Now that Lil Wayne has slapped Birdman and Cash Money Records with a $51 million lawsuit, it looks like Tha Carter V album will never see the light of day. Both parties have been mum about the legal case until now. Lil Tunechi opens up about the lawsuit with Rolling Stone magazine.
In the interview, Weezy didn’t have much to say about the lawsuit. “I have no words,” he tells the magazine. “I’m super-numb to it, to tell you the truth.”
The Young Money leader admits that his legal fight against Birdman has taken its toll on him. “I’m human. But it’s nothing that a good blunt can’t cure,” he said. Wayne is no longer on speaking terms with Birdman either.
Legal matters aside, Wayne said Tha Carter V is absolutely done and he would have released the album yesterday, but for him, it’s a project that is old news. “It’s a jewel in the safe. It’s that stash-house money,” he says of the project.
For now, though, the “Believe Me” rhymer is working on a new project called The Free Weezy Album . “I’m working on it every day, man,” he says. “I guarantee it’s going to be something dope.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Wayne reflects on his announcement last year that he would be retiring from the rap game. The 32-year-old rapper has thought about it but says he’s not ready to hang up the mic just yet. “For a person like me that bleeds, eats, sleeps and s—s music, it’s hard to do,” he said.
Weezy also talked about today’s hip-hop generation and how they use technology to get their music heard. “When I was starting, you couldn’t do that type of s—. But that’s wonderful — the game is wide open, and my job is just to stay vital.”
