Meek Mill Goes on Twitter Rant Against His Philly Haters (@MeekMill)

Meek Mill didn't respond well to his native Philadelphians' views of him due to his indirect ties to the Slowbucks' chain grabbing incident.

After exchanging words with his artist Louie V Gutta on Twitter about the incident, another associate shared his thoughts on the rapper.

"Meek really the clown in all this," Twitter user Demynu said.

Meek replied with, "I don't really know why y'all think y'all can mention my name in these ways...when we run into each other don't change!"

He also went into a full rant about the lack of support he receives from his hometown, and mentioned an earlier incident that resulted in a local Philly rapper taking him to court.

"Niggas b cold p**** talking on these joints ..... Just know meek mill and them gone b around.... Twitter different than real life!" he said.

The rapper plans to make an appearance in his hometown Friday.

Tyga and Young Thug Head to the Jungle in 'Hookah' Video

Rapper Tyga just released the visuals for his new single, ‘Hookah,’ which will appear on his upcoming project, ‘The Gold Album.’

In the clip, the YMCMB artist occupies a spacious home that’s designed like a jungle. The place is full of green landscapes, plant life and palm trees. Oh, and there are plenty of bodacious women in bikinis walking around on the property. We guess they’re the jungle babes.

A dapper Young Thug is also featured in the clip, delivering boastful lines while dressed in a snazzy red suit.

Much like the title suggests, everyone is smoking hookah and partying to the infectious beat provided by DJ Mustard. Even an elephant gets the crowd hype while the music plays on.

Directed by Tyga himself, ‘Hookah’ is a colorful video with plenty of eye candy and, uh, smoke.

A$AP Mob Show Off on 'Hella Hoes'

Money, hoes and clothes. This perennial rapper mantra inspires A$AP Mob‘s new single, ‘Hella Hoes.’

The crew — Rocky, Ferg, Nast and Twelvyy — show off with lyrics centered on their sexual prowess, all over an ominous beat.

“Uh, pretty mothaf—a, pull up in this bitch like / Uh, jiggy mothaf—a, hella hoes on my d— like / Uh, really with the s—, if a n—- trip, loading up the clip / Never slip, tight, never sleep, finna let it rip in this bitch,” Rocky raps.

‘Hella Hoes’ is from the group’s forthcoming ‘L.O.R.D.’ album.

Sneaker of the Week: Nike Air Max 93

Sneakers.fr

The ’90s are considered a golden era for a million reasons and one of them is definitely the Nike Air Max 93. This summer, it looks like we’ll get to relive that heyday as the sneaker will be released soon. In the meantime, it’s officially our Sneaker of the Week.

The Nike Air Max 93 mixes the form-fitting neoprene vibes of the Nike Huarache line with the road-tested running qualities of the Nike Air Max family. Seen here in two colorways, the sneaker is set to be released in suede and mesh with hits of nubuck snaking its way across the heel.

It’s gonna be hard to pick when these do finally hit shelves and while we don’t know exactly when that is, we’re halfway tempted to start lining up at Nike retailers now. It’s going to be a hot summer indeed when it comes to sneakers.

This or That? YG vs. YZ

There are tons of different ways to help your community, if you’re so inclined. Rappers might not seem like the most charitable people, but many of them have visions that extend beyond themselves — to their family members, neighbors, friends and even strangers. Sometimes they scorn the glitzy route in favor of more relatable personalities — hence “underground” rappers like Talib Kweli and MF DOOM. Others take the Robin Hood route by getting rich and giving back, because that’s a win-win. Very often, they’re about much more than money, cars and clothes – they strive for individual and collective empowerment, either through financial or intellectual means.

YG goes for self. Born in Compton, Calif., — an area in which the name alone is a signifier of crime and desolation — he was surrounded by gangsters and quickly became initiated. On his major label debut, ‘My Krazy Life,’ he replaces the letter “C” with the letter “B” on ‘Bicken Back Bein’ Bool,’ in case you doubted his Blood affiliation. In fact, the album as a whole deals with his life as a gangbanger, tracing a path that goes from parties to house robberies to, finally, prison.

The album’s sound is pioneered by the West Coast hitmaker DJ Mustard with songs you’ve surely heard by now — ‘Who Do You Love,’ ‘My N—-’ and ‘Left, Right,’ to name a few. It’s hands down one of the best albums of the year, shaking with intensity while stretching its replay value into the summer, where it’ll continue to dominate airwaves and barbecues.

Yet for all of the hit singles, ‘My Krazy Life’ is colored with a darkness that’s never too far from the surface. He kills without hesitation and robs surrounding cribs until the end of track 12, when the cops corner him and he’s arrested. The fun is over. Pain quickly sets in on ‘Thank God,’ an interlude that was actually recorded by Ty Dolla $ign’s incarcerated brother in his prison cell. The album closes with ‘Sorry Momma,’ by far one of the most heartbreaking rap songs of the year. YG is filled with regret as he ends the album with a somber look in the mirror. Who was he really helping with a life of crime? Did he make the right decisions? Did he have any other choice?

Twenty-five years ago, he might have faced the same societal obstructions that many black youths are burdened with, but he also might have taken a different musical route. Born in New Jersey, YZ wasn’t down with all that gat busting — as a rapper affiliated with both X-Clan and Poor Righteous Teachers, he predicated his approach on peace and knowledge instead of violence (though he does say he’s got the 12 gauge if you want to test him).

His first single in 1989 was ‘In Control of Things,’ a classic record produced by the prolific Tony D, who helmed the early works of the Poor Righteous Teachers. Its message is vastly different from that of the reckless ‘My Krazy Life’ — YZ has the ability to direct his own life, and he’s fueled by “wise words that are spiritual.” Like Lakim Shabazz and DJ Mark the 45 King, Tony D and YZ, collectively known as Two Tone Productions (thanks to Tony being white), crafted the classic 1990 LP, ‘Sons of the Father,’ and released it on the independent label Tuff City. A year later, he followed it up with the six-track ‘YZ EP.’

Just to be clear, YZ wasn’t above using force. In an interview with Andrew Nosnitsky, he discussed a past beef with Treach of Naughty By Nature. Treach had approached him at a Hyatt hotel during the Jack the Rapper convention in Atlanta, and flanked by goons (sorry Apache), the fellow New Jersey native seemed ready to start something. YZ recalls unzipping a bag that had his gun in it and was prepared to use it, but things never came to a head. Nonetheless, you don’t hear him flaunt pistols in many verses on his first album. He wasn’t above petty crime — as a kid he ran with a crew who would shoplift and start fights — but by 9 years old, he was writing his own songs and getting his head right. He was in his late teens when his debut album dropped.

By the age of 20, he’d gotten into beef with Tony D and Wise Intellect of Poor Righteous Teachers, claiming that Tony D was giving his songs to PRT and lending them a sound similar to the music YZ was making. He started his own label, Diversity Records, and moved to New York City to work with artists like Urban Thermo Dynamics (Mos Def’s first group), 8-Off the Assassin (better known now as Agallah), and Legion of D.U.M.E. alongside the legendary Loud Records A&R Schott Free.

For whatever reason, YZ continued to experience friction with the artists he had signed and decided to move to Atlanta, leaving most of the label operations in the hands of one Peewee Kirkland, known more for his basketball skills than his managerial prowess in the music industry. He had released a sophomore album in 1993, ‘The Ghetto’s Been Good to Me,’ on Livin’ Large, a subsidiary of Tommy Boy, but after that, he disappeared until 2002, when he dropped another album, ‘The Legend of Floyd Jones.’

YG and YZ are not, at their core, all that different. Both felt the need to get in a booth and record music. Both gained loyal followings, through either mixtapes or singles (Marley Marl’s WBLS radio show would eventually use a YZ track for a theme song). They both knew violence could be necessary at any given time, but they also wanted to achieve something outside of themselves, if not in their personal lives in the art they broadcast for the world to hear.

YG’s album will be one of the best of 2014, and YZ will be largely forgotten (unfortunately, he already is by most), but they both share the privilege of blessing the ears of those that listen closely. Play their music today. Turn up, turn down, do whatever you want, but just turn it on. We’re lucky to have them.

Migos: 2 Chainz Shouldn't be Calling Us Out on our Flow (@2chainz)

On the 2 Chainz track "Trap Back," the ATL rapper has a line where he in essesnse explains the roots of the signiture, bouncy-style flow of Migos, saying it comes from Three-6-Mafia: "Look at my car, how did it get on dem sixes/ This flow come from Drizzy, he got it from Migos, they got it from Three 6."

Migos shared with MTV News that they felt 2 Chainz was calling them out, and that as an "OG" he should instead be reaching out to them:

"And just mentioning the Migos' name as a supposed to be OG in the game, we feel like you're supposed to be giving us [knowledge] or acknowledge us instead of doing that," Offset said. "We [don't even] got a song with you. So, that ain't how we rock though. We just don't rock like that."

They also hit up Twitter and called out 2 Chainz by his legal name, Tauheed Epps. Peep the tweets above.

It’s almost like you can’t own a sneaker shop these days without having your own colorway and the next in line to further cement their authenticity is Philadelphia’s VILLA courtesy of adidas.

The retail store chose to take the adidas Originals Top Ten and give it a decidedly patriotic spin with a red leather upper accented by hits of blue and white. These are just about as patriotic as you can get without going literal and would be a great choice for any occasion that requires red and blue.

In true first look fashion, no release date has been set for this pair but a creeping suspicion on our behalf tells us that they will be on shelves, if not sold out, by July.

Chris Brown Celebrates Freedom, Returns to Instagram [PHOTOS]

Chris Brown celebrated his newfound freedom with a big party at a private residence in Los Angeles on Thursday (June 5).

After being released from prison earlier this week, Breezy’s girlfriend Karrueche Tran treated the singer to a party in his honor with guests T-Pain, Amber Rose, Big Sean, Tyga and Akon in attendance.

According to E! Online, Tran led a blindfolded Brown into the event and when she untied him, the guest erupted into cheers.

“The music is low, it’s more like a BBQ than a party, food is on the grill,” an eyewitness at the party told the website. Brown “seems very happy.”

The crooner was dressed head-to-toe in camouflage with Air Jordan 6 Championship “Cigar” kicks on his feet. The 25-year-old definitely gained some weight during his prison stint. His hair is noticeably longer and he has grown out his facial hair.

Later that night, Brown returned to Instagram for the first time in about a month. The ‘Loyal’ singer posted a picture of himself wearing a hat and his trimmed beard.

Tran also posted several photos from the party on her Instagram. Check them out below.

Iggy Azalea Scores Billboard Magazine Cover

Iggy AzaleaTwitter

With a wealth of interviews and TV appearances popping up, it seems that Iggy Azalea is all over the place these days. As her ubiquitous presence continues, she’s scored the cover of Billboard magazine, which makes perfect sense.

Chart-wise, the Australian lyricist has dominated — she even broke a 50-year-old record by having two songs in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions on the Billboard Hot 100. Her song ‘Fancy,’ featuring Charli XCX, hit No. 1, and Ariana Grande’s ‘Problems,’ on which she’s featured, scored the No. 2 position at the same time. That feat hasn’t been accomplished since the Beatles in 1964.

On the cover, the blonde beauty sports a multicolored bejeweled top, which shows off her toned frame. She gives a deep stare into the camera while her hands clutch her hips. ‘The New Classic’ creator not only looks ultra sexy, but she clearly exudes a look of confidence, making the cover shot really stand out.

And it seems Iggy is pretty excited too, as she posted the cover on her Instagram account. “Hey guys, I’m on the cover of Billboard,” she wrote. “Thanks for all the support. Never really saw this being possible and here we are. I appreciate it very much.”

The Billboard photo was just posted on Instagram yesterday (June 5), but it already has a whopping 296,000 likes, proving just how admired the Hustle Gang affiliate is.

By landing on the highly coveted cover and having two simultaneously chart-topping singles, as well as a top 10 album, this could very well be the summer of Iggy Azalea. At least that’s the way it’s shaping up so far.

Reebok Inferno 'Tonal Mesh Pack' – Blue

Caliroots

The Reebok Inferno being cast in a nearly full mesh upper serves as an oxymoron of sorts as its designed to specifically keep your foot from being hot. Well, at least in the literal sense of the word.

Figuratively, this is certainly one hot sneaker as it casts the classic retro runner in suede and mesh for a high dosage of comfort and breathability. The tonality is broken up a bit by the white midsole but bits of blue still find their way in as well to bring the theme full circle.

These are available now at select Reebok retailers including Caliroots. The store has them in a few other colorways as well. Hit that currency converter and keep cool this summer in a pair of Infernos!

Funkmaster Flex Blasts Damon Dash for Selling Out, Not Paying Artists

Flex and Damon DashChad Buchanan/Theo Wargo, Getty Images

After being dissed by Damon Dash earlier this week for defending “culture vultures,” Hot 97′s Funkmaster Flex responds with some very choice words. Flex hit the airwaves last night (June 5) to blast Dash as a sell out who never paid his own artists.

In his rant, Flex claims that Dash is washed up and out of touch with hip-hop. “Right now, stick to artwork and clothing and slippers,” he said. “Do that. That’s all you. That’s your lane. Let me do this music thing up here. I got this. Roc-A-Fella didn’t give me any money to play nothin’, always had paper. Nice try!”

Flex went on to claim that it was “culture vultures” like Def Jam Records who helped propel Dash and his then-artist Jay Z in the first place. “[Jay Z's] ‘Ain’t No’ with Foxy Brown woulda died out here if Def Jam didn’t pick it up… Remember when the culture vulture cut you that check? I’m tellin’ you what this is ’cause I been in the game and a lot of people can’t comment on this and that’s what this cornball is banking on. If that didn’t get picked up by Def Jam you woulda been Boo Boo Records, OK?”

The DJ continued, saying that Dash, despite claiming to rep indie artists, had yet to pay his own roster like rappers Curren$y and Beanie Sigel. “When you gonna give Beans his $11 million for ‘State Property’ that you didn’t give him yet?” he asked. “Is that a culture vulture? You did it to yourself. He had another label deal after the Roc and he signed Curren$y. Curren$y put out two albums. You didn’t pay Currren$y on one song, B. Who’s the culture vulture? You didn’t pay him cause you didn’t see how digital he was. You didn’t have a computer. You were in a slipper, art coma.”

Curren$y appeared to cosign the remark on Twitter with “yeeee hahahaha.”

TLC Bash Rihanna for Nudity, Singer Fires Back with Racy Photo

Rihanna is known for her risque fashion choices, but not everyone is feeling the singer’s racy style. During an interview with Australia’s Channel 7′s ‘Sunrise’ program, TLC‘s Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas slammed RiRi for her revealing outfits.

“Every time I see you, you don’t have to be naked,” said T-Boz. “It’s easy to sell sex.”

“It’s hard for us to say anything because any time we do, they say, ‘Oh, TLC must be jealous,’ but I call a spade a spade,” she continued. “We became the biggest-selling girl group of all time with our clothes on and that says a lot. We could go around too with booby cakes [breasts] out all day long.”

In response, Rihanna changed her Twitter header to a photo of TLC, in which T-Boz and Chilli are topless. The image appeared in the group’s 1994 VIBE magazine cover story. The Bajan singer then followed that with a series of subliminal tweets.

Meanwhile, T-Boz doesn’t seem to know or care about the brouhaha she caused regarding her — alleged? — comments about Rihanna.

“Last time I checked I didn’t say no bodies name the interview lady did s— I’m out of the country lol I didn’t even see pics,” she tweeted.

Nicki Minaj Teases 'Pills N Potions' Video with The Game

Nicki Minaj experiments with a new sound on her new song ‘Pills N Potions,’ and by the looks of it, the rapper is trying on a new look for the single’s forthcoming music video.

In a sneak peek of the music video, Nicki rocks the more natural look she’s been wearing as of late. She trades in her signature wigs and colorful attire for a more subdued, but beautiful palette. Computer-generated graphics accompany the visual, including bunnies dispensing pills and a cascade of silver tears. Rapper the Game serves as her shirtless co-star in the visual.

“I wanted to marry my old energy with a new sound,” Nicki explained to ‘Good Morning America,’ while sharing the clip. “It’s very emotional.”

‘Pills N Potions’ is from the Queens, N.Y., native’s new album ‘The Pinkprint.’ She reassured fans that the effort will be out this year and though she has a release date in mind, she wants to keep it hush-hush for now. “I want people to absorb the singles as they come out and I don’t want them to rush the excitement.”

Usher Covers Nylon Guys, Addresses Justin Bieber's Troubles

Usher Nylon GuysNylon Guys

Usher graces the cover of the July 2014 issue of Nylon Guys magazine. In the mag, the R&B star addresses Justin Bieber’s long list of troubles within the past year.

As a coach on ‘The Voice,’ the veteran crooner has helped contestants reach their full potential on the show. But recently, Usher has been dealing with problems regarding Bieber, someone he’s been mentoring since discovering him on YouTube. The pop star’s career is under scrutiny after videos leaked online of him using the N-word several times.

In an interview with Nylon Guys, Usher admits that it’s been tough to see and hear some of the troubles Bieber is facing in his life.

“I gave every bit of advice and always told him it was up to him if her really wanted this. Now that he has it, as an adult, it’s his to manage,” he told Nylon magazine (quotes via ABC News). “Do I turn my head in shame based off of what I see, what I know? Nah, I don’t because it’s all part of life’s process. Am I in it with him? Yeah.”

Although Bieber has since apologized for the crude videos, the scandal has tarnished his image and, possibly, his career.

“It’s unfortunate. I hate some of the things I hear. Is it all true? I don’t know,” Usher tells the mag. “But I will tell you this: Success comes with a price. Every person that has grown up, grows through something. It ain’t just perfect from the beginning.”

The 34-year-old singer talks about a myriad of topics including how he deals with fans’ criticisms of his music and being mentored by Diddy at a young age.

Nylon Guys’ July 2014 issue, with Usher on the cover, will arrive on newsstands next week.

Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart Split

Jennifer Lopez Casper SmartJason Merritt, Getty Images

Although Jennifer Lopez is singing about her ‘First Love,’ it appears that her love for boyfriend Casper Smart is over. After two-and-a-half years of courtship, the couple have reportedly split.

An insider close to Lopez confirmed to Us Weekly that the two have separated on good terms.

“It has actually been an amicable process that started a few months ago,” said the source. “It wasn’t an easy decision, but they decided to stay friends…Their relationship couldn’t work with the distance. He started trying to establish his own life and career, and she is so focused on hers, and they just couldn’t be all about each other anymore.”

J.Lo is doing fine and, thankfully, her work is keeping her busy. The 44-year-old pop icon is currently promoting her new album, ‘A.K.A.’ Recently, she performed an incredible show in New York with Ja Rule, French Montana and Fat Joe.

Lopez and Smart began dating back in November 2011, after a divorce from her third ex-husband, Marc Anthony. Since then, the couple have been photographed together on the red carpet at various events, including the 2014 Billboard Awards in May.

In recent weeks, rumors have surfaced that Smart had cheated on Lopez with a transgender model he reportedly met online. However, the source told Us Weekly that the rumors are “100 percent not true.”

“The scandal had nothing to do with it,” said the insider. “He insists none of that is true and she believes him.”

Despite the break-up, Lopez still hopes to one day get married again.

“I always believed in that institution,” she said in a past interview. “My parents were married for a very long time, for 35 years. I believe in it…I’ve had my challenges, but at the same time, I believe in love. That’s the main thing.”
