Nike Kyrie 1 Is Unveiled

Nike

Nike Basketball welcomes Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving into an elite circle of athletes with their very own signature shoe. With the release of the Nike Kyrie 1, the player becomes the 20th signature athlete to get his own shoe, which leaves one question: is it dope?

In a word, yes. The player’s first outing with the brand is a technology-laden bootie with a stripped-down feel to it. Form and function meet by way of the Zoom cushioning, which is housed in a raised pattern heel. This is all counter-inspired by the Sydney Opera House or a Hyperfuse upper that plays host to a handwritten No. 2 on the ankle. Irving’s “Just Be You” motto is also represented on the heel of its 360-degree dynamic traction outsole.

The multi-colored Nike Kyrie 1 ‘Dream’ drops on Dec. 23, followed by the Nike Kyrie 1 ‘Deceptive Red’ on Jan 10, 2015. Both pairs are set to retail at $110. As an extra bonus, you can see a short clip of what the Nike Basketball legacy means to Irving below.

Nicki Minaj Stars in 'Saturday Night Live' Promo with James Franco [VIDEO]

Who knew that actor James Franco and Nicki Minaj were best friends?

That’s what they called themselves in the new promo clip for ‘Saturday Night Live,’ as Franco will be the host and Queen Barb the musical guest.

In the short video, the stars do two different gags, and the first one surrounds the recent airing of NBC’s ‘Peter Pan Live.’ After introducing himself and the Queens N.Y. rapper, both artists spread their arms and say “Off to Never Never Land,” doing their best Peter Pan impression.

The second gag finds the ’127 Hours’ actor and Minaj doing a best friends handshake, which consists of a couple of hand slaps, a fist pound, and the rubbing of noses. Afterwards, Franco says “What a lot of people don’t know is that Nik and I are really good friends in real life,” and they scream the word ‘Besties,” which ends the clip.

You can catch the new episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’ this Saturday, Dec. 6., at 11:30 p.m.

The Muppets Perform Naughty By Nature's 'Hip-Hop Hooray' [VIDEO]

The Muppets love them some hip-hop. Just take a look at this video created by YouTube user Is This How You Go Viral.

In the short clip, old footage from ‘The Muppets Show,’ which aired during the ’70s and ’80s, is combined with Naughty By Nature‘s 1993 hit ‘Hip Hop Hooray.’

Kermit plays the part of Vin Rock and Fozzie Bear plays Treach, as each character’s mouth is edited to look like they’re actually rapping the lyrics of the classic tune.

Other beloved Muppets like Ms. Piggy and Beaker play the background, filling in the ad libs, making the video even funnier. Even late jazz great Lena Horne shows up, as footage of her appearance on the prime-time children’s show also made the cut.

The video creator also used the famed puppets to perform the Beastie Boys’ 1992 single ‘So What’cha Want,’ off their third studio album, ‘Check Your Head.’ Check it out below.

Pharrell Williams Receives Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Gives Inspiring Speech [VIDEO]

Pharrell Williams had no idea where his love of music would take him.

Between the release of his album, ‘G I R L,’ having the No. 1 song on the Billboard Charts longer than any other this year with ‘Happy,’ his judging role on ‘The Voice’ and being nominated for an Oscar, among other things, Pharrell has taken 2014 by storm. Due to his success as an artist, producer and innovator, he receives the honor of having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Right before accepting the award on Dec. 4, the honoree, who owns the 2,537th star, listened to a number of people speak of his achievements, including comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

“Pharrell is a genius, and I have been lucky enough to know Pharrell since he was a N.E.R.D.” she told the crowd. “And he’s grown into a superstar.”

She also cited some of his famous tracks with humor that got everyone, including Pharrell, chuckling, and read a poem inspired by his name. “His lyrics have inspired me and gotten me through some tough times,” she said with a straight face. “When the cops do get at me, I drop it like it’s hot. When I hear milkshakes bring it to the yard, that’s my story. That’s my life.”

Pharrell, a wordsmith who’s known not just for his lyrics but for giving some great speeches, didn’t disappoint. He gave props to his grandma, who bought him his first snare drum; his teachers, who he called “the folks that conspired to get me here;” and his longtime Neptunes collaborator, Chad Hugo. Skateboard P was extremely gracious and humbled for the honor.

“I just wanted the opportunity to create something that was good enough for people to hear on the radio, along with Chad Hugo,” he said during his speech.

After thanking a laundry list of people, he makes sure to tell everyone that the star is a great honor, but that it’s not the thing that defines him.

“Last but not least, today I’m being grounded, and it’s such an honor,” he said in closing. “But I don’t need this star as much as I love it and appreciate it and jump up and down on my bed to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with my wife later. But I don’t need to be grounded with this star to tell you why I’m really grounded. I’m really grounded because everyone around me is so much more better than I am, so much more talented than I am, so much more reliable than I am. They’re so good, they levitate. And when everyone around you levitates, you have no choice but to be grounded.”
