Janelle Monae + More Perform Funky Jam Session at 2014 NBA All-Star Game

We all know that Janelle Monae is a helluva performer onstage. So it goes without saying that the R&B singer electrified the 2014 NBA All-Star Game with a fantastic performance Sunday (Feb. 16) at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

Backed by NOLA artists Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Monae was phenomenal and displayed great showmanship. Dressed in an all-white ensemble with a matching varsity jacket and black boots, the singer shimmied and moonwalked effortlessly onstage during her performance.

Then it was Earth, Wind & Fire’s turn. The venerable soul-funk band ended the set with their indelible hit ‘Shining Star.’ With Monae, Shorty and Orleans Avenue performing alongside the group it soon became a joyous jam session.

Before Monae and EWF’s performance, New Orleans jazz legend Dr. John and recent Grammy-winning guitarist Gary Clark Jr. treated audiences with their bluesy renditions of ‘Iko, Iko’ and ‘Bright Lights, Big City,’ respectively.

“We love music, we love funk, we love soul, we love to jam,” Monae told Billboard prior to their performance on Sunday.

Jam they did.

Twitter reactions to the halftime show was unanimous — the Electric Lady and EWF’s blew the roof off the mother-sucka! Check out some of the tweets below:

Childish Gambino Says Hook To '3005' Was Almost On 'Trophies' (@DonaldGlover @Drake)

Childish Gambino recently chatted with BBC's Zane Lowe to talk about his Deep Web Tour, his latest album and how the hook to his hit "3005" almost ended up on Drake's "Trophies."

When praised for his concept album Because The Internet, Gambino says that he wanted to make an album that people would experience as a hold, rather than hit singles.

"If you build a world people come to it," he says. He also mentions that he doesn't know how to make hits like his single "3005."

"That was the last song we did on the album...we all liked it but then we fell out of love with it and then I added some verses. Hit Boy was in the studio and he heard me sing the hook and he was like 'that's a good hook, you should put that on something." It was then that he was given the "Trophies beat but decided to pass on it.

"He gave me that Trophies beat, and I sang the hook [to 3005] over the [build up] and then I was like I don't know if that feels right, and then he gave it to Drake and then Drake made it awesome." Both artists ended up with hits, so he believes everyone won.

"Everyone's a winner, we made a different song and it was great."

Do you think he made the right move?

The Web Reacts To Cassidy's Remix To "Lookin Ass Ni***s" (@CASSIDY_LARSINY)

Cassidy's remix to Nicki's "Lookin Ass Niggas," has the web spinning.

The remix "Lookin Ass Bitches" is just as rough as Nicki's directed at girls who dance for Vine, Instagram, and stunt harder than guys.

He admits that guys can be just as bad as women when it comes to playing the honesty card, but women have tricks up their sleeve as well.

Check out the remix and some of the reactions above.

Pharrell Williams, Diddy + More Perform at 2014 NBA All-Star Game

Pharrell Williams (and his hat!) rocked the 2014 NBA All-Star Game with a medley of hits on Sunday (Feb. 16) in New Orleans. The multi-talented producer wasn’t alone as he brought along Nelly, Diddy, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg to jam with him.

Skateboard P kicked off his performance with his own single, ‘Frontin’,’ before he was interrupted by Nelly who performed his chart-topping 2002 hit ‘Hot in Herre.’

Then veteran rappers Diddy and Busta Rhymes joined the party performing a rendition of ‘Pass the Rock This Way,’ which is a basketball-themed remix of their 2002 hit single, ‘Pass the Courvoisier, Part II.’ Please take note of Diddy and Bussa-Buss’ old-school dance moves as it brought plenty of slander their way via Twitter.

After the Eastern Conference All-Stars introductions, Williams returned to perform two of the most-played songs in 2013 — ‘Blurred Lines’ and ‘Get Lucky.’ That was followed by an appearance from Snoop Dogg for a quick verse of their summertime anthem ‘Beautiful.’ Pharrell also reunited with Chad Hugo, the other half of N.E.R.D., to perform ‘Rockstar.’

Williams finished his set with a performance of his Oscar-nominated single, ‘Happy,’ which also featured an appearance of his infamous hat — this time in an all-red color. Skateboard P and the gang all came together onstage to sing and dance to the cheery single from the ‘Despicable Me 2′ soundtrack.

Fans who watched the performance were happy with what they saw. See what we did there? Check out the tweets below:

Kanye West Defends Drake Against Rolling Stone in New Rant

Another day, another Kanye West rant. After spewing vitriol at Sway Colloway and Charlamagne Tha God, Yeezy took aim at journalists and corporate America during his tirade at a concert stop in Newark, N.J., Saturday night (Feb. 15).

During his 11-minute rant, West went on the attack against critics who tried to stop his ingenuity. He took a brief moment to defend Drake’s criticism of Rolling Stone magazine and warned journalists to stop pitting rappers against each other or else.

“They always be trying to pit n—-s against each other and that ain’t going down no more,” he yelled. “So tonight it ain’t none of that, we love Drake, we love every motherf—er that put their heart into this motherf—ing music.”

He then added, “We gonna go after motherf—ers writing that negativity. Before they print s— like that, they need to check with me and him to see if it’s okay before they get ran up in they motherf—ing office. It only costs $250 [thousand] to beat your a–.”

Of course, that last line was in reference to a financial settlement he reached with a teen he allegedly beat up at a chiropractor’s office last month.

Elsewhere, West talked about the Air Yeezy 2 “Red October” sneakers selling out in 11 minutes. He also threw shots at Nike executives who are probably are tired of his rants by now. “You can’t stop my voice, you can’t stop my voice, he sang repeatedly via Auto-Tune.

In one hilarious diatribe, West also took aim at Apple CEO Tim Cook and his popular iTunes festival.

“Hey Tim Cook, the head of Apple, stop trying to get performers to play your festival for free, you are rich as f—, you are rich as f—,” he sings.

Despite his bitter criticism of journalists and corporate America, West did add that he’s quite happy with his life right now. Really? Go figure.

7-Year-Old Attempts Suicide After Being Bullied By Her Teacher

The parents of a 7-year-old girl in California are taking legal action against their school district after their daughter left school to escape her bully-her own teacher.

According to the Daily Mail, 2nd grader Samaya Dillard would tell her parents that her teacher disliked her and felt that she was being bullied by her. Because of over crowding at Jefferson Elementary, the child was forced to stay in the class.

It was then that things took a turn for the worst. In Decemeber 2013, Samaya was dragged out of class by her teacher after she accidentally spilled a cup of water in class. Left in the hallway alone, the little girl left the school and wandered for miles across a highway. She previously told her mother she 'didn't want to live anymore' after being bullied by her teacher.

Her parents didn't find out she was missing for hours. After driving around town, they found the child wandering in a neighborhood with just a sweater on in 40 degree weather. Dillards have a filed claim with the Natomas Unified School District for unspecified damages to their daughter, her older sisters, and themselves.

There isn't word on the status on her teacher, Lupe Rodriguez, but the school did release a statement on the case.

"We cannot comment on the claim's allegations or the parties involved because it is a pending legal matter, and because it involves a minor and a personnel issue. We can only say that we care deeply about all children in Natomas unified and we are firmly committed to the safety of our students."

Young Thug Signs Record Deal with Cash Money Records

Since dropping his gritty street bangers ‘Stoner’ and ‘Danny Glover,’ Young Thug has been courted by a few rap labels including Future’s Freebandz imprint. However, it appears that the Atlanta rhymer has signed with one of the biggest rap empires in hip-hop.

According to Mass Appeal, Young Thug has all but confirmed that he’s now an artist on Birdman’s Cash Money Records.

While attending the festivities at NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, YT was asked if he signed with the storied label.

“Yeah. I signed,” he told Mass Appeal journalist Brian Padilla.

Young Thug went on his Facebook page to confirm his alliance with YMCMB. He posted:

Also, if you look at Birdman’s Instagram page, they are several photos of Young Thug getting cozy with the CEO and hanging out with his fellow labelmates. So it’s plausible that a deal has been finalized but the ink hasn’t dried as of yet.

If the news is true, signing with Cash Money Records sounds like a logical choice for the bubbling artist. Since Nicki Minaj bodied his ‘Danny Glover‘ track, could we see YT and Queen Barbz on a song together?

In the meantime, Young Thug is currently on a promotional tour in support of his latest mixtape ‘Black Portland.’ He’s also catching some slander on his Instagram page for his, uh, unique fashion sense and questionable photos.

The Canadian singer rewrites all the verses and alters the productions to give the song a more intoxicating feel. On the tune, the Weeknd is in a drunken state of mind as he tells a future bedroom prospect that he’s only looking for a one-night stand.

“Don’t take my number / I don’t want your number / I’ll call you back if that head right, baby / I won’t love you, I can’t love you / Unless that p—- got some superpowers / I want you (nah, nah) / I’m not trying to f— tomorrow baby, I want you (nah, nah),” he croons.
