Pharrell Williams Hits the Stage at Rain-Soaked Made In America Festival 2014 [VIDEO]

After torrential rains and lighting halted the Budweiser Made in America festival for a couple of hours on Sunday (Aug. 31), Pharrell Williams brought sunshine to the Philadelphia event with his set of upbeat hits.

The hitmaker, donning a red bandana and matching Bee Line x Timberland boots, had the crowd dancing in puddles to buoyant tracks like ‘Lose Yourself to Dance,’ ‘Come and Get It Bae’ and ‘Flirtin’.’

According to Philly.com, Skateboard P took a moment to honored the Philadelphia musicians and producers who helped developed the Philly soul sound.

“The best musicians in the word come from Philadelphia,” he said. “From Philadelphia International Records all the way up to the Roots to everyone in the band up here tonight, they all have Philly ties.”

Williams closed his show with a rendition of his ubiquitous hit ‘Happy.’ On a day that left many concertgoers soggy and wet, P was able to bring some sunshine to the rain-soaked festival.

Curren$y Debuts 'Saturday Night Car Tunes' EP

CurrensyDatPiff It’s been over six months since Curren$y released a project, but all that changed over the weekend as he blessed us with a new on-the-whim EP called ‘Saturday Night Car Tunes.’

At seven tracks long, it’s more suited to a quick cruise in the car than an hour-plus haul, but the project packs some punch with appearances from Wiz Khalifa (‘Dojo’), and Birdman and Gunplay (’10 G’s Remix’). Spitta even manages to lure out Rich Boy from obscurity to throw some D’s on the cut, ‘Night Like This.’

Labor Day Weekend may be almost over, but you’ve still got time to burn away copious amounts of that sticky icky and listen to Curren$y’s new effort.

Meanwhile, Curren$y went on Twitter to thank the people who were involved in putting his project together. He tweeted:

Nipsey Hussle Performs at Made In America 2014 in Los Angeles, Issues Statement on Arrest

Despite his arrest a day prior to his show, Nipsey Hussle performed as scheduled at the Los Angeles edition of the Budweiser Made in America festival on Sunday (Aug. 31).

On Saturday (Aug. 30), the ‘Crenshaw’ rhymer was taken into custody during a police raid at a clothing store that he owns. Apparently, Hussle was allegedly interfering with officers as they were arresting a parole violator.

LAPD Lt. Julius Guay said the rapper was “booked on charges of obstructing an investigation.”

Hussle posted $13,000 bond and was released on his own recognizance. His management team also issued a statement regarding the arrest:

“Around midnight last night Nipsey Hussle was detained in an unsolicited random police probe near the flagship Marathon Clothing Store on Crenshaw Blvd. Police detained him and several other patrons while picking up food at a local restaurant. He was released Saturday morning with no charge. He will be performing live on the Made In America festival as scheduled on Sunday. Nipsey feels like his detainment was unjust and without cause.”

At the show, Hussle was dressed in all-white including a Versace dress shirt, which he later removed, and gold chains. He made no mentioned of his arrest during his set.

Other artists who graced the Made In America concert stage included Rita Ora, Chance the Rapper and DJ Steve Aoki.

Kanye West closed out the two-day festival with an energetic performance of a similar set that he performed in Philadelphia the night before.

As usual with his stage shows, Yeezy went on another rant explaining why he makes music for the public and not for the critics.

“I’m not out here trying to hurt nobody, I’m out here trying to make this motherfucking music and be creative,” he told the crowd (quotes courtesy of Complex). “I’m not going to allow anybody to come up and try to hurt me, not physically, not verbally, and not perception-wise. They got a voice, and I got a voice, too.”

Sneakerness Paris x Puma XT2 'Parisian Lights'

Highsnobiety

Sneaker conventions are all the rage these days and it’s not just an American phenomena. The international sneaker convention known as Sneakerness is set to descend on Paris later in September and in honor of the momentous occasion the ‘City of Lights’ is lighting up a pair of new Puma sneakers.

The chosen colorway for the collaboration is pretty sinister as it plays black grain leather against composition notebook feeling panels on the heel and toe. 3M accents make this one special as well while things get a bit more colorful along the insole that sports a Parisian flag stamped with the year as well.

Only 150 pairs were made of the Puma XT2 ‘Parisian Lights,’ which are being release over the course of two days — Sept 6 and 7. The only way to get a pair is to be in attendance at the Sneakerness event. However, if you are out that way can you pick some up for us? Thanks in advance.

Ludacris Gives Back to Atlanta with 9th Annual LudaDay Weekend

Ludacris kicked off his 9th annual LudaDay Weekend in Atlanta. The festivities, which started last Thursday (Aug. 28), are specifically to benefit the rapper’s hometown and led by his Ludacris Foundation.

LudaDay Weekend lasted four days starting with a celebrity bowling event at the Bowlmor Lanes in Atlanta. Some of the A-List celebrities in attendance included Keshia Knight Pulliam, Angela Simmons, Big KRIT, Dwight Howard and a number of music executives.

On the next day, the Ludacris Foundation invited media and DJ personalities to Frank Ski’s Restaurant & Lounge in appreciation of their support through the years.

On Saturday (Aug. 30), Ludacris returned to his alma mater Georgia State University and presented a free block party that was open to the public while catering to the younger students on campus. Mike WILL Made It served as host and his Making Wishes Matter Foundation was at the forefront of the event. The producer and head of Eardrumma Records gave some shine to a magnetic kiddie trio called D Squared.

“Bring them up here,” he said, pointing into the crowd at the three teen girls, dressed in brightly matching colors. “Y’all come onstage, this is what Making Wishes Matter is all about.”

Upstarts like Rochelle Hot 16, Scotty ATL and Translee also shared the stage with rappers Two-9 and Rae Sremmurd before the event was shut down for unknown reasons.

On Sunday (Aug. 31), LudaDay participants reconvened at Georgia State University’s Sports Arena for the celebrity basketball game. Ludacris’ Team DTP went head-to-head with the Young Money Cash Money Billionaire squad. A number of ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ cast members were in attendance, from Stevie J and Joseline Hernandez to Rasheeda and her husband Kirk Frost.

Rappers Roscoe Dash, Trinidad James and Lou Williams of the Toronto Raptors were amongst a number of celebrities, artists, and professional NBA players on the court that day. While it was all in good fun, Houston Rockets b-baller Dwight Howard wowed the crowd by putting down quite a few dunks and wrestling the ball away from Gloria Govan of ‘Basketball Wives: LA’ — more than once.

In the end, Ludacris’ team was victorious and the proceeds all went to charity. “I do this every year to give back to the community,” he said.

“When I say ‘give back,’ we’re really specific and detailed in what we do and we try and make an impact to do it bigger and better every year,” Luda continued. “We always have fun. Almost at ten years… We’ll be going full throttle by next year.”

Beyonce, dressed in a black crop top that exposes her toned belly, flashes a wide smile as her hubby whispers something into her ear. The couple were seen holding hands and slowing dancing to the beat.

Jay Z is the founder of the two-day festival, which took place in Los Angeles and Philadelphia on Saturday and Sunday.

Last week, the couple appeared onstage together at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. Hov and daughter Blue Ivy presented Queen Bey with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
