems to break out when he and his entourage are around.

“When Brown and his people show, we know what’s going to happen,” one anonymous law enforcement source told the gossip website. “It’s a headache for us.”

If you recall, former rap mogul Suge Knight was shot several times at a Chris Brown-hosted pre-VMAs party at 1OAK nightclub in August. That case remains unsolved as well.

Chris Brown vs. Eric Bellinger — The Boombox Battle

Chris Brown Eric BellingerTHe Boombox

Chris Brown takes the win in this week’s Boombox Battle against August Alsina. With more than 72 percent of the votes, Team Breezy helped the singer come out on top.

The ‘X’ creator’s new song, ‘Autumn Leaves,’ features Kendrick Lamar, who speeds through his verse in a breathy and lighter voice. Brown sings about a relationship that isn’t working out. Using natural metaphors in his lyrics, he sounds emotional over the synthy R&B melody.

“I’ve been bleeding in your silence / I feel safer in your violence / I hold on like leaves and fall to what is left / Before I sleep I talk to God / He must be mad with me, it’s coming / I’m confused who’ll I’ll spend my forever with,” Chris sings on the second verse.

This week, Eric Bellinger‘s ‘Awkward’ goes up against Brown. Featuring Game on the track, the singer tells a former flame that she just needs to move on with her life. Not only does he tell her that things are awkward, he pushes her to stop contacting his friends and family.

“Yeah, why you still texting my mama? / You can let it go, she ain’t calling back / Why you still tryna start drama? / We ain’t even together, where they do that at,” he sings in the first verse.

Who will win this week? Will it be Chris Brown’s song about a relationship that’s falling apart? Or Eric Bellinger’s track telling his ex to stop blowing up his phone? Only you can decide. Vote for your favorite artist’s song once per hour until the polls shut down on Tues., Sept. 30, at 10AM ET.

Two artists and their respective songs compete against each other each week. The triumphant artist goes on to compete in the next The Boombox Battle. If an artist wins The Boombox Battle four times consecutively, their song will be honored in The Boombox Battle Hall of Fame.

Nike Air Huarache – Cargo Khaki / White

Foot Patrol

The Nike Air Huarache releases haven’t stopped yet and we are absolutely ecstatic to see yet another ill version of the runner surface. This time the ladies are shown some love with an absolutely gorgeous new colorway.

Cargo khaki doesn’t really sound that exciting however when you factor in the pebbled leather upper things get more than interesting. Glossy panels pop up on the side and toe while the other portions of the shoe don’t sport as heavy of a sheen. All of this is met with a tonal neoprene tongue and ankle for the signature comfortable fit.

Men don’t get too jealous because we’ve seen several fly colorways made specifically for you release this year. It’s high time that the ladies got a little shine, besides you can always size up if you just have to have em.

Is Apple Trying to Sink Beats Music?

Chelsea Lauren, Getty Images

Beats Music may be no longer with Apple now controlling the streaming service.

According to TechCrunch, Apple is shutting down the service, which officially launched in January. However, Apple claims the initial report to discontinue Beats Music “is not true.” The company did not provide any further explanation on the subject. Despite the retort, it’s possible that Beats Music may perform in a different capacity.

The subscription-based streaming service has struggled since its January launch. Beats Music earned only 250,000 users by the spring while Spotify’s subscription base is 40 times that number.

Apple hasn’t really been pushing Beats Music all that much either. It’s not included in the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, and the service was an afterthought during Apple’s conference on Sept. 9. The overall silence surrounding Beats Music — an operation that had $60 million behind it — predicts a shaky future for the service.

The developments do not affect the hugely successful headphone line Beats by Dre.

Why You Should Listen to Highly Anticipated Albums From Jennifer Hudson, Bishop Nehru and Luke James

Bishop Nehru Jennifer Hudson Luke JamesKevin Winter / Michael Loccisan / Thos Robinson, Getty Images

The most anticipated albums this week come from artists from all ends of the spectrum.

Jennifer Hudson and Luke James‘ respective projects got hit with numerous delays, but the day has finally arrived when both unveil some of their most personal work for the masses to hear. Perhaps the biggest deal about these two albums is that they argue that a more traditional take on R&B is still viable in today’s musical landscape.

While veteran JHud and rising star Luke James have R&B covered, hip-hop fans will be satisfied with Bishop Nehru and DOOM‘s collaboration, ‘NehruvianDOOM.’ Unlike ‘Madvillainy 2,’ this project actually exists.

These albums from Jennifer Hudson, Luke James and Bishop Nehru are what you should be listening to next.

It's funny how what happened 10 years ago doesn't seem like that big of a deal now. That was when Jennifer Hudson got voted out from the Top 7 on 'American Idol,' a crime so unjustifiable and outrageous that it led Elton John to cry racism. The joke is on America, because she's one of the most famous contestants to arise from the show. In fact, she's now more relevant than the reality singing competition as she releases her third studio album. 'JHUD' is a throwback to the brassy sounds of '60s and '70s era R&B. The songstress just isn't bowing at the altar of the genre's queens, though. Her charisma and powerful vocals make those links to Chaka Khan and Aretha Franklin far clearer than instrumental similarities can.

5 Reasons to Listen to Jennifer Hudson's 'JHUD'

1. Three years have passed since she released her last album, 'I Remember Me.'

2. This project represents all things JHud. "It’s different expressions of me as an artist, a girl, a music lover,” Hudson revealed.

3. The singer was hit with rumors of her Illuminati affiliation in the months leading up to this album. Of course, she slammed them saying that she was a Christian woman.

4. 'JHUD' is her only LP without a Hot 100 hit before its release. That's not to say the singles aren't high quality, though. Listen to find out.

5. 'Moan,' a song featured on the album, is in memory of her mother. She was tragically shot to death in a double murder in 2008.

Luke James got some shine when he opened for Beyonce during her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour but the crooner is shining solo here. He proves that with his past releases -- James is talented enough to make his own path. Like Jhene Aiko with her debut LP, he's going to try to hold together the project by himself with help from Rick Ross on one track.

5 Reasons to Listen to Luke James' Self-Titled Album

1. The singer is convincing when it comes to the emotion he puts forth in his lyrics. That's could very well be due to his skills. He made his feature film debut before debuting this album, starring in three prior films, including last year's 'Black Nativity.'

2. Although this is his first album, Luke James has actually been in the game for quite some time. He was once part of an R&B duo named Luke & Q. They disbanded after not gaining much recognition.

3. Producers like Saalam Remi, the Alliance and Danja assist with their production talents.

4. If you like 2011's 'I Want You,' a cut off James' mixtape, '#Luke,' then this is the project for you. He spoke to The BoomBox about what inspired the track: "I was a dirtbag and I had an epiphany and I realized that this girl that I had been treating bad or just not giving her what she needed, I realized I really wanted to give her what she needs and love her and want to be with her."

5. Although he doesn't have a credit on 'X,' James has had success songwriting for Chris Brown. One example is 2011's 'Crawl.'

Bishop Nehru has received props from the likes of Nas and Kendrick Lamar and a co-sign from the notoriously reclusive DOOM. So what is it about the rapper that compelled DOOM to work with him? To put it simply, Bishop Nehru has the style and talent hip-hop classicists love. The announcement of 'NehruvianDOOM' came with a tinge of worry though. 'Madvilliany 2' still hasn't dropped despite claims that it's almost done, so there was a chance this collaboration would end up in constant limbo, too. But 'NehruvianDOOM' is here, and what's a reemergence for one rhymer is a huge career leap for the other.

5 Reasons to Listen to Bishop Nehru's 'NehruvianDoom'

1. Bishop Nehru and DOOM met up when the former was in the U.K. for a Wu-Tang concert.

2. Despite the difference in experience, Bishop Nehru described the creative process as "synchronicity."

3. 'The Boondocks,' one of Bishop Nehru's favorite shows, was partly responsible for exposing him to DOOM's music. 'Strange Ways' was featured in one episode.

4. The New York native was weeks away from turning 17 when 'NehruvianDOOM' was announced. DOOM was 17 when KMD, his first rap group, formed.

5. The two MCs derive their names off fictional characters. "Bishop" comes after Tupac Shakur's character on 'Juice,' while "DOOM" is inspired by the Fantastic Four's masked arch-nemesis.

Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Tyga and More Play in Power 106 Basketball Game [VIDEO]

Some of your favorite artists pull double duty as athletes. They may not be regulars on the court, but they certainly do have the skills to sink a three-point shot with ease.

Chris Brown, Sage the Gemini, Game, Trey Songz and Tyga were just a few of the rappers and singers showcasing their ability to play hoops during a celebrity basketball game held by Power 106 in Los Angeles on Sunday (Sept. 21).

Their performance? Meh. The main highlight of the event was Trey Songz getting his ankles destroyed And1 style with a crossover. Brown probably didn’t get caught that badly, but his pedestrian basketball skills have been documented.

Musical talent was also on display. Jasmine V and Tinashe performed their songs, ‘That’s Me Right There’ and ‘Pretend,’ respectively, before Arianna Grande performed ‘This Way’ and ‘Problem’ at halftime. Check out the ladies’ performance below.

Kendrick Lamar Debuts Isley Brothers-Sampled New Song 'i'

Interscope

The wait is finally over. Kendrick Lamar unveils his new song, ‘i,’ nearly two years after releasing his debut album, ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city.’

Although we’ve been hearing the California-bred rapper’s contributions on other artists’ tracks as of late, ‘i’ is the first song to come from his forthcoming sophomore album.

Produced by Rahki and mixed by Ali, the song is a different one — light and bouncy on the beat. This is all thanks to the Isley Brothers’ ’70s classic ‘That Lady,’ which is sampled in the song. Aside from the sound elements, the bulk of the track is also very positive.

“We got a young brother who believes in all of us,” a reverend preaches at the top of the track. “Brother Kendrick Lamar / He’s not a rapper / He’s a writer / He’s a lover / If you read in between the lines / We’ll learn to love one another.”

Kendrick experiments with various rapping speeds and styles, but the idea of self-love is the one constant throughout the track. With “I love myself” as the track’s hook, this is one that can easily bring up anyone who’s feeling down.

“Dreams are reality’s peace / Blow steam in the face of the beast / The sky can fall down / The wind can cry down / The strong in me / I still smile,” he delivers.

Now that ‘i’ is finally out, hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for more details on Kendrick’s highly anticipated new album.
