Rapper Vince Staples is one of the most-buzzed about artist from the Left Coast not named Kendrick Lamar. As he prepares to release his second project, ‘Shyne Coldchain, Vol. 2.,’ the Long Beach, Calif., native just released a reflective track called ‘Nate.’
Produced by studio wizard Scoop DeVille, the booming yet soulful tune features the Odd Future affiliate talking about his hard-nosed father and his eventful childhood growing up in the LBC.
“As a kid all I wanted was to kill a man / Be like my daddy’s friend hoping out that mini-van / Chrome .38 spinning like a ceiling fan / Crying on my mama’s phone / Swearing he’s a different man,” he raps. He later adds, “But my daddy was the man … pick me up for visitation in the newest ride / Always told me that he loved me / f— his foolish pride.”
In addition to the song, Staples unveiled the tracklist to ‘Shyne Cold Chain, Vol. 2.’ The collection boast an impressive list of producers. Certified trackmasters No I.D., Evidence & DJ Babu and Scoop DeVille makes this a must-hear mixtape.
