Fresh off an appearance at the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards as part of the annual cyphers, Dee-1 unleashes a new song, ‘Against Us,’ the first single off his forthcoming EP, due out in early 2015.

While many rappers feel they must dumb it down when they sign to a major label, Dee-1 has shown that won’t be the case for him during his tenure at RCA Records. The New Orleans, La., MC calls his latest track “a game-changing anthem that the world needs right now” and says that “it symbolizes the war against negativity.” The Rico Beats-produced record sees Dee-1 being as direct as possible.

“I love everybody, I don’t like most of ‘em / Why, the main ones you gotta watch be close to ya / Black people, we tore up from the floor up / Backstabbing, conniving and plotting, we need to grow up / Every rapper talking ’bout taking somebody girl / Everything on TV oversexualized, man I really hate this world / Black people robbing black people, black people killing more black people, these are facts people / Looking at my own people wondering if they plotting / Smile so bright, heart so rotten / Pick you apart like cotton / We new slaves hanging ourselves minus the noose / Oops, I’m signed, but still spitting the truth,” Dee-1 raps.

‘Against Us’ can be purchased now on iTunes.
