Kelis‘ new album, ‘Food,’ debuted yesterday (April 22), and to celebrate, the singer dropped by ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’ to provide some musical nourishment with her latest single, ‘Jerk Ribs.’
Complete with a brass section, Kelis’ funky R&B track is one that you can easily groove to — just look at those standing behind her. Moving away from the sexy club banger vibe of songs like ‘Milkshake’ and ‘Bossy,’ ‘Jerk Ribs’ shows her more mature and soulful side. And if you didn’t think Kelis pays homage to the past, her shiny high-waist, flared out slacks and Diana Ross-like coif might be a good indication she does.
While some people are getting used to this food-themed direction in Kelis’ music, one can’t deny that this is one hell of a good track. It’s pretty obvious that Letterman is a fan. “That’s all!” he raved at the end of the performance. “That’s all you want. Take a bow. My god! How about that! Oh, delightful.”
Starting in May, Kelis will be heading to Europe for a number of dates before playing a full-length tour around the U.S. in June.
