Pharrell Williams Honored With Wax Statue at Madame Tussauds in New York

2014 was a very “Happy” year for Pharell Williams, but due to being on the wrong end of a lawsuit over his Robin Thicke collaboration, “Blurred Lines,” the artist has been off to a dismal 2015. While that may have put a damper on his hot streak, a bright spot occurred today (April 1) when he was honored in the form of a wax statue at Madame Tussauds in New York City.

“So our Pharrell figure that we just launched today features… our artists have replicated the famous look from the 2014 Grammy Awards, hich features the signature look of the mountain hat, which was donated by Vivienne Westwood. He’s also wearing the red leather jacket that he performed in at the Grammy’s. And he has jewelry featured that was designed by Damien Hirst,” stated Bret Pidgeon, TO Regional General Manager in charge of Madame Tussauds New York City and Washington D.C. locations.

There are few things as big as getting a wax statue made in your likeness, especially when it’s displayed at Madame Tussauds. Any run-of-the-mill artist doesn’t get that privilege and it’s usually reserved for entertainers of the highest caliber, which Pharrell is certainly regarded as in the world of hip-hop. Other artists that have are featured in the New York location are Alicia Keys and even the late, great Notorious B.I.G. Rihanna has been lucky enough to receive more than one wax figure.

If you’re ever in the New York City area and feel like taking a selfie with the man who made some of your favorite jams, you know exactly where to go to make that happen.

'Straight Outta Compton' Trailer and Movie Posters Released [VIDEO]

We are about four months away until the release of the most anticipated movie of the summer (at least for rap fans) hits theaters. The theatrical trailer for the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton has arrived and it gives us a preview of what we should expect from the film.

Actors Jason Mitchell (as Easy-E), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (as Ice Cube), Corey Hawkins (as Dr. Dre), Aldis Hodge (as MC Ren) and Neil Brown Jr. (as DJ Yella) all convincingly look and portray the World’s Most Dangerous Group to a tee. If you need further proof, just look at the character posters of the individual members, which were also released as well.

In the trailer, we see N.W.A deal with police harassment and poverty in their Compton neighborhood. From there, we get several glimpses of the iconic group’s rise to stardom behind the backdrop of the L.A. Riots.

Veteran actor Paul Giamatti plays the role of Jerry Heller, who managed N.W.A. and Eazy-E from the beginning of their careers. He tries to stop the police, who are obviously not fond of their music, from arresting the group in the clip.

“You cannot come down here and arrest my clients because of what they look like,” he yells, as the authorities handcuff them without probable cause.

Directed by F. Gary Gray, Straight Outta Compton arrives in theaters on Aug. 14. Watch the theatrical trailer above.

ILOVEMAKONNEN Quenches Your Thirst With 'Drink More Water 5′ Mixtape

2014 was a heck of a year for Atlanta rapper ILOVEMAKONNEN. He struck pay-dirt when his club-ready single, “Tuesday,” got a huge co-sign from Drake, who remixed the buzzworthy record, earning the pair a Grammy nomination. This essentially put the former hairdresser on the map. Now he’s looking to follow-up on that success with his latest release, Drink More Water 5.

Running 11 tracks deep, the project features appearances from Migos, Rich the Kid, Rome Fortune and Fredo Santana, among others. The tape also includes previously released songs such as the title track and “Super Clean” as well as new bangers “Whip It (Remix),” “No Ma’am,” and “Dodging 12 (Remix).” Staying in tune with the vibe that made him a radio favorite, Makonnen crafts a project full of catchy songs that are sonically pleasing to the ear.

While this tape should keep the OVO signee in the conversation and on various music playlists, Drink More Water 5 is only the appetizer. Makonnen says his album is on the way and should be released in summer 2015.

The “Don’t Sell Molly No More” rapper recently announced his upcoming Loudest of the Loud tour, which will feature a stateside run, as well as stops in Europe. The tour kicks off at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on April 28 and will include stops in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C.; Chicago and California, among other cities. So be sure to grab a ticket if he’s in your town.
