Rick Ross is certainly in boss mode right now. The Miami rapper just released his new video for ‘Keep Doin That’ with R. Kelly and is preparing his new ‘Hood Billionaire’ album. The Maybach Music Group honcho talked with Power 105′s ‘The Breakfast Club’ about his new project, his recent weight loss and the future of MMG.
The conversation started with talk about his weight loss. Ross said that he’s on a new exercise regime to keep him him very fit.
“I’ve been working out. I’ve been on that Ross Fit program,” he quips. “It was something that, maybe a year and a half ago, Reebok had introduced me to. I just kept doing my thing, and I done dropped a few of them [pounds]. Ross Fit, you’re just turning up. You’re just going hard. I just completed my first four-mile walk/jog.”
The discussion then segued into his latest single ‘Keep Doin’ That (Rich Chick)’ with R. Kelly. Rozay wanted to work with Kels because of his enormous talent.
“I’m a fan of the music, the writing skills [and] the creativity,” he said. “R. Kelly has flawlessly brought us dope records. That’s just speaking on the homie, previous. This record we just did was most definitely a dope record, a feel-good record, something the chicks are gonna be able to turn up to and let the bosses lean on the wall a little bit and shine for you.”
When asked why he’s dropping two albums in one year Ross said it “was just something that I wanted to do.”
“That’s how bosses do it, ya heard me? That cake so stacked up we ain’t even gotta do that,” he stated. “If you go back and listen to my [past] interviews speaking on ‘Mastermind’ I was saying I felt like I made two albums because it was two different feelings.”
‘Mastermind’ was the type of album that I wanted to open up. I wanted it to have a rich feel to it,” he continued. “And ['Hood Billionaire'], this my Geechi Liberace. This a gold ring on every finger. We holding the bottles in the sky letting the champagne run down our arm. So, it’s just that feel good record. A lot of 808s, real bass heavy. And it’s gon’ feel different to you. So, it’s gonna feel like a full year from the boss.”
Ross then dropped some exciting news by revealing that a collaborative track with Jay Z will appear on ‘Hood Billionaire.’ “This is for the streets. We feedin’ the streets. It’s gonna be most definitely heavy,” he stated.
Ross also talked about his MMG empire and his team of spitters — Stalley, Wale and Meek Mill. When Wale and Mill had their beef on Twitter, the Bawse said he stepped in to diffuse the situation.
“They didn’t go through nothing really. Two, three minutes later, we always on the phone, and it was a whole ‘nother situation,” he recalled. “We always just laugh and move forward. This the family, this the team. It ain’t nothin’ but love.”
Other topics Ross discussed in the interview include Stalley’s upcoming album ‘Ohio,’ which is set to drop on Oct. 27, Meek Mill’s incarceration, his Atlanta mansion and more.
