Rapper Common and John Legend performed their inspirational song “Glory” at 87th annual Academy Awards on Sunday night (Feb. 22). The collaborative tune is from the Oprah Winfrey-produced film, Selma, which is up for two awards: Best Original Song and Best Picture.
The dynamic duo gave a powerful rendition of “Glory” standing in front of replica of the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge where the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights march began. Common and Legend were also flanked by the people who symbolically walked across it.
Legend did a phenomenal job singing the powerful lyric and pride seeped through Common’s performance of the song.
The pair’s performance was so enthralling that it touched multiple members of the audience. Actor David Oyelowo, who played Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, was seen with tears streaming down his face.
In more glorious news, “Glory” won the Oscar for Best Original Song a few moments after Common and Legend performed.
