50 Cent Receives Shout Out on Senate Floor During Minimum Wage Speech [VIDEO]

You know your name is bigger than hip-hop when folks in Washington D.C., start shouting you out.

That’s exactly what happened to 50 Cent as Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., mentioned his name during an impassioned speech about minimum wage Tuesday (April 29). And although she got his name right and avoided saying “Fitty Cent” (like a lot of folks outside of hip hop do), she wasn’t sure if the rapper was a solo artist or a band.

“Eighteen increases in the minimum wage since 1956,” she stated. “Suppose the other side had taken that attitude, ‘Don’t raise it.’ Well it would still be I guess a buck an hour, 50 cent if you’re a kid. Today 50 Cent is a singing group, right? Am I right about that?”

The error was incredibly adorable for some reason, and besides that, what Boxer was saying is true, because if it were up to some on the right side of the aisle, the minimum wage wouldn’t have shifted one bit in the past few decades. We wonder if the 50 Cent reference will make Republicans fight raising minimum wage even harder.
