Locksmith Tells Tale of Unique Encounter in 'F—in' Idols' Video

Locksmith recently asked fans what track from ‘A Thousand Cuts’ they’d like to see him make a music video for and ‘F—in’ Idols’ was the resounding top pick. In less than 48 hours, the Bay Area rapper unveiled the effort and the results are quite good. The stark visuals keep the focus on Locksmith and the object of his affection. But as the story unfolds, images of the external thoughts rapidly appear on screen.

The track is an example of Locksmith’s excellent storytelling as he details an unusual situation he found himself in while on tour. Listeners hear how the rhymer falls into a potential hook-up that quickly goes wrong when he realizes who the woman is.

“I thought I was out her clutches ’til I found I was tryna wet this / Gonna mount that amount to a mountain, how she steps out of her husband / How she checks out when she’s f—ing / How she’s in doubt when she’s suffering / How they just had a child, so the money and house is nothing / But it’s funny how spouse is someone that I feel that I seen somewhere / But I can’t put my finger on it / She says put your finger here / I know it’s misleading, dear / But I can’t have that wrong on me / Then I looked at that face again, it finally dawned on me,” he raps.

His lyrics then detail the realization that the woman in front of him is someone he’s all too familiar with. “Ain’t you the wife of that ballplayer with tall paper / Who retired from playing, but as a child was my wallpaper / But he moved to the Midwest and got the house with the large acres / Came from endorsements to making money in all fazes / And facing her I can see, when I speak that she’s bored and idle / She needs some attention to hide like f—ing a formal rival / Maybe a foreigner for her tell her she’s thinking I bull / But I can’t be the n—- to f— the wife of his former idol.”

Locksmith’s ‘A Thousand Cuts’ is in stores now.

Nike Roshe Run NM – Charm Yellow / Electric Green – Volt

Rock City Kicks

Gloomy days don’t have to be echoed in your wardrobe and this Nike Roshe Run NM colorway is proof that you too can be a bit of sunshine for someone.

This is one intense pair of shoes that toggles charm yellow, electric green and volt for an upper that is one of the most DayGlo things that we’ve seen in a while. The colors are woven into a sort of tribal print pattern that covers the entire upper and the outsole is given a split between volt and off white which only makes the other colors seem more brilliant.

This great new colorway of the Nike Roshe Run NM signals summers arrival and its popping up now at select Nike retailers. Rock City Kicks has them on shelves for $95 and surely they’d be willing to ship a pair your way if you wanted.

Luke James Enlists Rick Ross for Emotional Song 'Options'

Luke James OptionsIsland Records

After dropping his 2012 mixtape ‘Whispers in the Dark,’ Luke James returns with his first offering from his upcoming project, ‘Made to Love.’ On Tuesday (June 3), the singer-songwriter dropped an emotionally-driven single called ‘Options,’ which features a guest verse from Rick Ross.

The song opens with a downing piano groove before it explodes into a thundering trap beat as James sings of a volatile relationship that has run its course.

“So far gone, I’m barely breathing / She’s holding on guess she’s got her reasons / It’s really hard to see what we have become / And that’s why I’m leaving,” he sings. “So please forgive me / ‘Cause I never wanted to hurt my daughter / But on the real…you hurt me more than I ever could.”

Meanwhile, Rozay raps about a self-determined woman who likes to swing from the “shower rod” and boasts about running the city.

“Untouchable my clique is / Money long as my d— is / Shorty handle her business / She’s the realist / Hundred stacks in Bel Air / Black bottle, black male / You looking at who’s running the city,” he raps.

Luke James is currently working on his ‘Made to Love’ album, which has no release date as of yet. As for his single, Kelly Rowland gives it a thumbs up.

Chuck D Says Hot 97's Summer Jam Is a Cultural Crime on Hip Hop (@MrChuckD)

With acts from all over the country, Hot 97's Summer Jam concert catered to almost every kind of Hip Hop fan -- but not Chuck D.

Despite acts like Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and 50 Cent taking the stage, the rapper wasn't impressed.

The legendary emcee and author took to Twitter on Sunday to share his thoughts on the show.

"The look on my face after I heard what a sloppy fiasco @hot97 in NYC has made of HipHop. #culturalCrime" he tweeted.

The rapper commended Funkmaster Flex for his contribution to the hip hop station, but still says that Hot 97 has damaged the culture.

"The USAers have successfully widened the GAP between USA & Africa back to the 80s again. Using fakery to reverse what HipHop did after WATW."

Usher Remains Mum on Justin Bieber's Racist Joke (@usher)

R&B superstar Usher is credited by many as Justin Bieber's main mentor in the biz. No doubt fans want to hear his take on the recent controversy surrounding the inappropriate and racist joke Bieber told 5 years ago leaking out to the public. According to the above video however, Usher ain't got time for that.

TMZ tracked down the singer in LA and asked him about the hot button topic and instead of defending Bieber like Floyd Mayweather, or condemning the young star, he jetted off to his truck with nothing to say.

Ameriie Returns With New Single 'What I Want'

After a five-year hiatus, Ameriie is back with a slight change to her name (notice the two i’s) and a brand new single called ‘What I Want.’

The funky track samples the classic breakbeat ‘Apache‘ by the Incredible Bongo Band, which the Sugarhill Gang famously sampled as well.

On the song, Ameriie tells her future beau to stop chasing other girls because she has the love and affection he needs.

“Let me be the one and only / That’s what I want, that’s what I want / You don’t have to look no further,” she sings on the chorus.

The last time we heard from Ameriie was in 2009, when she released her fourth album, ‘In Love and War.’ Since then, the 34-year-old singer married her longtime manager, Lenny Nicholson, in 2011.

The songstress is currently working on her next project and is scheduled to perform a few shows in the U.K. this weekend.

“So happy to share new music with you,” she wrote to her fans on Instagram.

Sam Smith and Mary J. Blige Join Forces in 'Stay With Me' Video

Sam Smith may be a burgeoning artist, but he’s already made a fan out of Mary J. Blige. The two recently joined forces to record a new version of Smith’s single, ‘Stay With Me.’

The song delves into a one night stand and what happens when feelings begin to develop after the hook up. Like Blige, Smith has been known to release emotionally honest ballads. On this song, he has a way of bringing the listener back to a moment of unrequited love.

Smith and Blige coming together on the track makes for an even powerful listening experience, which is just as heartbreaking as the original he released in March. Not only do their voices blend well together, the singers wear their hearts on their sleeves while belting it out on those high notes.

This isn’t the first time that Smith and Blige have gotten together. The two were special guest performers alongside U.K. electronic duo Disclosure during their show at New York’s Terminal 5 in January. While we’re not sure when they actually started working together, they both had nothing but kind words for each other.

“I’m so honored to have had the chance to work with Sam Smith,” Blige said in a statement. “Sam’s true soulful voice… is the first of this kind I have heard since Luther Vandross, Freddie Jackson and all the great soulful male voices from the ‘80s. I’m completely blown away by his talent, soul and the sincerity.”

Meanwhile, Smith calls his studio session with Blige one of his biggest highlights thus far. “I remember holding her album in my hands in the car when I was a young boy, to meet your idols is a magical thing, but to work with them is truly a dream come true,” he revealed.

Dee-1 Details How It All Started at a 'Drake Concert'

Dee-1Photo by OneNine

As Dee-1‘s ascent in the rap game continues, the New Orleans rapper isn’t afraid to reflect on his humble beginnings and uphill battle to make it in the music industry. He does this yet again on the Kelvin Brown-produced track ‘Drake Concert,’ as he describes two widely different experiences at past Drake shows.

In the opening verse, Dee-1 paints the picture of a night where he was hustling his mixtapes and posters outside of a Drake show in Baton Rouge without much luck.

“Standing outside of the Varsity on Highland Road / Just leaving this Drake concert, I’m bout to rock ‘n’ roll / Got my card, table and my mixtapes / Had my posters and I posted till the people exit / I’m available for pictures and autographs and interviews / ‘Man nobody worried bout you or your mixtapes!’ / OK, I got some haters / But once they listen to this tape, I bet they thank me later,” he raps.

Dee-1 then takes listeners to another Drake concert in New Orleans, this time where he served as the opening act. Dee-1 explains how the show motivated him and inspired him to figure out the key to success. Five years later, we fast forward to Dee-1 experiencing success himself.

This track will likely be featured on Dee-1′s upcoming mixtape, ‘Good Luck With That,’ due out later this summer.

Michael Jackson vs. Nicki Minaj — The Boombox Battle

Michael Jackson Nicki MinajThe Boombox

The King of Pop continues his reign by dominating The Boombox Battle against Chris Brown last week. Michael Jackson’s ‘Love Never Felt So Good’ took 67.51 percent of the voite, leaving CB’s ‘Loyal,’ featuring Lil Wayne and Tyga, with only 32.49 percent.

Written by MJ and legendary pop singer-songwriter Paul Anka, ‘Love Never Felt So Good’ was record in 1983, but received a bit of a refresher with the addition of Justin Timberlake. The song, which delves into the beginnings of a romance and finding that special someone, is the lead single from MJ’s posthumous album, ‘Xscape.’

“Baby, love never felt so good / And I’d die if it ever could / Not like you hold me, hold me… Oh baby, love never felt so fine / And I’d die if it’s ever mine / Not like you’ve hold me, hold me,” Jackson croons.

Nicki Minaj competes against MJ this week with her latest single, ‘Pills N Potions.’ Similar to her stripped-down look, the rapper goes for the same idea on this song, which will be featured on her upcoming LP, ‘The Pink Print.’

Produced by Dr. Luke, Nicki teams up with ‘Pitch Perfect’ star and songwriter Ester Dean to pen a track about a sticking it out in a failed relationship. Relying on minimal slow beats and light strings and keys, Nicki shows a softer side by switching up her usual hard raps and goes for a delicate voice on the hook — something we haven’t seen too much of since her 2010 duet with Drake, ‘Moment For Life.’

“Pills and potions, we’re overdosing / I’m angry but I still love you,” she sings on the hook.

Who will win this week? Will Michael Jackson glide by with his happily in love track and take the third consecutive win? Or will Nicki Minaj’s ethereal bittersweet song woo everyone to vote for her? You’ll be able to vote for your favorite once per hour until the polls shut down on Tues., June 10, at 10AM ET.

George Jung, Inspiration for 'Blow' Released From Prison

George Jung, known to many as "Boston George," was released from prison on Monday afternoon.

According to Heavy, the former drug kingpin served almost 20 years behind bars for smuggling drugs such as marijuana and cocaine into the country from Columbia. George was responsible for 85% of the country's cocaine in the early 1970s.

The now 71-year-old was the inspiration behind the cult classic 'Blow' starring Johnny Depp. The actor visited George in prison and the two became friends.

Jung was reportedly supposed to be released in November, but got out early. In a documentary for PBS, Jung mentions that he was given less time after he shared information with the feds about his partner Carlos Lehder.

"Well, the reason I made that decision is that Carlos Lehder had come to the end of his rope too," he said. "He was captured in Colombia by the DEA, brought to the United States, and I was approached to testify against him and I told them no, I had no inclination to do that. And then several weeks later it came out in the "Miami Herald" that he had written a letter to the Vice President of the United States, George Bush, offering to cooperate fully for total immunity. I just felt that that was the final slap in the face and I picked up the phone and I agreed to go to Jacksonville, Florida. I made a phone call and I was taken up to Jacksonville and interviewed. My story was checked out and I simply became a witness."

Jung will be staying at a half-way house on the West Coast while he readjusts to society.

K Camp Talks 2 Chainz Feature, Origins of 'Cut Her Off' and More

Interscope Records

K Camp isn’t one for false modesty. In his eyes his recent success on the hip-hop charts is long overdue. Since his he made his debut in 2010 debut ‘April 27, 1990 — A Star Is Born,’ he knew this day would come.

Recently, The Boombox had a chance to speak with the Atlanta native about his significant — and seemingly overnight — climb to the upper echelon of newbie rappers and he hesitated — but only for a second. “I knew I was gon’ pop sooner or later,” he tells The Boombox. “But, I seen the s— coming. I ain’t gon’ lie, I seen it coming, but the way it’s coming in is crazy. I’m blessed, I work hard and everything is seeming to fall into place perfectly.”

The 24-year-old went from being a relatively unknown artist to having 2 Chainz as a feature on one of his biggest hits to date, the deliciously flippant ‘Cut Her Off.’ The track is based on one particularly disappointing evening.

The night ‘Cut Her Off’ was recorded, Camp was set to see a certain young lady who had a boyfriend. He’d just purchased some Lime-A-Ritas from a neighborhood gas station when she flaked on him. “Folks be thinking [‘Cut Her Off’ is based on] the craziest story but it was really just one of those nights where things ain’t play out too well,” he admits with a chuckle. “She was flexin’ with that ‘meow’ so I cut her off. That’s it. And made a song about it.”

With his previous track, 2013’s ‘Money Baby’ still fresh on our minds, it was essentially a no-brainer for Tity Two Necklace to co-sign the young star by hopping on the official version of ‘Cut Her Off.’ “DJ Teknique set that up,” he shares. “He called me and said that he’s proud of our campaign. He knows how long I’ve been working. Next thing I know, I had that verse emailed to me that next day and we ran with it.”

After having bubbled under the surface for close to a year, K Camp watched and worked diligently as the national demand for his music came to a boil. Within 30 days of ‘Cut Her Off’ dropping, the rapper released his latest project ‘In Due Time’ and basked in the glow of signing to Interscope only a couple months later. Inking with that particular label had been a life-long dream primarily because of its longstanding legacy in hip-hop.

Then there are the perks — the X-rated exploits on Miami balconies with pretty girls and birthday celebrations in the Dominican Republic. When it’s brought to his attention that the brashness of ‘Cut Her Off’ is potentially conflicting with his demeanor, a sort of sticky-sweet Southern hospitality, he plays coy. “People think I’m mean?” he ponders aloud. “I can be, you know what I’m saying? But it depends on whether or not I rock with you or not. You on my good side. then we’re cool.”

There’s a lot more for K Camp to do as the ball continues to roll and even more stars hop onboard.‘In Due Time’ was hosted by DJ Drama. His team started pushing the Wale-assisted ‘Off the Floor’ in April. Still, the young spitter isn’t close to meeting his mark. “I don’t even know when that’ll be,” he shares. “When I get with [Lil] Wayne or Andre 3000, then I can be like ‘Okay.’ But shouts to everybody that I’ve worked with. I rock with their campaigns.”

In addition to setting himself up for success, there’s an entire team he runs with — The Slumlords — that has supported him from the start and K Camp is determined to bring them along for the ride. “We always have a plan,” he divulges. “That’s why things have been happening like this — we just plan months ahead. The next goal is to kill the summer and we’re already in the process of doing that. Then we can venture off and do other things that’ll bring new income to the squad.”

It’s not just talk — the rapper genuinely supports his team. Most recently, Slumlord member and close friend Sy Ari Da Kid dropped his ‘Ultrasound 2 — The Birth’ mixtape and K Camp was spotted kicking it at the listening party at a small club on Atlanta’s northside. “It’s so important to me to be a team player,” he says. “Since I was a kid, that’s been my dog and we have great chemistry in the studio. Anybody I f— with personally, I want them to win.”

The desire to strive for higher ground isn’t lost on K Camp as his accolades grow — even if he’s primarily respected for his club records. He’s more than that, songs like ‘Blessing’ from the latest project, show a deeper side to the rapper than expected. “With ‘In Due Time,’ I wanna be known for the ‘Damn Right’s and the ‘Think About It’s,” he says. “The club is cool. The club is easy because I’ve been doing it for so long and I’m always in clubs so I always know what’s going on but I don’t wanna be known as no club artist. I wanna be known as a dope artist period.”

Rihanna Goes Nude in Sheer, Glittering Gown at 2014 CFDA Awards [PHOTOS]

RihannaDimitrios Kambouris, Getty Images

It wasn’t too surprising when the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced that Rihanna would be the recipient of the 2014 CFDA Fashion Icon Award. To show her gratitude for the honor, the ‘Pour It Up’ singer graced the red carpet with one of her most couture (and shocking) style choices yet on Monday evening (June 2) in New York.

The pop star was the center of attention wearing a custom-made Adam Selman sheer floor-length gown. The dress was covered in 216,000 Swarovski crystals and Rihanna chose to wear beige feather boa around her arms as an accessory. The shocking part of the outfit, which didn’t leave much to the imagination, was the fact that her breasts and butt were on full display.

RiRi also wore a matching mesh-like kerchief to give the overall look an old Hollywood glamour meets roaring ’20s feel. With the confidence that she carries time and time again, only someone like the Bajan beauty could pull it off.

Rihanna wasn’t only at the ceremony to show off her assets and fashion-forward style but also to accept the award, which she received from Vouge’s longtime editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

“Growing up I didn’t have a lot of access to fashion,” she said during her speech. “But as far as I could remember, fashion has always been my defense mechanism. Even as a child I remember thinking, “She can beat me, but she cannot beat my outfit.” And to this day I mean, that is how I think about it. I can compensate for all my weaknesses with my fashion.

“And so really, you really can … I enjoy the most that you can tell so much about who someone is just by their style — the way they put fashion together. And I think fashion has been an outlet for me to express myself, to speak up, to say who I am and to be very loud about it at times, and I just like to have fun with it. Fashion is just a world of thrills, it’s exciting, there’s no rules, there’s just … I mean, she has tons of rules [gestures at Anna Wintour, audience laughs] … Scratch that! Scratch that! There are rules. But rules are meant to be broken.”

She also thanked MAC “for keeping my face so cute” and all the stylists who helped her get to where she is on the style map, especially Mel Outtenberg.

“You get me,” she said. “You honestly get me, and you understand what I’m trying to say. I can send you two pictures, and you bring back the rack full of exactly what I wanted. There’s nothing better than that because fashion should never be frustrating. It should be fun! Make it easy to me.”
