Ab-Soul Gets Spiritual For New Album Cover, Drops Song Trailer

Ab-Soul- 'These Days' CoverYouTube After releasing projects from ScHoolboy Q and SZA, Top Dawg Entertainment is ready to release Ab-Soul‘s third album, ‘These Days.’

And there’s no doubt that the California rhymer is ready to get things popping too, because he just released the cover art and release date for the project, which is set to drop on June 24.

For the artwork, the 27-year-old artist sits in front of a cross, dressed as Jesus, with blood all over his torso and a crown of thorns on his head. Of course, Ab-Soul isn’t the first rapper to use crucifixion imagery.

Both Nas and Kanye West have done it before but for a new generation of rap fans the cover may contain just the right amount of controversy to sell a lot of units.

Ab-Soul also released a trailer for the song ‘Stigmata,’ featuring Action Bronson and Asaad, that shows the lyricist walking through a desert in full Jesus crucifixion garb, which matches the song’s hook.

“I carry the cross / If Virgin Mary had an abortion I’d still be carried in the chariot by stampeding horses / I’m more than a man / I’ve been died and rose again / Left these holes in my hands / So you know who I am,” he raps.

It’ll be interesting to hear and see what else the TDE spitter has to say on his upcoming project ‘These Days.’

It looks like Ab- Soul will definitely have people talking, and hopefully for him, it will correlate into album sales.

Study Shows Meek Mill's Lyrics Are Influential On Black Teens (@MeekMill)

A new study from the American Psychology Association shows that Meek Mill's influence on low-income African American teens is bigger than anyone would have imagined.

The study conducted by Cendrine Robinson, MS, shows that songs like "Traumatized" and "Intro" have a connection to hip hop therapy, a method that shows how Hip Hop music can be a therapeutic tool to some youths.

After talking to her clients about their favorite artists, Robinson listened to Chief Keef and Meek Mill.

Robinson concluded in the study that many teens listened t Meek Mill because of his stories of pain and loss while growing up a dangerous area. The study also proved that the teens connect to Meek's sadness because of the harsh realities of each of his songs.

"Mill, like other youth, likely finds telling his story to be therapeutic," she said. "Telling his story through music allows him to grapple with his stressors in a way that is positive. Most current psychological interventions for youth fail to acknowledge the power of using rap music to help heal our youth. Hip hop therapy is one of few treatments that incorporate an approach that is truly sensitive to the culture of many Black youth."

Leaked Video Shows V. Stiviano Mocking Black People

Donald Sterling's mistress V. Stiviano, has her fair share of choice words for black people.

In a video obtained by TMZ, the 31-year-old is seen making racist comments towards black people. The video above shows two outtakes from a failed reality TV show about golddiggers from 2011.

In the first video, Stiviano says that black people use their money to buy materialistic items like rims for their cars.

"I don't understand black people," she said. "The minute you give them a little bit of money, they don't know what to do with it. They're like, 'Yo, I wanna put extra rims on top of my rims. And my rims are gonna turn around. I'm gonna call them spinners.'"

Stivinao, who is black and of Mexican descent is also seen playing with an elmo doll saying "We don't like back people."

The model caught the attention of the country last month when she recorded her former lover Donald Sterling making racist comments about black people. The owner of the LA Clippers was banned from the league and ordered to pay a $2.5 million fine.

Stivano has kept a somewhat low profile since their conversation leaked to the web.

Suppa x Kangaroos Coil R1

Suppa

Any sneakerhead worth their salt has owned a pair of Kangaroos as a kid. While the pocket-featured kicks hasn’t fallen off, they have been low key in the sneaker community. The Kangaroos Coil R1 have been around for years but this collaborative model from sneaker retailer Suppa should grab your attention.

The two companies have come together to create a silhouette that feels handcrafted with its rich full grain black leather and tan accents on the lining and tongue tag. The tan colorway spills over to the outsole while the gum sole folds into the look very smoothly. The ‘Suppa’ logo is stamped on the tongue to signal that they are the ones who jazzed up this pair of ‘Roos.

Suppa‘s website has these fly kicks listed as ‘Coming Soon’ with no release date or price confirmation.

We do know that a leather tote bag (sold separately) accompanies the release. Unfortunately, the shoes are only available at Suppa’s Germany store and they are sold out already.

So for now, enjoy the photos below.

'The Arsenio Hall Show' Canceled After One Season

Arsenio HallYouTube

Sad news in the late-night television world. ‘The Arsenio Hall Show’ has been pulled off the air for the second time in twenty years.

The news may be surprising to some, since back in February when Jay Leno appeared on the show, he told Hall that it would be renewed for a second season. Obviously, that bit of information was premature. CBS Television, which distributes the program, said it no longer made financial sense to keep it on the air.

“While there are many loyal fans of the show, the series did not grow its audience enough to continue,” said the network in a statement. “The audience, in total and among young adults, was about the same as for ‘Bethenny,’ Bethenny Frankel’s daytime show, cancelled earlier after one season. And Katie Couric’s show is also ending this year, despite a generally improved ratings for daytime.”

In typical Hall fashion he decided to use humor to deal with the bad news. “I lost my job, and The Clippers, in a 48 hour period,” he tweeted.

The cancellation of ‘The Arsenio Hall’ show is especially bad for urban music fans, because the the 58-year-old comedian brought a slew of rappers and R&B singers on as guests.

Among the performers who appeared on the show include Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ice Cube, Rick Ross, Kelly Rowland, T-Pain, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, among many others.

So there might be a void for urban acts on late-night television, although the ‘Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ and the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Show’ do a commendable job of featuring hip-hop and R&B acts on their programs.

In the end, Hall will probably bounce back from this with a new show or project. Meanwhile, the veteran TV host seems to take the cancelation of his show in stride.

“I’m gratified for the year we’ve had and proud of the show we created,” he said.

Chance the Rapper Covers 'Arthur' Theme Song [VIDEO]

Chance the Rapper rocked audiences with a fantastic cover of the ‘Arthur’ theme song at the Sasquatch! Music Festival over the Memorial Day Weekend.

Not to be confused with ‘Arthur’s Theme‘ by Christopher Cross, the Chicago rapper performed Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers’ theme song from the popular PBS children’ show. The cartoon series, about an anthropomorphic aardvark named Arthur Read, is one of the longest-running kids programs on PBS next to ‘Sesame Street.’

Chance, along with his band The Social Experiment, turned the beloved children’s tune into a bombastic anthem about peace and love. At one point during his rendition, he invoked the Washington crowd to chant, “every day it could be wonderful.”

We hope that Chance will record a studio version of Ziggy Marley’s song for his next studio project.

Overall, it was a wonderful kind of day for Chance the Rapper at the Sasquatch! Music Festival.

Eminem Raises Over $17,000 For Detroit-Based Charity

EminemLarry Busacca, Getty Images

He may be Shady, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t generous.

According to MLive, Eminem just raised $17,353 for HOPE, a Detroit-based charity that helps families and senior citizens with food, education, and general assistance programs.

The ’8 Mile’ rapper used eBay to raise the funds and put up 10 different items for people to bid on, including his limited-edition G-Shock watch and tickets to Em and Rihanna’s sold-out Monster Tour. The bidding concluded on Thursday (May 29) and 100 percent of the proceeds went to HOPE.

This certainly isn’t the first time the ‘Rap God’ has used his star power to give back. Last December, Em matched $100,000 in donations raised for Detroit’s Wolverine Human Services. Kristen McCurry, one of the organization’s coordinators, said the money will go a long way.

“We are very excited and we are overwhelmed by the generosity from Eminem, The Marshall Mathers Foundation, and people around the world” said McCurry last year. “We know we are going to be able to do a lot of good for our kids.”

The HOPE organization hasn’t announced how they will utilize the funds, but it’s safe to say the organizers are happy with Eminem’s level of altruism.

According to the NBC Los Angeles, Beverly Hills Police were called to the hotel after the singer allegedly grabbed a woman's behind. The singer was calm during his encounter with the police at first, but when he was asked to leave the hotel, the singer went off and started insulting the police officers.

Police arrested the singer for trespassing, private person's arrest, vandalism on a police car, resisting arrest, and battery on a police officer. Police also deemed his encounter with the woman at the hotel as "incidental."

The singer paid his $20,000 bond and had little to say to the cameras after his arrest.

Nike Lebron 11 Low 'Dunkman' – Sneaker Of The Week

Ubiq

We may have had a shorter work week due to Memorial Day Weekend but that didn’t slow down the selection of sneakers that hit stores this past week. After scouring the Internet, the pair that finally caught our eyes are the Nike Lebron 11 Low “Dunkman.”

For the 11th sneaker in Lebron James’ Dunkman series, the shoe lives up to that electric Dunkman colorway by toggling Dark Khaki against Volt accents. The color can be seen lining the shoe as well as splattered along the upper. The real indicator of the theme pops up on the tongue as an image of Bron Bron soaring to the hoop.

The The Nike Lebron 11 Low “Dunkman” are in stores now and retails for $170, which means if you want a pair you better hurry! There’s still some pairs available at their online store.

'The Arsenio Hall Show' Canceled After One Season (@ArsenioHall)

Arsenio Hall's late night return has been cut short.

According to the Los Angeles Times, CBS has canceled the show just after announcing that the late night talk show would be picked up for a second season. Arsenio's first late night run lasted from 1989 to 1994 with memorable guests like Tupac Shakur and Bill Clinton. Low ratings were to blame for the show's second cancellation.

On Friday, Hall released a statement following the news.

"When I started this adventure with CTD and Tribute, we all knew it would be a challenge," he said. "I'm gratified for the year we've had and proud of the show we created. I'd like to thank everyone on my staff for rallying around me and striving to make the best show possible each night."

Hall featured many hip hop talents on his show, including Wale, Kanye West, Tyler The Creator and Kid Cudi.

Jagged Edge Returns With New Single 'Hope'

Jagged Edge HopeAudiomack After a three-year hiatus, Jagged Edge returns with a tender ballad called ‘Hope.’ J.E. members Brian and Brandon Casey wrote the song, while producer Bryan Michael Cox provides the elegant piano-driven beat.

On the ballad, the Casey brothers promises love and commitment to their respective lovers.

“I hope she don’t just see a thug when she sees me / I hope she sees all of this love that I’m filled with / All I want to do is come up with this little plan, to put hope back into this man,” they croon.

The song should remind fans of their previous hit ballads like ‘Let’s Get Married’ and ‘Promise.’

‘Hero’ is the lead single from Jagged Edge’s upcoming album ‘J.E. Heartbreak Too,’ the sequel to their 2000 album, ‘J.E. Heartbreak.’ The project will be executive produced by veteran hitmaker Jermaine Dupri.

“Making a sequel to a classic album is difficult,” Dupri said in a statement. “We don’t want to stray from the blueprint of the first album. It’s definitely a challenge, but the fans won’t be disappointed.”

‘J.E. Heartbreak Too’ is expected to arrive in stores this fall.

50 Cent Responds To Young Buck Reunion Invite (@50Cent)

50 Cent still believes that his former G-Unit members aren't ready for a reunion.

In an interview with the Breakfast Club, the rapper talked about his Animal Ambition album, beef between Mayweather and T.I, and why he's not interested in Young Buck's invite for a reunion.

In a freestyle over Nicki Minaj's "Yass Bish" Buck raps about his interest in a G-Unit reunion with 50 Cent.

"I thought you was ruined/What the f*** have you been doing?/Somebody go tell 50 go get Buck we need a reunion," he raps on the track. 50 says he enjoyed the success the group endured but he believes that the group has ran its course.

"I heard it [the remix]. We had a lot of good times together," he said. " All of us [did]. You can say I enabled them a little bit because there was so much momentum at that point. It was like, I'm selling 13 million records and then 10 million records, the album after. It [the momentum] immediately makes them do three million records. It's just money all over the place from the performances, the shows and everything else that's going on."

He also says he tried helping out Buck in the past but it didn't go well.

"When we actually had that conversation, it's because I had already over-extended myself giving him [Young Buck] a quarter-million dollars. It's about $250M and he's calling me about the taxes at that point. I'm like, this is not going to end, it's just getting worse and worse."

Migos, Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug, Jermaine Dupri Rep ATL on 'New Atlanta'

It’s a huge honor when a respected veteran producer from your city asks you to remake one of his song as a way to officially pass the torch.

That’s exactly what producer Jermaine Dupri did when he tapped Migos for ‘New Atlanta,’ a remake of his 2002 hometown anthem ‘Welcome To Atlanta.’ The song also features fellow ATL comrades Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan.

Lyrically, everyone stays true to the game plan of letting people know what the Atlanta lifestyle is like for the current generation of hip-hoppers.

“I had the desire we startin’ empires Givenchy attire / I’m trappin’ they think I live in ‘The Wire’ / I had to flood out my new Audemars drop in the ghost / Scaring n—-s like Michael Myers / F—ing your bitch, pass her around like a flyer / All the little kids lookin’ at me admired,” raps Migos’ Offset, over a beat that uses the piano riff from the original version.

And besides maybe Future, Rich Home Quan is arguably the best person to sing an anthemic hook for the Dirty South. Plus, Dupri throws in a little rant that really brings the cut home.

“Motherf—ers hatin’ and s— / Motherf—ers still movin’ out here and s— / It’s still love in this motherf—er / And n—-s think this s— gonna stop / It ain’t never gonna stop,” yells the So So Def founder.

Producer Murda creates keyboard driven backing music for the vocalists to go in over, and all of them do a fine job of making the song sound uncluttered, which is not an easy feat considering there’s bunch of rapper swapping verses.

Let us know what you think of the song in the comments below.

Damon Dash Talks Jay Z + Solange Fight, Disses Steve Stoute

Former rap mogul Damon Dash clearly isn’t the quiet type, and doesn’t have a problem speaking his mind. During his interview with Hip-Hop Motivation, the Harlem native talked about everything from his past accomplishments, to Steve Stoute, to the infamous Jay Z and Solange elevator fight.

“I was laughing. The s— was funny,” he said. “I wouldn’t of handled it like that, but I just thought it was funny, cause, you know, Jay is the kind of guy that you don’t see him move like that. And when he does move, if ain’t that cool looking, then it’s going to be kicks.”

Dash also said he’s angry by the lack of unity among certain black business people. The Roc-a-Fella Records co-founder revealed that he tried many times to work with other music moguls to make a unified pact but to no avail.

In addition, he threw some verbal darts at former record executive Steve Stoute by calling him a “culture robber.”

“Black people never help each other. We never stick together,” Dash theorized. “We are the most retarded culture in the world for that. For some reason when black people get something, they think they can’t share with other black people, because that other black person is going to take it from them.”

“[Steve Stoute], he always break us up so he can bring us to get robbed,” he continued. “A guy like Steve Stoute will always take the people that are protecting the creative, and eliminate them so he can rob the creative. Just so he can get his money.”

Dash also said Stoute watered down the public images of Jay Z and Mary J. Blige, and made lots of money doing it.

It’s evident that Dash has a lot on his mind these days, and one could even say there’s a tone of resentment in some of his views. To watch his entire interview session watch the clips below:

A New Dawn: Twitter Goes In on Dawn Richard's "New Face"

Danity Kane's Dawn Richard recently shared a new selfie looking just a little different than she did in her MTV "Making The Band" days. Comparing photos, her nose is clearly more slender and she may or may not have had other work done.

While surgery is a personal decision every individual has the right to make, when one is in the public eye, there tends to be backlash, and this time is no different. Many tweeters had nothing but positive things to say, feeling there's nothing wrong with a little "self improvement." Others felt the difference is so blatant that Richard could not have expected the world to not notice and comment.

Take a look at Twitter's reaction to Richard's "new face" above.

Pharrell Williams Curates His First Art Exhibit in Paris [PHOTO]

Pharrell Williams hangs out with a lot of visual artists. So many that he put together an exhibit in Paris displaying all of their work called ‘G I R L’ and he’s thrilled to be curating it.

“I don’t have to have these opportunities, I don’t have to have this inspiration, and I don’t have to have the awareness that appreciation is like necessary,” Skateboard P told the Wall Street Journal. “But I’m glad that I do have those three things, so I express them repetitively.”

The exhibit, which was held last Monday (May 26), shows the work of Belgium’s Johan Creten, Japanese pop culture artist Takashi Murakami, and renown French street artist JR.

Williams says he’s become a devoted student of the art world. “It says ‘Curating by Pharrell Williams,’ but it should really be ‘The Education of Pharrell Williams,’” he states. “Because I’m just learning.”

The veteran producer’s love for the visual arts are well-documented, so it might surprise some that this is his first exhibit. The show has garnered some mixed reviews, however. Some European journalists have praised the artists’ works, while others believed it to be sexist.

All and all, the pieces looked dope and they have that Pharrell Williams-cool about them.
