When the hip-hop community learned Kanye West would be among the awards recipients at the 2015 BET Honors, no one thought Damon Dash would be the one to present him with the trophy for the Visionary Award. But there the legendary mogul was, in the flesh and speaking kind words about his former protege.
Bringing his daughter along with him onstage, he was classic Dame Dash, cracking witty jokes and being his usual confident self. But the notoriously brash Roc-A-Fella co-founder was extremely gracious in his praise of Yeezy. “It’s always been his courage, he’s always been brave,” Dame said of West. He went on to say that the rapper was done in his book when he learned he had a serious car crash, reminiscing on West’s determination to emerge from the situation on top.
Dame also joked about Kanye’s success being weird considering he helped the MC get to where he is today but is no longer receiving any money with him as a result. The only thing missing from this moment was Jay Z. We can’t always get exactly what we want, but this unexpected reunion will do.
