James Rosemond Jr. Speaks Out On 50 Cent's 'Hold On' (@JamesRosemondJr @50Cent)

The son of Jimmy Henchman is calling out 50 Cent for his recent track 'Hold On,' and attacks on his father.

According to AllHipHop, James Rosemond Jr., released a statement questioning 50's actions on the track, where he brings up the incident when Tony Yayo slapped him when he was just a teen.

"First and foremost, when is it cool for four grown men in their 30′s to surround and hit a 14 year-old middle school kid? The incident in 2007 was a bad situation I didn't deserve, and seven years later it's now being made fun of in a record? What real gangster condones grown men assaulting a minor or a young man who has no involvement in the beef? Plus, these guys have kids of their own, and they should know better!"

The businessman also called out 50 for attacking his father during his recent court case. The rapper has taken to his Instgram several times calling out Jimmy on his past and accused him of snitching. Jimmy was on trial for hiring an alleged hitman in the murder of G-Unit affiliate Lowell "Lodi Mack" Fletcher. The case ended in a mistrial March 7.

"Secondly, who gets credit for trying to diss a man who is currently down and in no position to defend himself at this moment? It's so easy to try to kick a man when he is down. What "real" street person applauds when a person is fighting against the same corrupt and prejudice system that has incarcerated a lot of black men? I guess that's how some "gangster rappers" build their credibility... At the end of the day we are not catering to any negativity on our side and we have much bigger things to put our energy into."

Miley Cyrus Raps to Sir Mix-a-Lot's 'Baby Got Back' [VIDEO]

Miley Cyrus likes big butts and she cannot lie. The pop singer did her very best rendition of Sir Mix-a-Lot‘s classic ‘Baby Got Back’ while at a karaoke bar recently in New Orleans.

TMZ has video of the rap fest at Cat’s Meow in the Big Easy. Cyrus was on break from her ‘Bangerz’ tour when she hopped on stage to join other revelers in singer the classic 90s tune.

After spending her 21st birthday with a bunch of strippers, is it any surprise? And yes, the ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer definitely shook what her mama gave her during the karaoke performance.

Recently, Miley performed another hip-hop favorite. She brought out OutKast‘s ‘Hey Ya’ during a concert and then led into the Dolly Parton classic, ‘Jolene.’ Bangerz indeed.

Ashanti Performs Emotional Song 'Scars' With Live Band [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

Not every artist actually writes the lyrics to the songs they perform. Lucky for Ashanti, when she sings the emotional record ‘Scars,’ she knows it comes from a very personal place since she penned the effort. Catharsis is the name of the game here.

Featured on her fifth studio album, ‘BraveHeart,’ the track is centered on a man betraying his lady. Could the songstress be singing about her broken connection with former flame Nelly? Fans won’t get an answer to that question because she didn’t confirm or deny it, but one thing’s for certain: Ashanti is looking forward.

“Be brave enough to accept it, deal with it, understand it and move on from it,” the 33-year-old songbird tells The Boombox of being betrayed.

Her scars are finally healing. Watch Ashanti belt through the pain in the live performance above.

Eminem to Headline Lollapalooza 2014

EminemChristopher Polk, Getty Images

Summer festival season is just around the corner and it looks like Eminem will be headlining one of the biggest festivals in the midwest — Lollapalooza in Chicago, Ill.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Slim Shady will join other headliners like Skrillex, Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys.

Lollapalooza runs Aug 1-3 at Chicago’s Grant Park. Tickets go on sale next Tuesday (March 25).

Last year, Lollapalooza drew an audience of 300,000 people over its three days. Although the official lineup won’t be announced until next week, industry sources have confirmed to the newspaper that the aforementioned names will take the stage.

This is not Em’s first showing at the festival. He performed back in 2011 and brought out guests like Royce Da 5’9″ and Skylar Grey. It’s a safe bet that he will perform cuts from his recent album ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2.’

50 Cent Gets Back to the Basics in 'Hold On' Video

It feels like 50 Cent’s departure from his longtime home of Shady/Aftermath and Interscope Records has revitalized his music output. Perhaps it’s some newfound creative freedom, but the New York rhymer sounds like his old self on the recently released singles, ‘Hold On’ and ‘Don’t Worry’ About It’ featuring Yo Gotti.

.

50′s succeeded so far in creating a buzz for his new album ‘Animal Ambition’ and continues that push with some visuals for the aforementioned ‘Hold On’ single.

The Eif Rivera-directed visuals mesh perfectly with 50′s laid-back, soulful production as he spits some vintage braggadocio lyrics. Fiddy raps, “Used to do graffiti, now look we major / Don’t make me write my name across your face with the razor / Re-up, new joke, they say this sample the bomb / This shit can take a two and we cut this bitch with a one.”

50 Cent’s new album ‘Animal Amibtion’ is scheduled to drop on June 3, but you can pick up the single ‘Hold On’ right now on iTunes.

Yung Joc Returns with 'I Got Bitches'

Yung Joc I Got BitchesSoundcloud Once a bad boy, always a bad boy. Yung Joc, who was prominently signed to Bad Boy Records in the early 2000s, returns with a new track called with ‘I Got Bitches’ featuring AE200 and D Dro.

Like the title suggests, the Auto-Tune-tinged song is a turnt-up track about different ladies.

“I got a bougie bitch… I got a college bitch… I got a thank-you bitch / What’s a thank-you bitch? / Sex so good, you gotta thank the bitch,” raps Joc as he presents his laundry lists of his bevy of women. If that wasn’t obvious enough, he echoes the statement on the chorus, rapping, “I got bitches, I got bitches, I got bitches.”

Yung Joc is mostly famous for his catchy 2006 club banger, ‘It’s Goin’ Down.’ The 30-year-old rapper’s last project with Bad Boy was 2007′s ‘Hustlenomics.’

Yung Joc is slated to release a new album on RCA some time this year.

Suspect in SXSW Hit-and-Run Was Aspiring Rapper

Rashad OwensBell County Sheriff’s Office

Rashad Charjuan Owens, the young man who drove into a crowd killing three people and injuring 23 others at SXSW in Austin, Texas last week, is reportedly an aspiring rapper.

The rap upstart, whose stage name is KillingAllBeatz or K.A.B254, was set to perform at the music festival on that tragic night in Austin, Texas.

According to Austin police, Owens fled from an officer who tried to pull him over at a drunk driving checkpoint. He then drove his car past barricades and plowed through pedestrians standing outside of a club without once hitting his brakes.

Owens, who is the father of six children, remains in custody on $3 million bond. The 21-year-old Texas native was charged with two counts of capital murder for the deaths of Jamie West and Steven Craenmehr, a 35-year-old musician from the Netherlands.

Another person, Sandy Le, died on Monday (March 17) from her injuries suffered during the March 13 crash.

Owens’ brother, Lamar Wilson, told the American-Statesman, that he borrowed a car from a friend and was headed to SXSW to perform. He added that his brother was studying music production at an online college.

However, court records also indicate that Owens had previous run-ins with the law. In October 2011, he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Fairbanks, Alaska, when he was 19.

Owens also faced charges in Alaska for criminal mischief in 2012, and a warrant was issued for him after he failed to appear in court. In 2010, he was arrested by police in Killeen, Texas, for criminal trespassing and pleaded guilty. Killeen is about 70 miles north of Austin.

“I can’t grasp it. I can’t believe it,” Wilson told the Statesman. “Everything was going good. We were just there trying to perform, and it made a whole other turn.”

Kevin Gates Teams with 2 Chainz for 'Bet I'm On It'

The rap world may be focused on Lil Boosie, but fellow Baton Rouge, LA rapper Kevin Gates hopes to grab some attention tomorrow when he drops his new album ‘By Any Means’. Before the LP hits stores tomorrow, Gates gives fans a preview with the single ‘Bet I’m On It’ featuring 2 Chainz.

In his signature sing-song flow, Gates opens up the track with some boasting before delivering some rapid fire rhymes. Gates raps, “Hustle real hard, never made it with a sport / five hundred four grams and you never woulda thought / eighteen ounces, made it with a fork / loved in the hood, but I’m hated on the court / when the ball hit the rim, that’s a miss / come to think about it, wait, that’s some bricks / three hundred eight-balls coming, no assists / aw, here we go again, mind on dope again.”

While 2 Chainz does drop a verse, it’s the catchy hook he provides Gates with that should quickly make this go-to selection for DJs and fans alike.

J.Lo appeared on Maine’s Hot 104.7 this morning (March 18) to talk about her new LP, which is due out on June 17.

“We’re in the final stages of putting it together. I think I have to turn it in like next week,” she told radio personality Ryan Deelon.

The album boasts the infectious ditty ‘I Luh Ya Papi‘ and the DJ Mustard-blessed banger ‘Girls.’ The collection also features collaborations with Big Sean, Tyga and a duet with Maxwell.

“There’s just so much amazing stuff on this album. I’m so excited for people to hear it,” she said.

As for the ‘Papi’ video, Lopez wanted to flip the rap video cliché and featured half-naked men for her clip.

“I thought it was time,” she said of the video. “When the director (Jessy Terrero) came up with the idea, I said ‘Okay.’ If I’m the rapper, then there’s got to be a whole bunch of guys in bathing suits around me because that’s what all the rappers ever have [in their videos]. Rapper DG Yola was arrested in Atlanta for murder on Friday (March 14).

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the 28-year-old Georgia native, who was wanted for a pair of shootings, was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and attempted robbery.

Atlanta police said that Yola, born Mario Talley, shot two men on March 9 outside of an apartment complex. One of those men, Rodney Walker, was found dead by police with multiple gun wounds. Another man, Isiah Knight, told authorities he had been robbed and shot outside of the apartments. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Police have not released information on the motive behind the two shootings.

Ironically, DG Yola was the victim of a shooting back in 2007. In that incident, the rapper was in his car at a red light when a gunman in another vehicle pulled up and shot him in the mouth. Gola survived the assault but a bullet ripped through his jaw, which required surgeons to install a metal plate in his mouth. Gola documented his recovery time in the hospital on his YouTube channel.

He’s mostly known for “the 2006 song ‘Ain’t Gonna Let Up,’ which was inspired by his perseverance after the shooting. He was also previously convicted of shooting his cousin in the chest in 2009, and served three years in prison.

DG Gola is currently being held in the Fulton County jail without bond.

Ashanti Performs Chaka Khan's 'Sweet Thing' [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

Ashanti‘s artistry still comes into question despite having five albums and more than 10 years of experience in the music business. Yes, there are people out there who still don’t realize she has an impressive set of pipes. Call them disconnected, haters or just plain oblivious. They’ll learn soon enough.

The songstress chooses to quell the negativity by doing what she does best: sing. For her Off the Record performance, the 33-year-old chooses the soulful ode ‘Sweet Thing’ by fellow R&B queen Chaka Khan. Ashanti’s decision to cover the 1975 classic is to “prove them wrong.” Taking on the task of singing a legend’s song is no easy feat, yet the ‘BraveHeart’ creator never falters as she puts her own delicate spin on the tune.

“I love Chaka Khan. That she is a female in this industry that is so respected and extremely talented and so relevant today,” Ashanti tells The Boombox. “That’s crazy. It’s been decades. She’s been through generations. My sister, myself and my mom could listen to Chaka. I admire that. She’s gone through ups and downs. It shows again, just being brave and getting through your obstacles will allow you to continue to progress and prosper.”

Chris Brown Sentenced to One Month in Jail

Chris BrownGetty Images

When Chris Brown headed to jail on Friday (March 14) after being kicked out of rehab, he probably didn’t think he’d be staying too long. However, a Los Angeles judge squashed any chance of freedom when Brown’s bid for release was rejected. The troubled singer is now ordered to stay in jail until April 23.

So what did Brown do to land himself in jail? According to TMZ, he violated three rules, one of which was specifically tailored for him. And that was to stay at least two feet away from any woman in the rehab facility. The other two violations involve an unauthorized outing as well as mocking therapy in the middle of a session.

But sources say that he was likely thrown out due to a sexual encounter that he had a with a female at rehab in the beginning of the month.

So once he was kicked out of rehab, Brown, whose sixth studio album, ‘X,’ arrives May 5, was immediately arrested. During Brown’s hearing on Monday (March 17), the judge said he has an “inability to stay out of trouble.” And now he’s behind bars.

The crooner is also on trial for the criminal assault charge that happened in Washington, D.C., last October. The trial will take place on April 17, but it is still unsure if Brow will actually be called into court for that date.

A month in jail is a long time for someone who continues to get in trouble wherever he goes. Let’s see if Chris Brown will be a free man by the time his new album arrives.

Ashanti Performs 'I Got It' With Live Band [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

Don’t mistake Ashanti‘s confidence for cockiness. “I ain’t saying that I’m bragging, babe / I just like to celebrate my accolades,” she sings on ‘I Got It,’ a song featured on her fifth studio album, ‘BraveHeart.’ The New York native’s storied career has earned her chart-topping hits, appearances in films and on television and a plethora of awards and nominations. Celebrating her triumphs is warranted.

The singer, dressed in all-black, shares her refreshing vocals with a live version of the song for The Boombox’s Off the Record series. While Rick Ross appears on the track, Ashanti shines solo. She throws a playful smile here, and sways her hips to the beat there. Whether it’s performing for 200 people or two, her performance is dynamic. “I love being in an intimate setting. I feel like it’s more personable. It’s more organic,” Ashanti tells The Boombox.

“I remember being in a studio with my band and we just started vibing on ‘Rain on Me’ and I kind of just went into this whole freestyle and kind of put that in the show now. It just came from everyone just playing, the track was over, and the band just continued to play and I was just up there vibing. Those kind of things come from being organic and comfortable I think that calls for a better experience. If there’s 200 people in a room versus 100,000, it’s different energy.”

Chief Keef Busted for DUI Only Days After Leaving Rehab (@chiefkeef)

Chief Keef was arrested on suspicion of DUI less than two weeks after leaving rehab for marijuana, TMZ reports.

According to law enforcement, the rapper was pulled over in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park early on March 5th for expired tags on his Jeep Cherokee. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers noticed a strong odor of weed, and Keef reportedly admitted to toking up before getting behind the wheel.

The rapper underwent and failed a field sobriety test. He was taken into custody, and along with a DUI he was charged with driving on a suspended license and cited for having no proof of insurance.

Chief Keef was released a short time later after posting $300 bail.

It would seem the "Hate Being Sober" spitter has no plans to change his weed smoking ways. Just 3 days after his arrest, Keef posted a pic of himself smoking up on Instagram.

Pleasure P Talks Love, Pretty Ricky, and 'Break Up to Makeup' [EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

Pleasure PPleasure P

Marcus Cooper, a.k.a. Pleasure P, is turning down these days. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter has no desire to sing on big bass-heavy rap records, a trend in mainstream R&B, he says is “frustrating” and “wack.” Instead, P is serving “authentic” sounds of the genre with his latest mixtape ‘Break Up to Make Up.’

On Feb. 26, days after dropping the Valentine’s Day project, he stands mesmerized by the wide windows of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel’s lobby lounge. A few stories above the hustle and bustle of midtown Manhattan, it offers a rare sight over a snow-coated Central Park and surrounding buildings. He captures the brochure-worthy scene with his cell phone camera and orders mimosas.

“Let’s have a toast because you have to do the interview right,” he tells The Boombox. P cheers to the future before opening up on why the current state of R&B needs to stand for love again and the blueprint for his return to the game.

“I’ve done this for a living already so it’s like, we did that already. Now it’s about — I do it for the love of it and that’s it. I feel like the game needs me. R&B sounds like … a lot of people listen to A&Rs and everybody tryna keep up with rappers,” he concludes. “Now it’s just turn up, drugs, pop molly, pop champagne, floss about cars and stuff that people really don’t have.”

P is inching his way back into the minds of music listeners. Back in 2009, he released his debut album ‘The Introduction of Marcus Cooper,’ a successful effort that spawned his biggest hit ‘Boyfriend #2’ and three Grammy nominations. But after controversy surrounding charges of alleged child molestation, which he called “100-percent false,” he went under the radar. Since then, he’s been traveling internationally through Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica and other countries, promoting his reggae records.

In an effort to return to his R&B roots, Cooper teamed up with a friend and supporter DJ Clue for ‘Break Up to Make Up.’ “I was like you haven’t put out a mixtape in sometime. Let’s do something great,” P explains of his conversation with the mixtape king. The project is a collection of past unreleased material. “So we kind of wanted to put some R&B back into these streets and give people hope again. Give people that whole I’m in love type of vibe. And I ain’t too rich or too swagged out to say that I’m sorry.”

Cooper is not afraid to lead by example as he pens his deepest feelings of longing for his ex-girlfriend on the track ‘Letter to My Ex.’ He sings, “I wish I could see where we went wrong/’Cause the love that we had was so strong.” Cooper knows that everyone does not have the words to approach their relationship problems. He wants his songwriting to fill in those blanks.

Watch Pleasure P’s ‘Letter to My Ex’

“We all need somebody to speak for us and sometimes songs speak to people when you’re just laying in the bed and you might hear my song and you say, ‘You know I was really f—ed up to that girl. You know let me go make that right.’” He continues later, “I just want to take it back to the whole era of treating ladies right and not degrading women.”

Cooper has matured since breaking into the industry as a member of the R&B group Pretty Ricky. Their hit ‘Grind With Me’ will turn 10 next year. “It’s classic music. Of course I’m not attached to that brand anymore.” He went solo in 2007, but he has had no communication with former members in recent times. “We don’t speak. We don’t have nothing to talk about but the past. I’m busy focused on the future,” he proclaims.

At 29, he wants to use his fame as a platform. Artists such as Tupac, Jay Z and Kanye West have inspired him to use his interviews to speak about reality. “Kanye West inspires me because he teaches us to speak out. I have never taken the approach of speaking out and just showing people what it really is. So in my interviews I always try to do the same thing and I base it upon love.”

In the future, the crooner is not in a rush to drop new material. He is playing it by ear and waiting to see the people’s reaction to his music. “I’m basing it on the people. But I’m not going to waste anybody’s money to promote it and put it out and it’d be a bad thing for everybody. I’ll wait.”

Down the line, he envisions R&B singers reclaiming their place in music by coming together, instead of needing five rappers on a song “to make” them hot. “No you’re hot because you’re hot,” he says. “You’re hot because you do R&B and its classic and it’s timeless music. We should work together. We should tour together. We should embrace each other. We should embrace our culture and that’s what I want to see more of.”

It is clear Cooper is on to something bigger than himself.

School Upset After Rapper Is Named 'Principal Of The Day' (@MAADMOISELLE)

Teachers at New York High School are angry with administration after a female rapper was invited to be 'Principal Of The Day.'

According to The New York Post, administrators at Murry Bergtraum H.S. for Business Careers chose a rapper MAAD*MOISELLE to tour the school and talk to teens for their annual 'Principal for the Day' event. Her video 'Killa' featuring A$AP Ferg struck a nerve with officials, who fear that she wouldn't be a good influence on the students.

"I am gravely worried as to what effect such individuals as Maad*Moiselle may do to our school image," Nicholas Weber said. The Social Studies teacher noted that the femcee's explicit language and objectification of men was "the most deplorable." Weber, like many teachers were hoping that a member of the Financial Women's Association would be a better role model for the event.

Students on the other hand, were happy to see the rapper and posed for pictures.

Do you think this was a bad move on the administration?

The finger that launched a million dollar lawsuit. When M.I.A. flipped the bird during the 2012 Super Bowl, she probably had no idea of the financial and legal repercussions her gesture would bring. The NFL is now demanding $16.6 million from the singer for her ‘Give Me All Your Luvin” performance alongside Nicki Minaj and Madonna.

The Hollywood Reporter shares that the NFL first pursued a $1.5 million arbitration against M.I.A. for “breaching her performance contract and tarnishing its goodwill and reputation.” This new $15.1 million suit is “restitution” based on what advertisers could have paid for ads during the time M.I.A. was on-screen. “The claim for restitution lacks any basis in law, fact, or logic,” say M.I.A.’s response papers, filed on Friday (March 14).

The outspoken performer took to Twitter to air out her anger over the new charges.
