Watch Rare Footage of Kanye West Working on His Demo With Rhymefest [VIDEO]

Kanye West may be one of the biggest stars in the world, but he still came from the same humble origins that most up-and-coming artists do. As fans wait on the rapper’s much-anticipated new album, they now have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the man before the fame in a rare behind-the-scenes visuals titled ‘The High School Graduate.’

The videos, shot by Danny Joe Sorge, takes you back to 2002, as Kanye works on his demo alongside longtime collaborator Rhymefest. The two trade some stories and ‘Ye even shares his philosophy on music, detailing why he feels it’s OK to have someone sing atop a vocal sample. Viewers also get to see the modest setup Kanye had in New Jersey at the time — a stark contrast to the studios the Chicago native records in today.

The footage even includes a look at an early version of Kanye’s breakthrough single, ‘Jesus Walks,’ featuring a verse from Rhymefest. It’s a unique peek into Kanye’s mindset and recording process long before he became the huge act that he is today.
