Pitbull Sued for $3 Million for Copyright Infringement (@pitbull)

Pitbull's Billboard chart-topper "Timber" featuring Ke$ha may be getting him in a bit of trouble.

The creators of the 1978 song "San Francisco Bay" Lee Oskar, Keri Oskar and Greg Errico, are taking the Miami rapper to court to the tune of $3 million for borrowing the song's harmonica vibe for the hit song.

According to the NY Daily News, The suit states that "'Timber's' harmonica player Paul Harrington was instructed to emulate Oskar's performance on "San Francisco Bay" and the infringing record makes "copious use" of the original melody and harmonica riff."

Bow Wow Is Changing His Name

From Lil Bow Wow to Bow Wow and next, Shad Moss. The rapper and ’106 & Park’ host is officially changing his name to his government moniker after the 2014 BET Awards.

Bow took to Instagram to explain the reason behind the change. The entertainer is making a career evolution. “No more Bow Wow after June 29, man. Shad Moss is what it is. New era, new money. Let’s go,” he says in the 15-second video.

“ANNOUNCEMENT: After BET awards i will no longer go by Bow Wow! Im going by my real name “Shad Moss” we made alot of history as bow wow. Now its time for the next chapter and challenge. Bow wow does not fit who i am today. Ima father, business man, TV host, Actor, and rapper! Time for MR Moss to take over!” the rhymer wrote as the caption to the accompanying visual.

Back in 2002, the multi-hyphenate dropped “Lil’” from his stage name. He told MTV then, “I changed my name because I’m getting older now and it’s too many Lil’s. All these Lil’ rappers, I’m just kind of getting real irritated by it. I said, ‘You know what? Drop the Lil’. Forget it. I’m Bow Wow.’ Besides, I’m growing up, I’m not little anymore. [I just decided] two weeks ago. I really got irritable. It’s all these Lil’ cats, forget it. I’m Bow Wow now. Everything is just ‘Bow Wow,’ no ‘Lil’ Bow Wow.’”

In the coming days, he’ll be releasing a new song, ‘Right Now’ featuring K Camp.

Air Jordan 3 Retro 'Sport Blue'

Sneaker4Life

You just can’t beat a new Air Jordan 3 colorway, even if it is “black and blue.” Corny pun aside we are on the heels of the ‘Sport Blue’ colorway of the silhouette and it looks to be just what the doctor ordered if you are an Air Jordan 3 enthusiast.

A black leather upper sets the tone for this dead serious release that goes for a different take on the “True Blue” theme but uses similar colorblocking. Overall sport blue looks great against the dark upper and really pops against the elephant print accents.

The Air Jordan 3 “Sport Blue” will hit shelves on Aug. 16 and is priced at $170 a pop. Do you think this will be one of those much talked about, highly anticipated releases? We sure do.

Soulja BoyMark Davis, Getty Images

Soulja Boy is in a stuntin’ mood. The rapper boasts about how awesome his life is on ’0 to 100.’

The new freestyle, over Drake’s ’0 to 100′ beat, has Soulja Boy price-checking all of his expensive things. “I rock Louis V. s—, I don’t rock Hilfiger,” he raps. “Hop up out the cut I’m gettin’ deals n—- / Six million on that once, one on my wrist / Ridin’ through the hood, Ace of Spades, bottle of the Cris.”

The track is from the rapper-producer’s upcoming ‘King Soulja 3′ mixtape. “I did this one for y’all,” he tweeted along with a link to the track.

The release of Soulja Boy’s ’0 to 100′ freestyle is just one of the many that have debuted since Drake released the original song earlier this month. Chris Brown, Meek Mill and G-Unit are just of the artists who have spit over the beat.

Zendaya Addresses Being "Too Light-Skinned" to Portray Aaliyah (@zendaya)

While several Aaliyah fans have been especially critical of the hiring of Disney star Zendaya to play Aaliyah in the upcoming Lifetime movie biopic, with some saying she's simply too light to play the singer, she's determined to prove that it isn't about her skin color as much as portraying the late entertainer to the best of her ability.

"For those who don't know, Angela Bassett & Tina Turner, they look nothing alike, but she was that character," said Zendaya at LAX, while introducing us to her African-American father, saying "half black is just enough." Her father of course agreed, and said that they'll be shooting in the summertime, so Zendaya will be even more tanned to match Aaliyah's skin tone.

Sam Smith has an uncanny ability to make everything emo. The British crooner takes on Whitney Houston‘s ‘How Will I Know,’ flipping the ’80s classic into a melancholy cover.

The crooner, who performed with Mary J. Blige for a sold-out show at the Apollo Theater last week, covered the track for Sirius’ Hits 1.

“How will I know if you really love me?” he asks during the performance, which has over one million views in just three days. “How will I know if you’re thinking of me?”

The 22-year-old U.K. native has been making waves leading up to the release of his debut album, ‘In the Lonely Hour.’ According to early predictions from Billboard, the effort, which was released last week in the U.S., and features tracks like ‘Stay With Me’ and ‘Lay Me Down,’ is slated to bow in at the No. 2 spot on the albums chart.

Wish Atlanta x adidas Originals SL Loop 'Independent Currency'

Wish

Seeing a $2 bill isn’t that commonplace so Atlanta boutique Wish and adidas have decided to make finding one a little easier with their latest collaboration. The Wish x adidas Originals SL Loop ‘Independent Currency’ puts the out-of-circulation legal tender front and center for this release and it looks like its worth every penny spent.

Not only does the collaboration play off of a very rare out of print currency it also pulls in the not too often seen adidas Originals SL Loop to serve as the silhouette. With elements of the dollar’s design pulled in along the suede and mesh build they also have very subtle money green and grey tones worked in as well.

The release is set to hit shelves at Wish ATL on July 4 and will see a wider release on July 11. Extra points if you use a $2 bill while paying for the purchase.

Robin Thicke Pours His Heart Out in 'Get Her Back' Video

Robin Thicke is extremely apologetic in his new video for ‘Get Her Back.’ The mostly black-and-white clip is the R&B crooner’s visual attempt to get his estranged wife Paula Patton back.

We’re not sure if it will work, but the clip is heavy to watch and a little creepy.

The video, directed by Jonas Akerlund, mixes shots of Thicke, who appears to be bloodied and bruised as he sings his “baby, please come back to me” lyrics, with images of a woman who resembles Patton. Text messages, apparently between the two, are also shown. Some of the on-screen messages include: “You drink too much. You embarrassed me. I can’t make love to you anymore. You ruined everything.”

The video ends with only one simple message that reads, “This is only the beginning.”

Thicke’s video has generated a tidal wave of slander on Twitter. Read some of the tweets below.

The soulful ballad ‘Get Her Back’ will appear on Robin Thicke’s seventh effort titled ‘Paula,’ which hits stores July 1.

10 Best Breakup Songs

Fabolous Mariah Carey NasStephen Lovekin / Mike Coppola(2), Getty Images

The best breakup songs usually help mend a listener’s heart and mind. We’ve compiled a list of tender ballads to help you get over your heartbreak and get you ready for summer love.

From Ne-Yo‘s ‘So Sick’ to Nas’s ‘Bye Bye Baby’ to Mariah Carey‘s ‘We Belong Together’ to Fabolous‘ ‘Cuffin Season,’ this list covers every type of situation that comes with being in a relationship — disappointment, reflection, heartbreak and even revenge. So without further ado, check out The Boombox’s 10 Best Breakup Songs.

10

'Ex Girl to Next Girl'

Gang Starr

Breakups are never easy. It can be hard for an ex to move on from a relationship once it's over. On Gang Starr's 'Ex Girl to Next Girl,' Guru recalls a former girlfriend who keeps stalking him and his family after they break up. "She had much loot, liked to buy me fresh-dipped gear / Liked to have me near cause of my savoir faire / The time we shared was brief because I needed relief / From her high-class antics and all her conceit / Now she's crying wolf and I like don't wanna hear that / I told her the bear facts when we started out," he raps.

Ne-Yo touched the heart and soul with his classic 2006 ballad 'So Sick.' On the heartbreaking song, the singer-songwriter is reminded of an ex-girlfriend every time he hears her favorite tune on the radio. He croons on the infectious chorus, "I'm so sick of love songs / So tired of tears / So done with wishing you were still here / I'm so sick of love songs, so sad and slow / Why can't I turn off the radio?"

On the jazzy 'Dear Whoever,' Brooklyn rhymer Skyzoo appears to be rapping about an apparent breakup. The question here is -- who is he splitting up with? Is it hip-hop or is it a former flame? Skyzoo's excellent metaphoric rhymes detail his parting words to the one who once had his heart. "So now I'm like, dear whoever / When I put this together / I felt like severing ties, may work better / I felt like stepping aside, instead of together / Could be the best thing for the both of us, forever," he raps on the chorus. In the end, Skyzoo is talking about his rhyme book.

7

'Blame Game'

Kanye West & John Legend

Kanye West's 'Blame Game' was reportedly inspired by his past relationship with Amber Rose. During their public breakup in 2010, Rose accused West of cheating on her with Kim Kardashian, who, ironically, he married in May 2014. John Legend's melodic piano playing helps Yeezy paint a tumultuous picture of a relationship that had more faults than strengths.

In 2005, Nas married R&B singer Kelis after years of courtship. Four years later, the couple filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. Rather than spit vitriol at his ex-wife, Nas details why he separated from Kelis on the ballad, 'Bye Bye Baby.' In his accompanying video, Nas is reflective not bitter over his failed marriage as he watches old videos of them in happier times. Now that's hip-hop on a mature level.

5

'Love the Way You Lie'

Eminem & Rihanna

Relationships are hard work. They take compromise and you want to end things before they turn ugly. On Eminem's 2010 song 'Love the Way That You Lie,' the Detroit rhymer raps about a fiery relationship that's destined to go up in flames. Rihanna provides the heartbreaking lyrics, "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn? / That's alright because I like the way it hurts / Just gonna stand there and hear me cry? That's alright because I love the way you lie." Sometimes a relationship or marriage really does need to end.

4

'Stay With Me'

Sam Smith & Mary J. Blige

Sam Smith's gospel-esque ballad 'Stay With Me' deals with unrequited love -- particularly after a one-night stand. Remixed by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, the song's piano arrangement draws listeners into Smith's honest lyrics of catching feelings after a sexual tryst. Mary J. Blige adds some bite to the song providing the female voice to the situation. It's an emotional effort that catches your ears from the start.

What do you when your boyfriend cheats on you and doesn't respect the relationship? Do like Beyonce, and tell him, "To the left, to the left." Her 2006 song 'Irreplaceable,' is, undoubtedly, one of most the infectious breakup songs in R&B. Queen Bey sings on the acoustic-driven ballad, "You must not know about me / I can have another you in a minute / Matter of fact, he will be here in a minute." Ouch! This perfect breakup song was penned by Ne-Yo, who also appears on this list.

2

'Cuffin Season' Remix

Fabolous & 50 Cent

Cuffin season may be over but Fabolous is going to stretch it out over the summer with his 'Cuffin Season (Remix)' featuring 50 Cent. On the track, Fab addresses the thots looking to hold onto a dude past the winter season. "You ain't got no man, All your pics are selfies / I be taking wealth-ies / Ballin' in my pictures / You be fighting all the ho's, spoiling all the bitches," he raps. Meanwhile, Fif boasts about bagging women and dismissing them before the weather gets warm. "In Sin City, I f---ed them h-s gritty / Substitute Fiddy, I'm filling in for Biggie," he raps.

1

'We Belong Together'

Mariah Carey

Breaking up with a significant other, particularly with one you truly love, is never easy. On Mariah Carey's 2005 song 'We Belong Together,' she pleads with her lover to come back and give love one more chance. "When you left I lost a part of me / It's still so hard to believe / Come back baby please," she yearns over a melodic piano groove. The song is simple, heartfelt and infectious at the same time. And it's easy to hear why 'We Belong Together' became the "Song of the Decade."

Rick Ross Detroit Death Threat Didn't Cause Violence at Concert, Chene Park Reps Say

Rick RossEthan Miller, Getty Images

Although Rick Ross was denied entry into the Chene Park amphitheater by “100 individuals,” reps for the venue say that the Hot 107.5 Summer Jamz 17 event inside was peaceful and non-violent.

Rozay was scheduled to perform at the event but was reportedly in “fear for his life” after he was confronted by a large number of people rumored to be Detroit rapper Trick Trick and his goon squad.

Apparently, the Miami rapper is on a “No Fly Zone” list, which means that any rapper who doesn’t collaborate with Detroit artists or pay a tithe to the city are not invited to perform. Trick Trick allegedly has enforced this rule on a number of rappers prior to Ross’ visit to the Motor City.

“He is in fear of his life and that n—- is not performing here tonight and he may never come back to Detroit, and that’s no bulls—,” Hot 107.5 Program Director Jay Hicks told the disappointed crowd.

David Rudolph, a spokesperson for The Right Productions who book shows at Chene Park, said despite the negative incident none of the 3,000 concertgoers in attendance were in danger.

“It was a great show for all the artists that were part of the lineup,” Rudolph told MLive. “It was ran smoothly and started on time. There may be some preconceived notions as to how hip-hop gatherings may turn out, but there was none of that.”

Rudolph said that they will continue to book rap shows at the venue. “This issue didn’t happen within Chene Park; it happened outside,” he said. “And it’s unfortunate that this was a tactic to prevent another artist performing.”

A rep for the Detroit police department said that no arrests were made that evening and no 911 calls were made from the area regarding the incident.

So far, the Maybach Music Group honcho has not addressed the incident. However, he did show love to the city of Detroit on his Twitter page.

“Luv #Detroit I wuz ready to killm 2nite, heard it wuz a peace protest wit picket signs and locked gates haa,” he tweeted.

Exclusive! Yung Joc Breaks Down Karlie Redd vs. Khadijah Fight (@iamyungjoc @karlieredd)

Yung Joc sat down with VladTV and discussed one of his more awkward moments on Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta, when girlfriend Karlie Redd and assistant Khadijah traded blows in the kitchen of a house Khadijah was showing the couple.

Joc first addresses the misconception that Khadijah is a "side chick," saying she's actually wifey material and has proven to have the skills necessary to find and keep a man on his level.

He then says he and Khadijah never gave Karlie a reason to think they had been intimate, and also that Karlie had calmed down a lot in the previous days, so he didn't see the harm in leaving the two of them in the room together.

Listen to Joc break down the situation above.

Crazy L'eggs, Not Crazy Legs

You may've noticed I have a keen interest in exploring the fresh, under-appreciated rap records from the 80s and 90s Miami scene. I've found myself often saying, "now, this isn't your typical..." But what is the typical? I figured it's time I wrote about a "generic" bass release, if only as a reference. This is the kind of record that had most of us shaking our heads on the east coast whenever we heard mention of Miami bass.

Right off the bat, let's be clear. Crazy L'eggs is no relation to the hip-hop icon Crazy Legs, of the original Rocksteady Crew break dancers. Crazy L'eggs (named after the brand of pantyhose) is best known for making a club record out of the kindergarten song, "If You're Happy and You Know It" ...which stayed surprisingly true to the original.

Crazy L'eggs is one of those rappers who didn't rap. Like Luke. His earliest singles featured Aim To Please, who did his rapping for him. But his later releases did away with rapping entirely and just relied on L'eggs doing a bunch of shouty hooks. And also like Luke, he didn't do his own production either; which always had me wondering why a label had signed him to make records in the first place. I guess he was a local DJ or something with a name to cash in on?

Anyway, this particular single is "Doin' His Own Thang" from 1993 on Pandisc Records. Pandisc picked him up after he did the admittedly distinctive hook to a successful Prince Rahiem song ("Loose My Money"), and put out all his records through the early 90s. He only released a handful in his full career, actually; and he never had a full length album, though Pandisc would sometimes sneak out more unreleased Crazy L'eggs songs on random compilation albums which were probably intended for an an unheard LP.

You generally don't see his picture on his 12"s or anything (the sticker cover to this one doesn't include his image, just the same blue background), so my cassette picture cover is interesting in that regard. It's produced by Devastator X, who of course had a hefty career in Miami bass, and so this has a very heavy instrumental. If you've heard both, you might've noticed that parts of it are actually pretty similar to 1994's "Happy and You Know It," which X also produced; and which featured several identical musical elements. In fact that's because "Happy and You Know It" actually recycles this instrumental completely - it's the same track, only with the children's song chanted over it in place of some of the original chants. In fact, some pressings of "Happy" included "Doin'" on the flipside. But between the two, this is the one I have to go with, if only because it's impossible to listen to "Happy and You Know It" without feeling like a huge goofball. But even if you put that factor aside and unselfconsciously rock out to either song, I think I'd still say L'eggs sounds better on this one.

The instrumental is ever-changing and replete with dope sounds and samples. I brought this up as an average record, but instrumentally it's actually better than average. But with no rap verses, the beat had better change up a lot; because otherwise it's nothing but a litany of unending and completely generic bass music phrases for the full duration: "whatcha wanna do? Ride it! Whatcha wanna do? Ride it! Whatcha wanna do? Ride it! Whatcha wanna do? Ride it! Whatcha wanna do? Ride it! Whatcha wanna do? Ride it! Yeahhh! To where? In the middle! To where? In the middle! To where? In the middle! To where? In the middle! To the flo', let's go! To the what? To the flo'! To the what? To the flo'! To the what? To the flo'! To the what? To the flo'! To the what? To the flo'! To the what? To the flo'! One more time, let's do it! Whatcha wanna do? Ride it! Whatcha wanna do? Ride it! Whatcha wanna do? Ride it! Whatcha wanna do? Ride it!"

Now, don't just skip that highlighted bit. Read it carefully. That's a literal transcription of just thirty seconds of this five minute song. And it just goes on like that. When he said, "one more time," I just thought oh no, please! I understand that this was meant to be played in clubs where you can just rock out to the instrumental; and I'm sure everyone who actually enjoyed this song in 1993 probably just tuned this guy out. But it's fucking tedious to actually listen to; and what does it say about a MC whose music is best enjoyed by tuning him out?

It turned out, Crazy L'eggs really needed Aim To Please. Or any MC or singer who could carry the vocal portion of a record. Oh, and a solid, established producer to make his instrumentals. When he had that combination, his records worked, and when he only had one or the other, they only half-worked, as in this case. So it's obvious why L'eggs needed those guys, but the question is, why would any of them need him?

Exclusive! Dame Dash: I'm Not Mad at Funk Flex, Beef Is Off (@dashdamon @funkmasterflex)

Business mogul Dame Dash sat down with VladTV to share his view of labels pushing artists to pursue 360 deals, saying that there is something inherently wrong with telling artists to "give up their entire behind."

"I've watched them [labels] trick people into thinking that after they've built their foundation and they have their show, and all the exposure is done that they need them to go the next level and have them sell their whole entire behind away. 360 degrees of your ass, pause, just 'cuz of a trick."

He also said that he's no longer mad at Funkmaster Flex and that the "beef" between the two of them is over as far as he's concerned. He then questions why Hot 97's Ebro doesn't want to sit down and have a conversation with him. Lastly, he congratulates Angie Martinez on switching from Hot 97 to Power 105.

She Wasn't Ready! Kevin Hart's GF Goes In on "Fat, Unhappy" Fan (@kevinhart4real)

Kevin Hart's boo Eniko may have kept quiet when Hart's ex-wife went at her, but when it comes to random fans on Twitter, she's not having it.

Eniko recently took to Instagram to repost a pic of her man with Jiff the Pomeranian, along with this caption:

"OMG- I'm so mad I didn't get to meet him today. Like for real I need that dog babe. Make that happen! ugh! #imobsessed #doggyLover"

The whole "make it happen" line set off a few Hart fans who began implying Eniko needs Kevin to buy her things, asking why she couldn't "make it happen" herself. She didn't take too kindly to them implying she was a gold digger and proceeded to go off on one "fat, miserable" fan.

Memphis Soul Legend Teenie Hodges Dies at 68

Teenie HodgesFan Club Films

Mabon “Teenie” Hodges, the guitarist for the house band at Memphis’ Hi Records, has passed away at the age of 68. He died of complications of emphysema last night (June 22) at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Hodges had been hospitalized since March, when he contracted pneumonia while at the South by Southwest conference in Austin. The news was confirmed by Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell, the grandson of Hi founder Willie Mitchell. “It’s a huge blow to Memphis music. Teenie was an icon — as a songwriter and a guitarist. Guitarists all around the world loved and imitated his playing. But Teenie… man, he was one of a kind,” he told the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Along with drummers Al Jackson, Jr., and Harold Grimes, pianist Archie Turner and his brothers Leroy and Charles, Hodges played on dozens of soul classics. Next time you listen to Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together,’ try not to focus on the Rev.’s vocals and listen to the snaking guitar line directly below his vocals in the mix. That’s Teenie Hodges.

If that had been his only contribution to soul music, it still would have been enough to enshrine him among the greats. But when you add his work with other Hi artists like Ann Peebles, Otis Clay and Syl Johnson — as well as co-writing with Green on such oft-covered hits as ‘Love and Happiness,’ ‘Take Me to the River’ and ‘Here I Am (Come and Take Me)’ — Hodges’ legacy was secured decades ago.

Born in 1946, in the Memphis suburb of Germantown, Hodges was 12 when he started playing in his father’s blues band. By the mid-’60s., he had met Mitchell, who took Hodges under his wing and eventually brought him into his own band. When Mitchell took over Hi in 1970, he installed them in Royal Studios in South Memphis.

The band expanded on the sparse, gospel-infused template for southern soul made famous by Stax and added lush strings and jazzier feel. Hodges often provided the latter with his clean, warm comping and sinuous lines.

By the late-’70s, Hi had been sold and the house band broke up. After a few years of a break, he worked with other blues and soul singers, and re-formed the Hi Rhythm Section for the occasional tour. In 2013, he was the subject of Susanna Vapnek’s documentary, ‘Mabon ‘Teenie’ Hodges: A Portrait of A Memphis Soul Original,’ which took five years to create.

“It’s very strange, but I just feel blessed to have been doing it this long,” he said in 2007. “I didn’t have nothing to do with it, really, God did it. But, yes, I do feel blessed I was able to make this music and make a lot of people happy.”

Keyshia Cole Explores Intimacy With Another Woman on 'She'

Girls just want to have fun and Keyshia Cole explores that mantra on her new song ‘She.’

On the DJ Mustard-produced track, the singer ditches the dude and gets intimate with another women. Cole is “high off” this new lover.

“Down to try something different / Lips and legs, soft skin so feminine / Curves like me, covered in my cherry scent,” the songstress delivers. “Them boys love ‘em some you / But I ain’t mad ’cause you look good on me too / She look good on me too.”

‘She’ is the newest release from her forthcoming LP, ‘Point of No Return.’ The effort, which features collaborations with Juicy J (‘Rick James’) and previously released songs ‘Next Time (Won’t Give My Heart Away),’ arrives later this year.

Despite her separation from husband Daniel “Boobie” Gibson, Cole is keeping her mind focused on her work. Next month, the chanteuse will embark on her Point of No Return tour.
