Texas Rapper Executed for Music Studio Killing (@tdcj)

In 1998, aspiring rapper Ray Jasper was accused and eventually convicted of stabbing and killing music studio owner David Alejandro during an attempted robbery for the studio's sound equipment. His two co-defendants were sentenced to life in prison while Jasper got the death penalty. He was executed by lethal injection on March 18th.

The night of the incident, Jasper and his two friends were recording in the studio, and about 2 hours into the session decided to rob Alejandro by knifepoint.

According to the AP, Jasper "slashed Alejandro's throat from ear to ear, but did not kill him." Jasper and the others continued to stab the studio owner until he died, covered him with a sheet, and proceeded to steal equipment worth between $10,000 and $30,000.

Upon prosecution, Jasper claimed that while he participated, it was one of his accomplices who dealt the final blows that ended Alejandro's life.

Clearly the jury did not go for it. According to The Grio, this was the 3rd execution in Texas in 2014, with five more scheduled for this year, including one next week.
