It’s a beautiful thing when hip-hop and television collide. Game of Thrones, HBO’s uber-popular medieval drama, returns next month to a flat screen, plasma or laptop monitor near you and to drum up the anticipation — as if it need any more — the people behind the series have unleashed the first leak from the Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2 mixtape in the form of the new Talib Kweli record, “Lord of the Light.”
The song catches Kweli dropping a slew of nods to characters and pivotal moments in the Game of Thrones series that die-hard fans of the show will especially enjoy. “I am a huge fan of Game of Thrones and I feel honored that HBO asked me to be involved at this level. I really nerded out on this song and there’s a Game of Thrones reference in just about every line,” Kweli stated.
The full mixtape, which serves as the second installment to the original with Wale and Common, will include 15 songs and feature appearances from the likes of Snoop Dogg and Method Man as well as a mix of artists from various genres.
Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2 will be released for free this month. Also be sure to tune into the premier of season five, which will air on April 12 on HBO.
