50 Cent Comments On IG After Trav Takes Photo With His Son (@50Cent)

50 Cent and rapper Trav's issues have been brought to the surface yet again when the rapper took a photo with 50's son at an event at S.O.B's in New York Wednesday night.

Trav posted the photo on Instagram with his arm around the rapper's teenage son Marquise with the caption, "This Family Ova A Decade...@slowbucks @bucksy_luciano And The Baby Bro @199viq aka #lil50 Well not the baby bro cause he grown now and he bout to take ova the #NBA #PUSH #MBB #SBOE"

Popular clothing brand Slowbucks also posted the photo featuring the designers. 50 commented on their photo saying "This picture was a bad idea" possibly directed at Trav or his son for being photographed with someone he has had problems with in the past.

Trav, who is a friend to Meek Mill and rapper on the Maybach Music label, had problems with 50 last year in Atlanta after 50 invited Meek Mill on stage. When Trav tried to join him, 50 refused him entry to the stage. The incident was close to reaching a physical altercation after Trav pushed the rapper. Before that incident, the two exchanged words on Twitter so it's a little questionable as to why Trav would take a photo with the rapper's son.

Trav or 50's son have not responded to the rapper's comment.

Pusha T: I'm Not Listening to Rap, I Play a Lot of Jhene Aiko (@PUSHA_T, @jheneaiko)

As one of the most skilled MCs in the game, many would assume Virginia's Pusha T listens to that good ole lyricism every day. That turns out not to be the case. He revealed to DJ Skee that he's more into the smooth sounds of Jhene Aiko than his Hip-Hop contemporaries right now. However, there is one rapper that's been bumping out of Pusha's speakers.

"I saw a video with Childish Gambino, and it was a good song...I went and downloaded the EP, bought it, and it's been something I've been listening to a lot."

Elle Varner Releases New Song 'F–k It All'

Dimitrios Kambouris, Getty Images

Singer Elle Varner, readies her sophomore effort, ’4 Letter Word,’ with a new track that sports a four-letter word.

‘F–k It All’ finds the Ms. Varner in an interestingly vindictive and vulnerable state. The slow and melodic music compares starkly to the powerful lyrics, “‘Cause I could be a whole lot of things / Go on and clip my wings / be a pissed drunk bitch of a whore.” The salacious track is reportedly produced by Pop & Oak, who were also responsible for Nicki Minaj’s top ten hit ‘Your Love.’

Give the new track a listen. It’s sure to stay in your head long after it ends.

Gary Clark Jr. Teams Up with Alice Smith on 'Please Come Home'

Gary Clark Jr.

Known for his gritty guitar licks and bluesy voices, Gary Clark Jr. slows things down even more on his new ballad, ‘Please Come Home.’

Enlisting the help of R&B singer and songwriter Alice Smith, the song has a ’50s doo wop feel that brings you back to the days of Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. Using more of his falsetto vocals throughout the track, ‘Please Come Home’ shows the softer side of Clark. And even though there’s still his signature electric guitar playing in the background, it’s blends in with the rest of the track instead of becoming a focal point of the song.

“My love is with you / Even though you’re far away / You make me love you / And it’s where my love will stay, darlin’” he croons on the first verse.

As Clark shows his affection for the lady in the song, which in this case is Smith, she returns the sentiment by singing, “Those times I get lonely / You’re the one who truly knows me / I can tell in the way you talk / Oh, you show me.”

‘Please Come Home’ is the latest single off Clark’s upcoming mixtape, ‘Black and Blu: The Mixtape,’ available to download on April 30.

In January, he released the first single, which was a reworked version of ‘Black and Blu’ and featured Big K.R.I.T.

Mariah Carey's New Album To Be A Surprise Release

Theo Wargo, Getty Images

Superstar, Mariah Carey, spills the beans to Billboard Magazine that her long-awaited 14th studio album might be a surprise release, much like Beyonce’s self-titled release.

It’s been a long road for Mariah Carey’s 14th studio album. It was titled then untitled, due for release, then delayed. It all started back in the summer of 2012 when the singer released ‘Triumphant,’ which floundered and kicked off the sequence of delays all the way to this year’s under-performing single, ‘You’re Mine (Eternal).’

As the subject of Billboard’s latest cover story, Mariah and manager, Jermaine Dupri, dish about the upcoming release. The most important detail is that the singer will be taking “a surprise approach to the project,” according to the magazine.

What that means is that it will be released at once for digital consumption and then available to retailers the week after. An approach that Frank Ocean and BeyoncĂ© took for their latest projects. The “surprise” route seems to be catching on as Kid Cudi and EDM producer, Skrillex, released their albums without any warning.

The story, that’ll be released Monday morning, also finds the pop star talking about collaborations, what to expect on the new album, and her return to television.

This or That? Sage The Gemini vs. Sage Francis

Sage the Gemini and Sage Francis couldn’t be more different. One is a Bay Area, hyphy-influenced rap star who topped the charts with the help of the social media app Vine. Sage Francis is a vegetarian, “underground” rapper who probably only knows the vines his veggies grow on.

They come from two different eras: Francis, from one where “underground” rappers wore their badges of honor proudly and shared loosies with Slug and Aesop Rock, and Gemini, from a new age of kinship between rap and radio in the aftermath of Lil’ Wayne’s cataclysmic takeover between 2005 and 2009. Fans of the former luxuriated in the largely unknown profiles of their favorite artists while spitting on “The Evil Mainstream’s” lowest common denominator aspirations. Fans of the latter might have no idea who Sage Francis is, and one spoken word verse from him would surely turn them off forever.

In the early 2000s, independent rap was at its peak as labels like Rhymesayers and Stones Throw became popular amongst a large swath of hip-hop fans. This popularity wasn’t indicated by record sales or radio spins, but the spreading fertility and critical acclaim of the scene itself. ‘God Loves Ugly’ dropped in 2002, ‘Bazooka Tooth’ in 2003, and ‘Madvillainy’ in 2004, the last of which representing what many might consider the peak of the vibrant underground sphere. Brother Ali, Blueprint, Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, RJD2, Cage, Murs, Jean Grae, Copywrite – the list goes on and on. They represented, in some way, a triumph of lyrics over production, directly preceding the Ringtone Rap era that reverse engineered that ideology in favor of catchy hooks and melody.

Around the same time, Pitchfork began to climb the ranks of respected online publications, largely because of their keen eye towards indie scenes like the one described above. The same year that they gave ‘Madvillainy’ a 9.2, they gave ‘College Dropout’ an 8.4 with this important directive for listeners: “Analyze the fast-disappearing line between mainstream and underground hip-hop, as personified by ‘College Dropout’s guest appearances, and West’s personal rap style.”

Kanye was indeed the harbinger for the dissolve of that line – “the first n—ga with a Benz and a backpack.” You wouldn’t have expected it back then, but today Pitchfork gives Chief Keef and Migos the same scores that rap purists once thought were only reserved for the underground elite. The horror …

The drastic swing in opinion embodies the change in rap’s contemporary narrative, at least amongst the press and audience at large. Pop and rap are one in the same (who would have expected a Three 6 Mafia member to be on a No. 1 hit song with a white lady known mostly for her breasts?), both on the charts and within the soundwaves. Artists like Future and Drake, who utilize “street” images while pushing a pop sound, have paved the way for rappers like Sage the Gemini to have platinum singles. Those that employ a sing-song technique (like Chief Keef and Wiz Khalifa, as of late) are doing better in the eyes of the rap public than ever before.

Perhaps folks got tired of the overly rigorous lyrics of the “underground” era, or the expectation to hate everything that’s played on the radio. Maybe people realized that there’s more to rap than what the chosen words mean. To argue whether the change is “good” or “bad” for hip-hop isn’t of much import – some will like it, others won’t.

Sage the Gemini’s lyrics aren’t dense or deep, but they work in the context of the music’s larger goal: to be fun. ‘Red Nose’ and ‘Gas Pedal’ are the hits, but try listening to ‘Go Somewhere’ without getting caught up in it’s infectiousness. Everything about his debut album ‘Remember Me’ sounds primed for a party, but if you come expecting something from Rawkus, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

One of the most discomforting (yet rewarding) experiences in life is to suddenly question your own beliefs and expectations, so if you’re a card-carrying purist, open yourself up to the possibility of everything you’ve ever known to be true being false. Then you can flip back and forth between Sage Francis and Sage the Gemini with ease.

Nike Air Max 1 Breathe 'City Pack' – London

Undefeated

The Nike “City Pack” silhouettes have been swarming the Internet and it feels like a new one pops up repping a different area code everyday. In light of the Nike Air Max 95 ‘London’ we are doubling up on sneakers paying homage to the city known for its fog.

The Nike Air Max 1 Breathe rocks that heavy mesh upper with tape marking off the contours that seems usually would and a rather mellow colorway. Another cool accent is that the underlays play hues that shine through the outer layer giving us a peek at both blue and orange accents laying beneath. With a London England tongue tag wagging these are probably proper attire for tea and crumpets.

Look for these now at select Nike retailers including Undefeated’s Japanese web portal. It will probably be easier to track these down online than to stroll into a shop, especially if you aren’t around a major metropolitan area.

Superhead Now Mentoring Former Porn Actress Montana Fishburne (@karrineandco)

Last year, Laurence Fishburne's daughter Montana denounced the porn industry after co-starring in a film with porn star Brian Pumper. Since cleaning her life up, the 22-year-old daughter of Hollywood royalty has been working as a certified fitness trainer.

Karrine "Superhead" Steffans took notice of Fishburne's skills as a trainer and has asked her to contribute to Steffans' lifestyle blog, "I Am So F'n Gorgeous" and has also taken on the role of mentor for the once troubled Fishburne.

Steffans wrote of the partnership on her own publishing site, where she explains she met Montana a year ago and wanted to help the former porn actress immediately:

"When I met her, I instantly wanted to protect her, I wanted to help her claw her way out of the ditch she'd dug for herself. I told her it would be a long road back and no one will ever forget, but if she just did the work, she could switch the focus and one day be known for so much more."

She then went on to explain why she brought Montana onboard as a fitness blogger for her site:

"It may seem like a stretch to you but physical fitness and health are major parts of Montana's life. The kid knows her stuff! Now, is she bat sh*t crazy otherwise? Maybe. But we're not here for her life advice; we're here for toned abs and an ass that won't quit. To my dearest Montana, do the work; no one can deny the work."

50 Cent Sued By Video Vixen For Defamation

50 CentJamie McCarthy, Getty Images

Hip-hop heavyweight 50 Cent has been slapped with a defamation suit by a video vixen who claims the rapper slandered her on social media.

According to the New York Daily News, Sally Ferreira, a model and dancer from New York, filed the lawsuit in Manhattan Federal Court on Thursday (Apr. 24).

In her suit, she claims to be in distraught after Fiddy defamed her publicly by allegedly calling her a “thirsty video bitch” on Instagram.

The 29-year-old model, who starred in 50’s ‘Big Rich Town’ video, said the rapper blacklisted her after falsely accusing her of leaking a behind-the-scene photo of them together on a video shoot, which sparked rumors that they were dating.

He then allegedly ridiculed her on Twitter and Instagram with the photo and allegedly wrote in text, “WARNING: Do not attempt to work with this thirsty Video b—- she sent photos Of the video shoot to Mediatakeout Saying I’m in a relationship Withher Cananyone say RESHOOT.”

He then added: “Big FAIL, super thirsty, new shoot this week coming. Unbelievable #smsaudio #Animal Ambition.”

The lawsuit states a number of media outlets wrote articles about the Instagram post despite 50 Cent removing it from his account within hours of posting it.

“Before the defamatory posting, Ms. Ferreira was working on three separate entertainment industry projects and enjoyed a good reputation in the industry,” her lawsuit claims.

Ferreira, who is engaged to her boyfriend of nine years, believes 50’s allegations ruined her career and smeared her reputation. She is reportedly seeking $5-11 million in damages.

50 Cent’s attorneys had no comment on the matter.

Freddie Gibbs is a 'G Like Dat' with The World's Freshest

Freddie Gibbs already secured a spot as one of rap’s best performers of the year with the release of his critically acclaimed album ‘Piñata’ produced by Madlib. But, it appears Gangsta Gibbs has no intentions to slow down as he preps for the release of yet another project.

This time around, Gibbs is joining Bay Area fixture The World’s Freshest (formerly known as DJ Fresh) for another edition of the DJ’s long-running series of ‘The Tonite Show’ albums. Gibbs and Fresh offer up listeners a taste of what to expect with the funky cut ‘G Like Dat’ produced by Mr. Tower.
