Superstar, Mariah Carey, spills the beans to Billboard Magazine that her long-awaited 14th studio album might be a surprise release, much like Beyonce’s self-titled release.

It’s been a long road for Mariah Carey’s 14th studio album. It was titled then untitled, due for release, then delayed. It all started back in the summer of 2012 when the singer released ‘Triumphant,’ which floundered and kicked off the sequence of delays all the way to this year’s under-performing single, ‘You’re Mine (Eternal).’

As the subject of Billboard’s latest cover story, Mariah and manager, Jermaine Dupri, dish about the upcoming release. The most important detail is that the singer will be taking “a surprise approach to the project,” according to the magazine.

What that means is that it will be released at once for digital consumption and then available to retailers the week after. An approach that Frank Ocean and BeyoncĂ© took for their latest projects. The “surprise” route seems to be catching on as Kid Cudi and EDM producer, Skrillex, released their albums without any warning.

The story, that’ll be released Monday morning, also finds the pop star talking about collaborations, what to expect on the new album, and her return to television.
