Fall is officially here and while the cold weather is right around the corner, your favorite rappers and singers are heating things up in October with new releases.
Oct. 28 can potentially be the biggest hip-hop release date in some time. Run the Jewels‘ second album is an example. The duo’s debut efficiently mixed lyrical aggression and El-P’s trademark dystopian production to thrilling effect — like a rush of blood to the head. After dropping two singles, hip-hop’s most loveable bad guys deliver their new project this month.
Then there’s Lil Wayne‘s ‘Tha Carter V.’ The hitmaker crafted one of his best songs in years over the summer with the Drake-assisted ‘Believe Me.’ ‘Grindin,’ its follow-up, didn’t quite catch on and the Young Money leader has been mum on the status of the album in recent weeks. It’s entirely possible that the Oct. 28 date might not stick, but at least Stalley‘s long-awaited debut, ‘Ohio,’ will arrive that day.
And while we await those LPs, the month kicked off with a promising start. Flying Lotus‘ ‘You’re Dead!,’ which features a time-stopping verse from Kendrick Lamar on ‘Never Catch Me,’ debuted to near universal acclaim. Tinashe showcases her vocal strength on ‘Aquarius’, and although Bishop Nehru and MF DOOM didn’t get as much praise as the other two, it’s still a highly anticipated project here for your listening pleasure.
